The colt carefully did as he was told, though it was a bit difficult for him lacking not only hands but paws either. Hooves were not meant for putting medicine onto his wounds, so he had to use the tools with his mouth. Whether the man meant to or not, the activity managed to distract him from his internal pain. It took him quite some time to get it put on properly. He listened absently as Elias talked, finding the words a soothing distraction from all of his pain. He wasn't really following the words too well, but it was hard to figure out just wot the man was talking about. Oh, well, if it was really important, he figured the canine would just repeat it. Probably.
After a few moments of letting his physical pain settle again, the boy reached for the other medication, swallowing the bitter root down quickly and praying that the promised oblivion of the meds would strike him swiftly. He didn't want to be conscious when the pain and memories caught up with him.

*AN INDETERMINATE TIME OF MENDING LATER*
El looked in to see if the equine was awake. "Rise and shine!" El said. "You've been down for a few weeks, and the healer thinks the sooner you get up and try to move after your bones are mended, the easier it will be to get back in the saddle. So to speak. So get up. I don't care if you cuss me now, you'll be thanking me later. I've been on the sour end of a beating or two, and you gotta just push through it." He moved to help the colt stand, and to help him walk out to the yard.
"You might not be happy with it, but you will be healthy. I'd say healthy as a horse, but you've been freakin' sick and that just ruins the saying for me. After that, we'll get you a nice dose of that herb stuff the doctor left to take the edge off and have a nice night by the fire. Rains are probably going to start again tonight."

Rai groaned and burrowed deeper under the blankets in protest. He had been saved, he realized, by an utter madman. Elias was freakin' crazy! These latest exercises were just further proof of the fact. Who went and sat out in the rain just because it was raining? Elias, apparently! The boy continued to grouse unhappily, unwilling to get out of bed and go face the world; not yet, anyway. Maybe in a few days or weeks.
Abruptly the covers flipped back and a bucketful of water doused the colt. Rai gasped in absolutely shock, grey-green gaze shooting up to stare at the canine who met his gaze flatly for a moment before turning his back and walking off with his bucket.
"Wot'd you do that for?!" the colt shouted angrily. "Now my bed's going to be soaked tonight! I could catch pneumonia and DIE."

"Oh, so you ARE awake? I was beginning to have my doubts," El said sardonically. "Technically you're in my bed, and it wouldn't be wet if you'd get out of bed when I get you. Freakin' layabout little colt thinks I don't know he's been milkin' his bed rest.
"Second! Why do you think I've been having you sit out in the rain and cold? Capital City spa treatment? It's so if you have to sleep in the wet or cold, you WON'T get pneumonia. It's my little recipe for surviving in the marsh. You take a little bit of hurting and discomfort, and it makes it easier to take the next batch, and then there's no telling what sort of punishment you can take, and dish it right back out, son. It's exactly the same as the poison I've been slipping you."

The colt was sulking in his cold and wet bed right up until that last line. "You've been slipping me WOT?!" the boy screeched in complete and utter shock. "Are you trying to KILL ME?!?!?" The incongruity of the statement, especially after Elias had spent so much time and effort into getting the little equine better, didn't strike Rai in the least.
"Why in the freakin' world would you poison me?! You're going to kill me instead and then wot? I'll be dead! I can't get revenge if I'm dead!" The colt bit off that last statement with a muttered curse. He hadn't talked to El about his desire for revenge, whether or not the canine could guess. But the young horse was determined to get back at the Lowlanders who attacked him and especially those who killed his brother. His ears flattened mulishly.

"Shut up," Elias said when the colt took a breath. "I didn't poison you, I gave you poison. There's a difference. If I wanted to poison you, I'd give enough of any number of the herbs and weeds here that they make their poison from up in the capital. Certainly enough of it. By the time I'm done with you, no plant here in the Marsh will be able to touch you. If you have a little bit of a rash, or in the case of some of it, some scarring, then small price to pay to be able to work with poisons for your revenge there, huh?" The truth was, Elias had found a person who now had reason to hate the Lowlanders as much as he did, and he was going to use it. He'd also take this opportunity to use the colt as slave er free labor.
"Now imagine if you will the chance to make a mash of poison that will simultaneously strangle its victim and make them vomit. Normally skin contact is enough, but you can put it in food, and eat it so that they trust you, not flinch, and then watch them die. Oh, and stomach contact, if you're not inured to it, will make it all worse. How's that for revenge, bucko?
"Now eat your deathweed like a good boy and we'll get to the real business, alright?"

Rai would have retorted with any number of responses, but he was simply flabberghasted by the man before. Wot kind of nutcase put that much thought into poison?! Finally, he replied in a rather subdued manner-- granted, he was still dripping onto his equally sopped bed-- with another question, "Why would I want to poison anyone? I want to just kill them..."
Lower-ranked than his saviour, Rai didn't really have a way to outright stop the man from doing pretty much anything he wanted to, even use the little colt for slave labour, for however much use the boy might be. Of course, it didn't actually occur to the lad that the canine might be thinking of anything remotely like that; obviously he was still too injured to be put to work, even though the man was making his plans fairly evident about it already.

El shrugged as best as one could without arms. "Fine, you can kill them, but you're still going to be immune to toxin. Some of them will knock you on your butt at first, and it will give you time to think things through. Things like, if they messed you up this badly, what sort of plan will help you take them later? Where are they now? Are you even going to be able to find them? I say, kill them all, they'll be sorted out later. Maybe you'd want to help with that?" The canine scrutinized the colt shrewdly. Somehow he thought that might appeal. Maybe he was just superimposing his own values on the kid.
"Well, hop on out. It's a nice sunny day, which is good for your bedding. We'll hang it out and see how much of a hike your legs are up to. I'd ask if it sounds good, but I don't care. Let's move it."

"You said it was going to rain later..." the colt muttered under his breath, but, at this point, he didn't want to chance anything else Elias might try to do to him.
However, El's comment about testing his legs brought a hint of consternation to the young equine's expression. With a great deal of trepidation, the boy inched to the edge of the bed and set down shaky forelegs to touch the floor. He was cheered and pleased when they seemed to held up for the slight pressure he put on them. He slowly added more and more weight. The forelegs seemed all right and Whip slowly slipped forward further. Finally he brought forth his hindlegs and... slipped.
All four hooves hit the ground at once, followed by a hard thud as his body followed suit. The colt cursed under his breath and struggled back to his feet. His legs were as weak as a newborn, but he refused to be ruled by the lack of strength.
Finally, he was able to follow after the canine, though he swayed a bit and had to really push his bdy to respond. Now was the time fro rehab, but it would certainly be slow going.
