Arpeggio trilled, poking his head back out of the bag now that he'd finally managed to wriggle his body most of the way in. He blinked his large eyes at Joel curiously, and then leaned forward to gently brush noses with him and then dart back into the bag, trilling sounding almost like laughter now. At least he was innocently having fun.
Who did he think was out there? Well, personally, Colin thought it was more likely that whatever had locked them in wasn't a Card...it had something to do with all this magic running around. He felt a tiny bit of panic. Were they responsible for their own incarceration? Did them finding those boxes and Joel opening one somehow trap them in here? Well, there was nothing for it now...and he didn't want to scare Dania any more than she already was. "I don't know," he said with a shrug, but the casual movement was a little shakey. "Queen Mia would never do this." And, so far as Colin knew, he was the only other conscious Card here. Hence the magic theory.
"Another exit? Well, there's the windows..." Colin brightened a bit and fluttered over towards one of the library's large windows. But upon trying to open it, he found that it, too, was locked. With a chirp of dismay, he tried another window. And another. But they were all locked. And the glass looked a bit too heavy to break unless he had something to throw at it. But this definitely lent credence to his magical theory...what Card would bother locking the door and all the windows? And somehow do it unnoticed?

Joel blinked in surprise as Colin's summon brushed noses with him, then laughed again and jabbed a bulky paw in Arpeggio's general direction. He wasn't aiming to actually poke the tove, he just liked the lithe sort of way that it moved, and how easily it could dodge an oncoming paw. He was rather enjoying the interaction, and so he frowned when he noticed that Dania and Colin were no longer searching the shelves, but staring at the door with dismay that bordered on blind panic.
Although she wasn't willing to voice her fears out loud, she also had the awful suspicion that it wasn't one of the two remaining nobles who locked the library door. It was something much more sinister and unknown. She tried the windows repeatedly, but they seemed not only latched, but somehow sealed, which gave her the inaccurate but frightening feeling that there was not enough air in the room. She felt her heart race and she panted slightly. Her eyes darted around anxiously, then closed as she took a deep breath and tried to pull herself together.
"Okayyy..." She said half to herself. "We can't get out, so all we can really do is keep looking for clues... or the key." She looked to Colin for approval as she headed back to the shelf where she'd left off searching, just to the left of the main door. She figured that if they continued the search in a mehtodical counter-clockwise fashion, they at least had a better chance of finding any clues the room held.

((An odd rustling noise comes from all around them, as though somehting has heard them speak...
The doors and windows all suddenly BURST open and pieces of spare parchment fly everywhere in the rush. The doors and windows will remain open now, regardless of what is attempted to shut them... And it begins to rain. Oh dear, I hope the library isn't too badly damaged...
A table in the middle of the library shudders and a massive stack of books falls to the floor. The pages suddenly whirl on the one left behind and stop randomly at three different pages. Depending on the reactions of everyone in the room...it will fall to one page and stay there...)))

Arepeggio trilled happily and his eyes followed Joel's paw...and sure enough, the young boy would not be disappointed as the Tove moved with serpentine grace to twist out of the way. He darted back into the bag afterwards, large eyes blinking out at him. His ears twitched, though, hearing Colin's and Dania's voices. He had no idea what was going on, of course...
Colin nodded and had to fight the urge to pull out his feathers in frustration. Why was all this even happening? They still had absolutely NO idea what was going on, what kind of magic they were dealing with, or why everyone in the Palace just up and vanished overnight! With a heavy sigh, the Cardinal turned away from the window and walked back towards the shelves he'd been searching...only to pause at a weird rustling noise.
"What in the name of...?" But before Colin could finish the sentence, the window behind him suddenly EXPLODED and Colin squawked and threw himself to the ground to avoid being hit by the glass. His purple eyes were wide and he scrambled to his feet, slipping a few times before he managed to gain purchase on the parchemment-covered floor. "DANIA? JOEL? IS EVERYONE OKAY?" Colin yelled, quite thoroughly panicked. In answer, Arpeggio gave a worried trill and flew to Colin's side, twining around and around his neck in fear and burying his little Tove head in Colin's feathers.
He looked desperately around for his two companions, and it was about that time that he felt the first few drops of icy rain hitting his back from the opened window. Well...that was just...great.

