Eurwen muttered an embarrassed thank you when Ayden helped her. Everything was going down hill rather quickly, and she had managed to make an idiot of herself. She gave a small sigh of relief when the pain dissipated. She needed to actually get her brother to make things that worked like this. Things got rather hairy after that. The sounds of screaming turning into complete and utter silence, something serious was going on, and she didn't like it one bit. At least the Ace was taking the front, and seemed to be... enjoying itself? When they came to the door she tensed, slipping into the proper position, pulling her weapon out of its place on her belt. Hopefully things would go smoothly. Eurwen's whiskers twitched when Ayden whispered in her ear. She followed his finger. So that was the little door to the capital? They could ship off if things got too complicated to handle. She gave a firm nod, giving his hand a tight squeeze. She shifted a bit to see through the door, catching a glimpse of the strange people. Was that a wolverine? And... what was that mix? "I think that...." she started in a whisper but was promptly cut off by a voice demanding to know if someone was there. That was fast. Letting out a small sigh she let go of Ayden's and motioned for him to stay. She was going to handle this. The Ace wasn't screaming bloody murder, and someone would come and look. "I'll come out slowly," she replied to whoever was there. She still had a loose hold on her weapon just in case as she slowly moved into the door frame. --- Kamina made a small happy mew when the Ace licked her. She watched as it darted forward, nearly taking out Ayden. Hopefully nothing would happen to the adorably sweet thing. It was just an Ace, it didn't deserve to die, and it didn't know any better. When everyone picked up the pace, the girl lagged behind painfully aware that she couldn't properly run. At least she was capable of keeping them in sight, even if she was a good deal behind. No one would bother her, it seemed, since no one else was around. That seemed funny, considering the guards had been so abundant earlier. What if they had gone outside? Oh that was bad.She arrived fairly late, everyone was at the door and Ayden was explaining something to Eurwen. The Ace had already gone inside then? She sat down far behind everyone and silently waited for someone to explain something. The girl took to staring at a painting. It was pretty with a Selkie woman on it.

Jovan hung back ever so slightly. Eurwen and Ayden could take care of themselves and they had the Ace leading to forewarn them of any danger. Kamina, however, couldn't move as quickly and she didn't have anyone to protect her if something did go awry. So here he was, trudging along with her like the good Protector he was. And then the scream cut out entirely. The silence seemed to cut through him more than the scream itself, rending his heart with the terrible knowledge. Death laid ahead of them now. He gently reached out to touch Kamina's shoulder as he noted Ayden waving him forward. "Be safe. I won't be far." He picked up his pace to join Ayden and Eurwen, skidding to their sides as the Ace barreled past them into the main room. He was practically holding his breath as he listened. He nodded to Ayden, well aware of what must be done if something happened. And then he pointed something out to Eurwen. Hm... When the voice called out and Eurwen stepped out, Jovan's heart skipped a beat. He didn't move, didn't say a word, just listened and waited. If anything happened, he'd be there but for now patience seemed better. Hopefully. The little blob of ink wriggled on his head, making his ear twitch in frustration. Why must the thing insist on being so friendly when he was focused on other things?

The Ace seemed distressed, whining and nudging at Timothy's hand. It also seemed upset by all the blood. Graeme couldn't blame it, for as he turned to face the door, he felt his insides squirm with protest. He reached over to scratch the Ace behind the ears absently. "It's no good, Ah'm afraid, laddie," he muttered, even though he knew the Ace wouldn't understand. His call towards the door had gotten a response, which made Graeme feel at least a little better. Maybe someone from the local authorities? Then again...these officers already -had- been, and hadn't Timothy said they were the last living true police?
He watched as someone walked out into the room. Someone small, and though they had the vague colors of a Selkie, he wasn't sure if they actually were. But she seemed to be covered in a lot of...plant matter, and also had the look of someone who'd been through a lot that day. Oh dear. He forced a smile onto his bill and spoke in a voice mostly free of his normal accent. "Hello. I'm Graeme McDuck, and I was here to witness the official opening of the new oil wells with the Mayor and the Queen of Spades. However..." He shrugged, looking sad, and gestured at the mess of the room. "Things quickly got out o'hand."

Eurwen paused at the threshold of the room, the man was speaking rather politely and she honestly didn't expect as much chaos in the room as she saw. A little out of hand? This was a war zone. What the hell had happened here? Why was the duck being so calm? She carefully slipped the boomerang into her belt, still there for easy access.
"Ah... Hello," Eurwen began as she tried to assess the situation. Dead bodies, and the wolverine was completely covered in blood. And there was a man huddled in the corner who looked... what was wrong with him? "I was asked to help the Mayor, by proxy, however I wasn't told everything and this is far beyond the scope of anything I expected. My name is Eurwen, please explain what you know about the state of the manor and this situation. And--my god--is that man all right?" She motioned to the sickly cat with antlers. "I'm part Corvie and I can take a look at him."
---
Kamina was grateful for Jovan when he did protect her. She'd have to tell Mommy about it later.
The girl was intently staring at the portrait when she heard Eurwen's voice. And there was someone before that. They were having a nice chat, did that mean everything was safe? She slowly wandered over to the group, tapping Jovan lightly she asked him as quietly as she could muster, "Is the Puppy all right?"

