Herm. How to get around this one. Lie to his face or tell a half truth about the source of her information. It all depended on how well he could see through her. Not many people could. She didn't want to take all that many chances though.
"To find out drink preferences, all you really need to do is bother quite a few people in the kitchens. Even if you drink huge amounts of tea now, it didn't mean you always did. Capital City is sometimes extremely useful." She grinned as she took another sip of her tea. "Of course that was the ONLY thing a person could find out about you. You are good at covering up information leaks, Your Majesty."
She hoped he'd take that as a compliment and not throw her out on her ass. Choosing words carefully was a very dangerous thing when you were telling half truths--or even the truth. No one could truly master words, there was always the chance of slipping up.

Rai contemplated wot she told him, his ears flipped back slightly letting some silence rest between them for awhile. Of course... he -could- find out more about this whole incident, but he was nervous about it. If he pushed aside all of the Court politics, he thought there was a chance that he'd really like this feline. She was a bit nutty and Mnem and Minh had shown him that this wasn't necessarily a bad quality. Still... something about the woman wasn't quite right.
That thought caused a mental snort and abruptly the stallion seemed to relax. This woman was a Torquehelmian in a strait-jacket. Of course she wasn't quite right!
"I hope," the man said with some amusement. "That this face and any others about me will remain little known." A pointed, sidelong glance informed the woman that he expected her to help with that.
"So, Peaches," he settled back in his chair and nabbed the beer. "Wot are you hoping to accomplish in the Court?"

"Of course, your Majesty," Peaches said into her tea. She was doing her best not to smirk. It was difficult, but she managed to do it as she took a sip of her tea. Secrets were things she didn't give away, unless they were about herself and that was only to specific people. They were complicated things, secrets and relationships.
But they could wait. She had to answer his question now, didn't she. Heavens she had no idea this was an interview.
"Preform my services and duty. What any noble would do for their court and then some. Most of all though, I plan to live my life. Is their anything specific that you want to know? You gave me a rather broad question, Your Majesty." She sipped her tea again. She was a bitch of the courts, but she wasn't sure if she liked this Shinrai person yet. He was interesting with secrets, but was he nice? What made him who he was?
So many questions and so little answers. She probably wouldn't get them either. Yet.

Rai lofted a brow and put down his mug so he could steeple his fingers. Samid referred to it as his 'thinking pose' whenever he thought he could get away with being snippy. Actually, it was just that; a sign to let people know not to bother him. It was a deliberate action now, whether or not Peaches knew that yet. Something made the man think that she wasn't missing much. That was fine, too.
He smiled lightly as she questioned his question. "Exactly... wot do you see your services and duties being?" he clarified for her benefit. Not that he could answer the same sort of question when he was a Jack, but that was neither here nor there.
When Peaches had said she wanted to get her introduction with him, it hadn't occurred to the man that an interview wasn't wot she was asking for; perhaps it was time for him to take a little bit more leave.

She raised an eyebrow at his pose as she watched him intently. His smile was interesting too. The woman put her teacup down carefully in it's proper place before speaking. A smile was on her face the entire time--or rather, her classic catlike smirk. "My duties vary. Tea, paperwork, busy work, making connections, doing possible under the wraps work, being an ambassador, being a pain. Ultimately my purpose is to be used by the court members in many different ways without imposing on my free will."
She crossed her legs and reached for her tea cup to take another drink. "Is that an proper answer, Your Majesty? Or would you like me to elaborate further?" Peaches was satisfied with her answer, but if Shinrai wanted to play hardball she would play it back. She would answer anything he threw at her.
Well, almost anything. She wasn't about to spill secrets.

Rai gave a low laugh at her quips; with her swift wit no wonder she'd made it into the Courts. Serafino liked, though that was a rather strong word for the word, anyone that could keep him entertained. She seemed very good at finding and playing towards her audience.
"I suppose it will do for now," he replied with the same laughter as before. Still, amusement only went so far and grey-green eyes were still carefully keeping watch. He turned her own question back around at her instead of simply drilling her for answers. She would certainly keep her tongue in check no matter wot he said; it'd likely be easier on both of them if he just gave her an opportunity to tell him wotever it was she wanted to. "Wot do you wish for me to know, your Excellence?"

She smiled. He was laughing, that had to be a good sign. It didn't sound like a fake laugh either. Points for that. Then he asked that lovely question. Clever, he was trying to turn this around on her now? What a lovely challenge this was.
"I wish for you to know that I'm available for your use whenever you may need me. It would be very silly for me to come to courts and not know the people I need to serve, Your Majesty." She grinned like a Cheshire before finishing her tea in a few quick gulps. Peaches placed the cup on the tray before looking back at Shinrai. She would wait to see if he was satisfied with her answer before departing. If he wanted to utilize her skills then so be it, if he didn't want to that was fine as well. Everyone had their personal preferences.

Shinrai gave her another smile at her careful and political response. It was very careful and he found that interesting. "I shall certainly keep that in mind," he answered lightly. "I certainly look forward to utilizing your services should the need ever arise."
She finished her tea swiftly and Rai took that as a sign that she was ready to go. She didn't seem uncomfortable, though, which he kept in mind. She either truly was comfortable or simply exceedingly good at hiding her discomfort. Either could be a real plus for her.
The stallion waited a bemused moment before dismissing the woman with a small wavw of his hand. "I appreciate your introduction," he said quietly. "I'm certain we shall see each other a great deal in the future. Let me know if you need anything." He gave her another smile.

This worked out better than Peaches had even intended. She grinned happily and bowed. "Thank you, Your Majesty, it was a pleasure speaking with you," she said happily.
With her renewed cheery mood she took the tea, and the tray it belonged to, leaving Rai with his beer. She gave him another slight bow before hurrying out of the room as gracefully as she could muster. Hopefully she had made a decent first impression, though she knew it would take more than that to get along with most people in the court.
Well, he was interesting. To some degree. She wasn't about to go out of her way and stalk his bedroom life or anything. He was paranoid enough that she'd have trouble doing it anyway. He was probably one of those people who looked up every now and again when no one else did. This job was going to be fun.