Dania uttered an embarrassing squeak of surprise as the door just to her side exploded open with shocking force. She also hit the floor, covering her face with her paws. Her first thought was that they were all going to die. Her second thought was that at least they weren't locked in anymore. As chilling rain began to pound on the roof, her third thought was that it was a terrible shame that so many books were going to be utterly ruined.
When she heard Colin's panicked voice, she wanted to wail that no, she was not even remotely okay, nothing about this entire situation even resembled 'okay', but she cleared her throat and tried to speak around the lump that had formed there, "I'm... not hurt. I'm okay." As Dania got up, she placed her feet carefully to avoid the paper that had almost tripped Colin. She glanced anxiously at her assistant, who was sprawled on the floor in a that suggested that he had fallen, rather than gotten to the floor intentionally.
Luckily for her tenuous control on calm, it was a mere second later when Joel's voice, somewhat shaken, responded, "I'm Okay... Arpeggio is too. He was in a bag." It didn't make a lot of sense to mention that, but his mind seemed curiously slowed by the loud sounds of the windows and door bursting open. He scrambled to his feet as well, his back hooves slipping a little on damp sheets of parchment, then shook his head to clear his mind, which seemed to work, somewhat. "That was crazy! I've read of changes in air pressure doing that before, but I've never seen it for myself. There's probably a hurricane or tornado headed this way. We may want to think about taking shelter." The boy didn't seem as fazed by this as one would expect. With a scientific explanation in mind, Joel felt considerably better about the past few seconds events than Dania did.
"I'm... not so sure it was just air pressure." She murmured, only loud enough for Colin's ears. "Do you think we should stay here and search, or use this chance to get out while the door is open?" She looked to the queen for guidance, quite at a loss. "If we stay here we could try to move the books away from the rain... but if it is a tornado coming, this wouldn't be a good place to be... heavy flying objects..." The rat's voice trailed off helplessly. She was afraid to stay in the library, which seemed to be the epicenter of the strangeness, but equally scared of the unknown and unsearched area outside the library, where just about anything could be lurking in the multitude of rooms and corridors.

Colin nodded, letting out a breath of relief when he received two answers. As Joel mentioned Arpeggio, Colin flicked a brief glance to his Tove, who was curled tightly around his neck almost to the point of being a bit uncomfortable. He was also shaking a bit, though Colin could hardly blame him. That was almost certainly more than the poor Tove had ever had to deal with before. He nodded absently as Joel prattled on about something Corvie-ish and decidedly unhelpful. This was no natural weather phenomenon, and Colin certainly didn't need science to tell him that.
He ran a few wing feathers threw his crest and carefully picked his way over towards Dania. Colin needed to make a tough decision, and he put a wing up to forestall further comment from the Rat so he could think. It was just like Dania to care about the books at a time like this, although...although when this crisis was finally averted, Colin would hate to realize they'd just lost priceless works of literature and Court history because he was busy being a coward.
"Well, I highly doubt we're going to get locked in again after this," the Cardinal said, looking around at the ruined door and windows, a smile almost twitching the corners of his beak. "And there's no point worrying about exactly what sort of storm this is going to be when we have no way of knowing. So...let's try to get the most valuable books moved." He nodded and went to the bookcase closest to the window that had nearly exploded onto him. He began to pick up stacks of books, working quickly, and moving them to the dryer part of the library. Arpeggio apparently had gotten over his scare, as he was now curiously peering around as Colin worked, still riding on the Queen's shoulder.