Jovan's brows furrowed. He'd only managed a brief glance into the room before ducking back out of sight, but even from that he could tell that whatever happened was more than a little 'out of hand'. People were dead in there, there was blood everywhere...
Yet, the man seemed to be being rather pleasant about the whole deal and Eurwen didn't seem distressed though her words were a little unsettling. Man in a corner? Bodies... But... maybe everything was fine. Maybe these people had been attacked by the dead men? Though, really, the screaming seemed to suggest otherwise...
He bit his lip slightly, having to hold himself back from storming into the room with Eurwen. Kamina still needed him and so far Ayden hadn't made a move forward. Patience was probably best.
And then Kamina poked him. He turned back to her, an awkward smile on his muzzle and nodded calmly. "Yeah. From what I could see. Though I think it may have belonged to one of the dead men." One of them. Goodness.

Graeme nodded. "It's nice t'meet ye, Eurwen," he said, slipping more into his accent as he got a little more upset. He could half see the remains of Dalphus out of the corner of his eye and...this just looked really bad. Heh, it -was- really bad. And it was going to take some explaining. Graeme found himself wishing that he'd had time to get that tea, before things got so...crazy. "It's rather a long story, Ah'm afraid, lass." The smile wavered, and eventually vanished, leaving the Duck looking tired, worn, and old.
He replaced his hat slowly, running a hand through his hair. "T'start with...we were lied to. That..." he gestured to Dalphus. "Was nae the Mayor. The Mayor is very ill and is that antlered man in the corner, and nae, he is most certainly NAE okay." He shook his head and was forced to lean against the table for support, as he started trembling, the facts all rushing out of him and leaving him feeling raw and ragged with the horror of what he'd just found out. "Th'Selkie's have all bin dying, lass. There's somethin' in the water, and it makes their fur all scraggly and yellow, and it gets worse...they lose their sight and their minds and their lives. That man..." He gestured at Timothy, sadly. "He took 'is auwn life rather than succumbing to the fate of the illness. They don't ken what caused it, they've tried everythin', including Corvies, he said. And it only affects those with Selkie blood in them. Inviting the Queen and meself here was th'final attempt t'get some semblance of normality back. But the Queen feared for th'life of her missing daughter and went inta a rage...Dalphus had t'pretend t'be the mayor, since his cousin is so far gone nauw." He wasn't going to sugar coat the truth just to save Donnie's reputation. Not when getting to the root of this situation was certainly going to involve seeking help from anyone and everyone who could.
He looked at Eurwen, gold-orange eyes sorrowful. "Ah fear this may have spread sauw far already...to the Capital, even, he said...if we can't find a cure, we could be lookin' at a future with nae more Selkie Lakes, and nae more Selkies."

Eurwen's face immediately fell when the man started explaining what was happening. She could feel her heart twisting in ways that she didn't think was possible. People were dying. People from the Lakes. That meant her family was in danger. Ayden was in danger. And if it had spread to the Capital that meant that Zane, Ez, Ceren and everyone. No. No. They were fine.
They tried everything huh? Well they hadn't tried her!
She raised her paw slowly at the end of the man's heartbreaking speech. "One moment please," she said as she slipped out of the doorway and back into the hall. "Ayden, since you're a Selkie I want you to stay out here. You heard the man as clear as day, right? I'm going to see if something works. It's a long shot, but I at least have to try. Please don't.... I just... Please be safe and wait out here. I don't want anything to happen to you."
She turned to Jovan, "If you can talk to Mr. McDuck some more or help me that would be great... just be warned, it's a massacre. Kamina... er... make sure Ayden doesn't come in the room?"
A choked sigh escaped her as she turned back to to room and walked in. She made a point of staying as far away as she possibly could from the Wolverine and other noble, focusing on the cat with antlers. Maybe she should talk, talking seemed like a good plan. "So, I'm a bit cursed," she clutched her tail, "And I know that a drop of my blood can cure blood poisoning. I just don't know if it can help with this."
She bit down on the end of her tail as hard as she could, drawing blood. She winced when she broke the skin. Now she just needed to... get the Mayor to...accept treatment. And she wasn't particularly sure how to deliver the treatment at that.
Were the people in that room just like him? He did smell a bit like ink, though she was praying that was her imagination.
Affected Needle: Good heavens! There are needles all over this drawer! Almost as though someone dropped a jar of them! The SD in question, however careful they are, seems to have stuck themselves by accident. A small tingle will alert them to the fact that they have been cursed, however mildly and what the curse is may take a while to find out though. They are now highly susceptible to needles, every time they're in the presence of one, they almost always injure themselves somehow. A drop of their blood, however, is now an excellent antidote for blood poisoning...this much they are aware of.
--
Kamina made a worried mew when Jovan explained what was going on. That was sad. The poor puppy must have been confused. And if he belonged to someone dead than he would have no where to go.
Her fur bristled a bit when Eurwen addressed everyone. What was happening? The pretty mouse man was in danger or something? And she wanted him to stay outside? Wasn't Ayden the leader. This was all very confusing. She gave a small nod when she was told what to do.
She leaned closer to the door though peaking in slightly to try and get the Ace's attention, "Puppy can you come out here? You shouldn't be in everyone's way."

