"Eeek!" An extremely undignified and high-pitched sound of pain split the early-morning chatter of the marketplace as a large bipedal horse trod on Dania's left front paw. To add insult to injury, (literally), the heavily-built highlander gave his unintended victim a harsh look and an eye roll in place of an apology. The rat felt her already-tenuous mood turn sour. Of course, she knew that it was nothing personal. In fact, it was likely that her cry of pain was the only thing that brought her to his attention at all. It was quite possible that he never even noticed her delicate paw under his hoof, and was therefore feeling quite mystified and somewhat inconvenienced by the fact that a rat had just squealed and collapsed just in front of him. He stepped over her and kept going, followed along his way by only a few choice words muttered in the Torquehelm language and a dour glare as Dania laboriously got to her feet. "Hmmph."It was not going to be easy getting around on only two feet. She was far from surprised when none of the shoppers hurrying past paused to help her gather up the apples which had rolled out of her bag when she fell. She expected nothing different from these horrible, self-centered city-folk. The rat limped to a reasonably sheltered spot behind a potion-seller's stall and watched with a sort of resigned despondence as the last of her escaped apples got trampled to mush. She flexed her throbbing paw gingerly-- nothing broken, it seemed. That was a bit of luck, anyhow. Still, the crushed toes were swelling noticably, and as much as she would hate to admit it, she was a bit afraid to rejoin the increasingly noisy crowd. Dania's whiskers drooped and she whimpered, wishing fervently that she were back at home, where it was hushed and softly lit-- where it was safe, and people cared about her.

The Capital City or Corvistowne? Aima loved to play the question in her head, although Corvistowne almost always won. There was something about the Capital City, though, that interested her. It wasn't the clean looking houses and streets (at least compared to her home). It wasn't that the people looked interesting (for they were far more interesting back at Corvistowne). It was that the people just wanted to keep to themselves (or maybe just didn't want to bother with other people). She could go about doing anything she wanted and all she would get for it was a few weird looks and they would move on. Though apparently there are drawbacks, she thought, watching the bipedal horse step on the rat's paw. How rude, he should have at least asked to do that. The thought that he shouldn't have done it at all, even if he had asked, occurred to her as she noticed the rat's tail wrapped around her body. It already looked difficult to walk; an injured paw would make it worse. Aima decided to help her in some way, her own spirits being rather high it seemed compared to the rat's. She seemed to like apples, which baffled the martin. She never liked the things, the red color reminded her of her contamination. No matter, that didn't mean other people could not like the things. She could do something kind for the rat relating to apples. Buy her some new ones, perhaps? Or pick up the old ones smashed into the ground? Or she could just get her some ice for her paw. She fled for a few moments to find where she might have or buy some ice, and returned with a large bag of it that she had quite the trouble of lugging over to the rat. Though did it she would, and when she found herself in front of the injured creature she held it out and said, "I trust this is enough to help your paw?"

"Oh!" Dania was a bit baffled by the unexpectedly kind behavior of the Corvie, but also grateful. "Th-thank you." She accepted the ice shyly, wincing as the cold hit her paw. "Thank you very much."
Her whiskers perked up a little as she examined the bright blue pine martin. Corvistowneian colors were so very flashy, and like many of her realm, the Card had distinctly unnatural bits stuck on to her body in a rather haphazard-looking arrangement. The blood coursing thinly through tubes in the pine marten's back made Dania's stomach turn a little-- or maybe that was just the pain in her paw.
"I'm Dania." She remembered her manners after a few seconds, and felt ears grow warm as she realized how she had been staring. Quite rude of her, really. "You have a lovely coat, as well as a kind heart." Hopefully a bit of flattery would deflect from the fact that she had actually been staring at the odd mechanical bits that the female had probably inflicted on herself. The last thing Dania wanted was to be rude to the only person in the city who had shown her kindness in the last few confusing, overwhelming days. She smiled, tentatively, an expression that did not quite reach the melancholy depths of her purple eyes.

Confusion crossed over the pine marten's face. Kind heart? She couldn't recall if anyone had said such a thing to her before. Not that she wasn't kind, but most of her kind acts were usually propelled by an ulterior motive or the spur of the moment. They were also followed by unfortunate occurrences or side effects more often than not, though upon thinking of that she felt she must be safe in this act. What could go wrong with giving someone ice for an injury?
The marten smiled brightly, though, and was full of energy in her replied. "Thank you, and you look extremely soft." She was starting to think she had to come up with a way to remind herself to think her thoughts before she spoke them. "I'm Aima, doctor from Corvistowne, at your service!" Maybe, just maybe, she was looking for someone to help her run on less blood then she currently needed.
It seemed like a stretch, though, because no one ever wanted that except for her. How strange people were! But she enjoyed odd experiences and jobs, too. They often gave her ideas to advance her research. Or a way to help people, she thought, letting the compliment go to her head.

