Conway muttered, "Just... my back... that's all." And he whimpered again, because talking was starting to hurt as much as his back. His body was protesting his every twitch, but he couldn't stop. Stupid body. If it wanted to give up so badly it should pick a quieter way to go. This was not the sort of pain that Conway enjoyed.
He also didn't enjoy being forced to drink more tea. He wasn't one who even liked tea. However he wasn't strong enough to protest at any rate. So he drank the tea until Javaid took the cup away. When he was once again carefully placed on the bed he mused at how his throat stopped burning. Apparently there was something in that tea, or the pain had finally overwhelmed him.
Either way he couldn't feel it anymore. With another fit of coughing that fell into wheezing, he looked at the Jackal with watery eyes. "Why are you helping me?" he finally asked once the coughing had stopped.

Javaid had noticed his back seemed to bother him more than anything. He tended to lay on his front or his side, and when he did lay on his back he winced and whimpered. "Is there something wrong with your back?" He'd do what he could to help ease that if it was at all possible, just as he'd worked to do everything else.
When he'd gotten Conway to finish the cup of tea he allowed him to slide back down in bed and get comfortable, at least as comfortable as was possible in this state. He would absently check Conway's temperature, adjust the cold compress, all those little actions that he was slowly growing more and more accustomed to. When Conway spoke up, Javaid paused and tilted his head slightly.
Why was he helping him? "Because you need me to. I couldn't just let you die on my doorstep." Conway was a cute boy and, from his constant insecurities, Javaid could only assume that he didn't receive much in the ways of affection.

Oh well that worked, he guessed. Conway imagined how inconvenient someone dying on a doorstep would be. Among other things. He sighed and shook his head careful. "I uh... I have a unique... spine. It's actually partly outside of my body."
And that was problem the longest sentence that Conway had said in a month of two to anyone besides Thyme and his sister. With that massive accomplishment out of the way the man looked at Javaid up and down a little more clearly than before. He was.... different. Prettier than anyone he had seen before. Weird. He needed to stop thinking about that.
Then again it just didn't seem to compute. How exactly had he gotten in the bedroom? How could someone that slight... carry him? "Uh... is there anyone else living here?" Conway asked. He was actually a lot more lucid than he had been. What was in that tea anyway?

Javaid blinked in honest surprise to the boy's response, surprised and concerned and...intrigued, honestly. He wanted to ask to see, or too touch...but neither of such statements were appropriate for the situation. Quickly containing his curiousity, Javaid nodded slowly. "I see... I don't imagine there's anything I can do about that to make you more comfortable for the time being, but if there is please tell and I'll do what I can."
Although he couldn't help but acknowledge being studied, Javaid said nothing of it. Then again, his lack of acknowledgment had a lot to do with his exhaustion and the obvious fact that he'd deprived himself of a good deal of sleep to remain at Conway's bedside. For all that he was entirely unaccustomed to dealing with people on a regular basis, he was still a good man and did what he could to help those that truly needed help.
Conway's question brought him back from the thought of returning to the chair for another bout of semi-rest. Instead he simply shook his head, gazing up toward the stairs. "No, it's just me living here, and the dead that inhabit the tombs behind this temple."

Oh. Well. If Conway had been feeling a bit more morbid he would have asked about the dead bodies, instead he just settled on nodding. Which hurt, so he decided not to do it again. "Just... if you have extra pillows or something when I can move a bit better that might be nice." Conway muttered.
After much deliberation he decided that being on his stomach would feel a lot better. It took him quite a bit of effort to flop on his stomach. He was able to move a bit better though. Eating wasn't going to happen anytime soon though. Or... drinking again if he was going to be forced to.
Conway gave up trying to focus and slowly drifted off. He wouldn't wake up for quite a few hours, even if he was twitching uncomfortably. He wouldn't be well rested when he woke up. Just groggy as he shifted to take in his surroundings once again. Guh. He always ended up on his back when he woke up.

"That sounds easy enough, I'll fetch some for you in a moment then."
When the boy shifted to get more comfortable, Javaid watched him slip into the fitful sleep once more. If only there were more he could do... Once he was sure this was an extended 'sleep', Javaid got up and fetched some spare pillows from a closet and set them up on the bed for Conway were he to wake and want any.
He kept one for himself and finally bothered to remove his various jewelry and adornments in an attempt to make himself more comfortable in the chair as he 'slept'. It would remain as fitful and awkward as Conway's sleep, even with a pillow, but his occasional moments of waking at least gave him a chance to keep tabs on Conway's fever.
About the time when Conway woke next, Javaid finally managed to doze off in his chair and would be found dressed in only his bone ornaments and looking quite peaceful in his sleeping.

Conway managed to prop himself up on his elbows somehow. He blinked away his watery eyes as he looked at the figure sleeping in the corner. He raised an eyebrow as he studied Javaid. Well, he looked pretty without his jewelry too. Had Conway just called him pretty?
The young man coughed briefly for a few moments before spotting the spare pillows. Oh right, he had asked for those for his back. Now it was just a matter of getting them under his back. No, that wasn't going to happen so soon. Carefully he reached for one and managed to slide it under the most important part that needed to be cushioned. As awkward as it was, it really did help. Soft things were something that Conway adored but never would admit to. He was still a nine year old really, he was just trying his hardest to hide it.
He leaned back to stare at the ceiling. How long had he been here, and how much longer would he be unable to walk or do things on his own?

With a tired noise and a slight stretch, Javaid was woken from his sleep by Conway's soft coughing fit. His lapis lazuli orbs opened and watched without comment as Conway situated the pillows. Had he been a man of any less restraint than he might have crawled over and shared the bed with him.
"Mm, you're up..."
He murmured gently, leaning forward in order to pour himself some tea. After taking a small sip, he would climb to his feet and stretch the aches and kinks out of his body until he was considerably less stiff and then he would settle onto the edge of the bed. Checking his fever, adjusting things as he felt necessary.
"How are you feeling now?" He glanced at the single pillow beneath him and smiled a little. "Does it help? I can adjust the others as well if you'd like." Javaid paused for a moment, wondering if he was talking too much for the briefest of moments but his lack of sleep and worry had him rambling just a little. "Let me know when the pain kicks in again, alright?"

"Better," Conway said with another cough. His throat was still sore, but most of the pain was really just a dull ache. He could deal with it. He honestly didn't expect the man to be awake. Why he had to be socially awkward at a time like this? He sighed as he shifted his weight.
He really couldn't understand why this man was bothering to be so nice. Javaid had better things to do... even if those things were hanging around dead people. Conway decided to leave that thought where it was.
"I'm fine. It hurts a little but I don't think anything is going to make it better," he said as he turned to his side. He shuddered for a moment. His body really hated him. Enough that he flew into another coughing fit. He wasn't going to admit defeat so easily! He muttered incoherently after his coughing spell and looked back at Javaid with a miserable expression. "I'm not going to get better anytime soon."