Jovan paused, back still to the door from addressing Kamina, as he heard the old man's voice dropping into lower and lower tones of depression and exhaustion. The cultured voice lost a bit of it's refinement and became more natural under the weight of the situation. His heart instantly went out to the man.
As he went on, however, his heart sunk more and more... Oh Suits! What... What was this? Widespread decimation of a region?
He turned to Eurwen as she returned, his eyes full of worry but he nodded without protest. "Of course." He murmured. He gave Kamina a gentle pat on the shoulder, and inclined his head slightly to Ayden, a frown of concern creasing his muzzle before he slipped away into the main room.
His stomach immediately protested the full rush of scents to his nose. Blood, ink. Ink. The blobling on his head made a strange little nose and retreated down to wrap around his neck once more. Jovan's expression twisted slightly as his gaze fell upon the mad mayor in the corner. How tragic. He dropped his head and then turned his attention to the Highland duck.
"Hello, Graeme, was it? I'm Jovan." He inclined his head slightly to the older man and offered a tentacle if he was interested in shaking it. "I'm entirely at your service. Is there anything I can do to... help?"
His gaze drifted over the bloody room, the multiple bodies (one of which had apparently taken his own life), and finally to the Wolverine woman, he recognized her as The Queen of Spades but... why was she a Diamond? He shook that thought out of his mind quickly. The long-fingered man seemed to be dealing with her and Jovan wouldn't even know where to begin if she had.. murdered someone. It was much easier to just focus on Mr. McDuck.

Graeme nodded tiredly at Eurwen. It was really all he could do, after that. He felt drained, suddenly, the events of the day catching up to him as he'd relived them through his words. He knew he was shaking, but he clutched tightly at his cane to try and hide it. Lucky thing his feathers were already white, or else his tight grip would surely leave his knuckles looking too pale. Oh, how he wished at that moment to be somewhere relaxing...perhaps back at home enjoying a bit of tea, or, even better, amongst his money counting it. His eyes narrowed slightly as he watched Eurwen walking out to converse with someone in the hall, only half paying attention.
He glanced about on the desk, having half a mind to find something to count, even if it couldn't be gold coins. It would calm him down...but no, no. That would just look bloody odd to everyone else. And there was nothing there but papers, pens, a vase of very wilted flowers, and the various spell components. Half of that was singed from the fireball anyway. "Be careful, lass," he mumbled as Eurwen approached the former Mayor. But...he felt a bit hopeful at her words. If her blood could cure poison...if even one Selkie could be inundated against this horrible sickness...
Another voice suddenly startled him out of his thoughts, and he turned, wings fluffing out a bit. "Oh! Hello, Jovan," he said, extending his hand to shake and not immediately realizing he was shaking a tentacle. When he did he gave it a second look, but after the things he'd seen, it was almost normal. At least it looked like a natural, wanted mutation. "Thank you very much, but...Ah'm nae sure." He managed a small smile for the boy. He looked on the verge of adulthood, and was very polite, so Graeme was glad of his company.

Ayden watched Eurwen put up her weapon and enter, feeling a very slight hint of delight in the fact that she hadn't simply charged in and bludgeoned the old man to death. As much as he loved her fiery snap-decisions...that one would have been harder than most to explain. Hearing what the man inside said...had his ears fold back and his eyes go wide. "What?" He asked the silence. Eurwen's reappearance and worry was...endearing, but now that he thought about it? The scream sounded vaguely familiar... He nodded to her and had gingerly patted Kamina on the shoulder... He'd kissed her hand in response to her question, but slowly poked his head around the door, staring at the form of the man who must be Graeme McDuck. "Greetings, sir. I am Ayden, I was on a special job for Mayor Cillis? Might you...know...where.." His jaw went slack and he simply stared across the room at the man Eurwen was crouching over, making small, freakish noises, missing his eyes...that color and- And obviously out of his mind. "Suits! Cillis! What- What happened?" He stumbled backwards, still staring at the ghastly vision of his employer and felt a chill run down his spine. What was this?
The former Mayor gives a snarling laugh, eye sockets drizzling their goo onto the floor as he slams his head against the wall with a sickening crack!, breaking one of his antlers in half. Inside is nothing but dried, brittle bone...they've...dried out. His mouth hanging open was a wonderful way to get the Mayor to take her blood. Even though it did nothing. Oh dear...maybe this isn't so much blood poisoning as it is...magical?
Ayden cursed, kicking a doorstop so that it ricocheted down the hall. Tearing at his hair a little until trying to calm down for Kamina. He gazed in again at the blood-drenched Wolverine...gingerly trying to get her attention. "Good...evening...might you be Queen Donolda? I had heard you would be arriving. Would it be too much trouble to enquire as to what transpired here?" He honestly didnt think he wanted to know.))~Nathalia