A matching confusion crossed the rat's pointed face, then a slow smile dawned. In fact, she was exceptionally soft, and she was oddly pleased that someone noticed, even if was an awkward thing to be told by a stranger. "Thank you." She said, rendered shy by the compliment.
"You're a doctor?" Dania was impressed. Doctors were educated, respectable, compassionate people, and the latter two were not usually words she heard applied to the eccentric denizens of Corvistowne. "No wonder you stopped to help me.", she said, gratefully. She held up her paw which was actually starting to feel better as the ice dulled the throbbing somewhat.
"Do you work in the city then?" As much as she worried about keeping a busy, important doctor from her work, the young rat was hesitant to have Amia leave so soon. It was a bit comforting to have an ally of sorts against the large and frightening world of the Capital City.
"I hope I'm not keeping you from anything important." She said, anxiously. "It really was very nice of you to stop and help. My paw is already starting to feel better." It still hurt, rather badly in fact, but it wasn't in Dania's nature to complain to a stranger, even if she did happen to be a doctor.

((How sweet, she seems to think Aima is a normal doctor. XD; ))
"You're not keeping me from anything important," Aima assured her, which was completely true. Her days were usually composed of both random and planned tests for her research and accepting odd jobs on the side.
"Well, currently I work here, but I do spend time in Corvistowne as well from time to time. It depends on where is more prosperous for my research." She smiled pleasantly, thinking about her research. There was so much yet for her to do. She was running only on 50% blood so far, and needed to run on 0%.
As a medical Corvie, she was deteremined to get rid of blood altogether. No more would you have to worry about internal bleeding, bleeding to death by wounds, and all the other hazards that came with it. That's why she knew the thinks she knew. If she didn't know treatments for a mass variety of injuries, infections, and fevers she probably would have killed herself by now.
That was also why she took the title of doctor.. because she just happened to know how to keep things people alive. And what was a doctor, after all, but someone who helped people with injury and disease?
"If you'd like, I can take a closer look at it," she offered with a smile. People so rarely let her help them.

"Oh, I'm glad." Dania replied, considerably relieved. It would be awful if someone truly sick was waiting for the doctor while she lingered here over a stepped-on paw.
"How nice." Dania almost asked the pine marten about her research topic, then remembered at the last moment how dangerous for one's sanity it could be to get a Corvie started on a rant. Most Corvistowneians could, and happily would, talk about thier pet project for hours, totally oblivious to the passage of time or the people's glazed-over expressions of thier listeners. "I'm just visiting the city, I live in Torquehelm, actually." This seemed like a much safer topic of conversation.
"Oh, would you? Thank you, doctor." Dania accepted the offer gladly, and gingerly stretched the swollen paw towards Amia. Even though she was pretty sure she would be fine in a day or two, it would be a relief to know for sure that no serious damage had been done. Since she had only three usable paws to begin with, it would not do to take any chances with them.

Aima carefully evaluated Dania's paw, making sure to be as gentle as possible when handling it. It wouldn't do to hurt her more. "Is it going numb at all?" she asked. There was swelling, but that was to be expected. The swelling didn't seem to severe, however, so the underlying tissue should be fine. She could see no blood, either on her hand or under her skin. Sadly, she knew that this wasn't from lack of blood as it was from it being a minor and not serious injury. Maybe if she'd been bleeding she would have been willing to have her blood removed all together.. then she wouldn't have so many problems to worry about when this sort of thing happened!
What was she thinking, mourning the fact that she wasn't more injured? She shifted her focus back onto her paw. The martin would have to say she got lucky. It could have certainly been worse.
"Certainly keep the ice on it, but if it still hurts enough we can find a sling or something we can use as one to raise your paw up for now above your heart. That'll take away some of the pressure, and with less pressure there'll be less pain."

"N-not really." She wiggled her fingers and winced again. "Maybe a little numb... just by my claws." The paw was certainly tender, and she was grateful for the careful way Amia touched her. As far as she was concerned, the pine marten was a very fine doctor. Poor Dania had not even the slightest suspicion that Amia was at that very moment contemplating how much she would enjoy removing all the Torquehelm's blood. This was probably for the best, all things considered.
"Thanks. I'll stick with the ice for right now... I'm not sure I can take another paw above my heart." The rat laughed, a touch bitterly. It was bad enough walking about on three limbs all the time, with both paws on her left side out of commission she would be totally immobilized, and therefore defenseless. "Do you think it's okay to walk on it until I can get back to the inn?" Dania really did not want to have to hire a carriage just to get back to her rented room and rest. "I can put it up on pillows or something once I get there."

When Dania mentioned another paw being above her heard, she really noticed the complication her tail caused. She had of course noticed her own tail being wrapped around her, that was a bit hard to miss, but for a moment her eyes glanced to the leg the tail held up.
How uncomfortable!
As for the numbness, a little numbness and swelling was to be expected, and Dania had said maybe a little, so it didn't seem like much, so it shouldn't be a problem after her paw had a little time to heal. Though wait, what was this? She wanted to talk on it so she could get back to some inn? She didn't know how far or close it was, but either way, it wouldn't help the healing process if she went about walking on it. Even if it wasn't as bad as it could have been, her paw was still stepped on by a horse!
This just would not do. Though by the look on her face she didn't seem to like what it would mean if she said no. "Well, no, walking on it would be rather counter-productive." If she couldn't walk on it, maybe she could help her another way if she wanted to get back to her room. There had to be someone in the Capital who wanted to help a damsel in distress! "I can carry the apples for you, and maybe we can get someone to help you!" she exclaimed optimistically. She turned out to the many people walking by taking no notice of them. Maybe if she could make eye contact with just one of them it would grant her an opening to ask!