((Zane wakes up outside in the Spades garden. The sky is dark and it's pouring down rain on him. He feels bloody awful and his midsection feels horribly tight. The windows appear to be open, and he can hear voices drifting out of one up on the side near the library...actually...is that the library?
Sadly, similar to the way that Colin and his crew cannot leave building for being slapped back into the library...Zane cannot enter. Going in any doors or windows will find him back out in the garden on his back.
What can he do?
The pages stopped on an open description of the current Selkie Mayor. A thick-bodied Maine Coon Feline with some sort of antlered heritage, he is quite a stately Biped and looks wealthy enough. A description of him speaks of his wealth he's discovered for the Lakes, and his quest for oil to transport. It also speaks of his childhood friend; a Benyan man named Toolock who hasn't been seen in years; apparently, they found their first oil well together.
Your goal is to send Zane for help. The Spades Court has always had good relations with the Diamonds, and Zane has family there...this seems a good place to start. Hopefully, he can find someone there to help him.)))

(Your goal says hello <3 XD feel free to ignore him until you want to ladies.) Zane coughed and sputter water when he awoke, automatically pulling up his wings over his head to stop the rain. Why was he outside? Hadn't he been doing some accounting earlier? What had happened? The leather winged sparrow winced as he stood up. Suits. Why was he in the garden in the pouring rain? Ugh and why did he feel so tight? Confused, sore, and soaking wet the sparrow started poking around the garden. Wait? Was that the library? And the windows were open! A happy chirp escaped him at the prospect of not having to use his wings as an umbrella. He rushed over to the window, and decided to go through it, even if that wasn't very Kingly. And suddenly he was on his back with an undignified squawk, water in his mouth, and a little bit more sore. Apparently going through the library window was a bad idea. He slowly stood back up, using his wings as an umbrella yet again. He peered into the window this time. Was anyone in there to explain what was going on?

Dania was releived that Colin had been willing to make the decision, and also that it involved saving the books. "Right." She went to work with a will, focusing her attention on the left wall, as it not only contained valuable tomes, but had so far not been searched. She could get these out of the way of the water and keep an eye out for any possible clues at the same time. Killing two birds with one stone... Birds? Dania thought she heard a faint squawk over the pounding of the rain, but a glance out the broken window revealed no one.
"Joel, could you help with this?" Dania's tone was tight and irritable, although it was mainly fear that made her tense. Joel wasn't being at all helpful, but standing in the center of the library staring at a single heavy book that lay open on the desk.
The young Corive had been drawn to it, curious about the way it lay as though neatly placed there, the only one not have fallen off the desk when the windows burst open. It was strange, really, with the strength of the wind currents, it should have fallen with the others, or slammed the cover shut. It was like someone placed it there on purpose.
He approched it with caution and began to read, oblivious to Dania's impatient words. "Hey you guys, look at this! A Clue!" Joel had no idea what the clue meant, but he had no doubt that the large books was, indeed, part of the mystery. He was terribly proud of himself for finding it.

Colin wasn't near the window at all when Zane made his ill-fated attempt to get in, sadly, so he had no idea there was anyone out there. Over the sound of the pouring rain, the bird might need to yell to be heard in the windows of the library, which was on the second or third floor up from the ground. He continued to move the book, balancing as many as he dared on each trip. He paused, though, at Dania's snappish attitude. That was so different from what she had been like before, her meekness, and he worried that the constant air of paranoia and unease was beginning to badly affect all of them.
"A clue?" Setting down his current load of books as swiftly as he could, the Cardinal dashed over towards the young Corvie, nearly slipping on the parchment-covered floor again and having to beat his wings to avoid falling flat on his beak, but his dignity was barely given a second's thought in wake of this.
He eagerly looked at the book and skimmed the page, the corners of his beak turning in a frown. Brushing sopping wet feathers out of his eyes, Colin huffed out a breath. "I'm not sure what a mayor in the Selkie has to do with this..." he began imperiously, then stopped, blinking. Wait. Hadn't he heard yesterday at dinner that Donnie had left to visit the Selkie? Still...he shook his head. "I have no idea why this information is relevant to us, even if Her Majesty -is- currently meeting with the man. Presumably he is still in the Selkie, and he...discovered an oil well. It hardly seems like an unusual occurrence, and certainly doesn't at all explain the strange magic floating around here."
