Yes, it's true; your creatures can be killed. It is unlikely that they will die of old age, unless you want to RP it out, but if you get into a fight, you're fair game. So here are some rules for kicking someone else's rear and what happens afterward.
Fights
(1) The first and most important rule is that any and all fights must be monitored by an Admin or a Mod. If you don't have anyone to moderate, fight points will not be awarded and the results may not actually occur.
(2) No Godmodding! Please fight fairly or you will automatically lose your battle.
For example, if your creature is fighting a number beneath them; do not become overconfident and assume that you have them pwn'd. For all you know, they have Mod-given powers or unusual birth circumstances! If they write that their creature flings itself at your face and then they wait for your response, they have followed the rules thus far.
Now think for a second: where does your creature hail from? Are they from the Range or the Wastes? If they are (and there are others, this is just an example) then you can probably type in that your creature dodges the attack unless pinned or something ridiculously "aaargh". If your creature is from, say, the Selkie Lakes, their bulk probably won't move as fast as the other, and they might hit you. Describe the scrape on your arm or something.
You may not write something like the following:
The problem here is that the original poster stated the other creature's actions without giving the other poster a chance to respond. They may have had a power to prevent that, or they might have preferred to move their critter into a different range so that their neck was shot or something. Let the other person play as well. You do not rule the board. Sorry.
(3) It is highly recommended that you PM the person you will be battling with and discuss the outcome before the battle, then RP it out so that you are both satisfied with what is going on.
This is not a must, and surprise battles can be fun, but if you are doing it to advance your character or for a purpose (cool scar, loss of limb, etc...) it is better that the other person knows what you want out of the fight.
(4) If you lose a fight and are angry with the results, if you feel that the other player was unfair, or if you change your mind....do not delete the post out of frustration. All this does is make you look dodgy and sulky. Please PM me, direct me to the post, and I'll do what I can to correct the issue. We aim to please here, within reason.
Death
As said above, your creatures can indeed kick the bucket. Sadly, there are rules to go with this as well.
(1) Under no circumstances may a character be killed without roleplay! If you are going to kill someone off, try to make sure there is a decent reason for their demise. If you just suddenly PM me with a request for the benefits of insertname's death I will be asking for the post where they died. If you can't show me the post, or if you haven't RPed why they are suddenly deceased, I will not give you the benefits of their death.
(2) You may not decide that someone else's character is dead for them. If they do want their character to die, tell them to PM me. Someone else doing it makes me suspicious.
(3) Do not tell me that you killed a character because you just didn't like how they looked or were too low in rank. Ranks can be built upon, revolutions will happen, breedings occur, etc. No character is worthless. Don't throw them away just because you didn't like their color or something petty. At least try to make up a better reason.
Saying "This one is ugly...can I kill it?" will just make me upset so please try not to do that.
Death Benefits / Options
What's this? There are benefits to the death of your beloved creature? Indeed there are, as well as choices you can make about their journey into the beyond.
First off, when your creature dies it is not necessarily gone forever. If you would like to choose an afterlife for your critter, PM Nathalia with your choice of the following:
(1) Become a ghost and haunt the area where you died. This is always fun if you're killed in a heavily trafficked area, or in an area where you know someone fun to play with will end up. For example, a bedroom, bathroom, or kitchen are always fun. It is less fun if you die randomly out in the Golfam Marsh and no one ever finds your spirit again. If you do die out in the middle of nowhere, you may want to try choice two. Your character can no longer breed or accumulate points.
(2) Become a ghost and haunt the person who killed you, intentionally or not. If someone runs you over, you could haunt them as easily as you would haunt a creature who bested you in a sword fight. If you do make this choice, your character will only be able to follow and speak to that one person. Your character can no longer breed or accumulate points.
(3) If you are tired of the character, or if they would truly find rest in the afterlife, you may decide that they are gone for good. Just PM the admin (Nathalia) and a note of the happening will be placed in the records. Your character can no longer breed or accumulate points.
(4) If you are willing to do a quest and continue some in-depth RP, this choice may be for you! Have your character return from the dead as an undead, and learn the joy of being a total and complete outcast! That may sound terrible, but it can sometimes provide a lot of fun RP that wasn't available beforehand. Your character can no longer breed without magical assistance, but they can still accumulate points.

Maryn stepped lightly to the side and brought her interlocked fists down in a crushing blow on the passing Diamond's skull. She listened with grim satisfaction to his strangled cry as he then crashed headlong into the stone pathway. "Too bad you weren't watching yourself in the King's room..." Maryn murmured, pulling her crossbow seemingly straight from her chest, from out of the center of her heart marking. "Now you'll have to pay the price of ignorance." She loaded the bolt and fired it into the Highlander's left leg. "Is it bliss?" she asked, firing again. "I've always wondered if ignorance really was..."
