Thank you Vyn, Kitty, Satra, Tigs, and Sera! You're continued reading/new reading, fills me with bubbly joy XD;
OMG YAY! This is the chapter where you meet Brady XD; I think I told Vyn and Sera about him <3. He's my favorite NPC ever...who I've decided to have become a permenate NPC character instead of just casting him aside after this fanfiction XD. At any rate, this is where it starts getting heavy <3.
I also.....must admit....that Aliens inspired this chapter heavily >.>; and the one afterword.....I'm such a freak for that series...seriously...all the Ripley clips in the Oscars last night? Holy Crap did I scream with happy XD....Want to have Sigourney Weavers babies....
[/tangent]
Enjoy XDDDD;

Time passed by far to slow once the festivities had been cemented down. His mother had planned for them to go to his favorite park the day of his birthday, and then later they would stop by a very good bakery to get a cake to bring home. He could already envision how the day was going to go. He was going to get to the park and the first thing he was going to do was get into the small lake it possessed. Lots of children played there, and while he had no long-lasting friendships, playing some marco polo with some of the other park children seemed entertaining. At some point he would beg his mother to come in the water with him and play. He knew she wasn’t really a water person, preferring to sunbath close by when they had gone to the park in the past, but whenever he had managed to convince her the water was a good idea she just seemed to have so much fun. He smiled. He loved to see his mother happy. There was something really remarkable about her when she was. The world around them seemed brighter, and she might have glowed like an angel. Yes, on this day, his mother and he would be happy together, and then they would have cake!
However, when the day finally arrived, it was met with a great deal of disappointment. Silvanus awoke to the sounds of rain outside his window, and he could feel a wave of realization wash over him that left him only with a sigh. It was not a good day to go to the park. As if on queue, only moments later, his mother stepped into his room and sat on his bed. She looked down at him nestled in his covers, a small smile on her face and a look as if she was going to attempt to cheer him up a little bit. Silvanus gave a small, disappointed smile as if he was attempting to brush off the fact that their plans were ruined. He lifted a hand to pet his mother’s face, her favorite golden heart earrings clinking as he caressed the side of her face tenderly.
Cerynitis smiled and took his hand in hers kissing it softly and placing it on the bed, ”I’m sorry, love.”
He shook his head, ”Don’t be, mommy. Rain happens…”
She was about to say something more when a knocking could be heard at the door. Cerynitis’ eyebrows quirked, ”I wasn’t expecting anyone today…Were you sweetie?” and Silvanus just shook his head, a look of bewilderment crossing his features as well.
Without another word his mother got up off the bed to answer the door and see what the fuss was all about. Silvanus being equally curious peeled away the covers and got out of bed, rushing to the door to his room, and sticking his head out so as not to be in the way. Cerynitis walked down the hallway that lead to the front door, and Silvanus watched the silhouette of what looked to be a wolf of some sort behind the door.
He watched as she opened it, and addressed a uniformed German Shepard Avington, ”Oh, Hello Officer! Is there a problem?”
The canine barely let her finish her last question before he spoke, in a rather militaristic fashion, ”There have been orders for civilians to stay inside their houses today if at all possible. If they need to go elsewhere, an Officer must escort them. There is a curfew for everyone at precisely 8:00pm. Is this understood?”
Silvanus’ eyes furrowed slightly with worry. This certainly couldn’t be anything good. He watched his mother shake her head a bit, as if what the officer said was all too much to take in at once. Silvanus couldn’t blame her, he was feeling a bit confused as well.
”Wait…what happened to create such a high alert, Sir?”
The officer seemed to lighten up a little, his features still tense, but no longer was he like a machine. He looked around behind him, before looking back at Silvanus’ mother. ”We have reason to believe that he is in town.”
”Him??? What reasons…”
”The carcass of a Jack Rabbit was found not far from here earlier this morning. He was found not unlike past victims, insides devoured, ribs pulled outward…well…I won’t get into the gruesomer details, ma’am, but we are sure it has to be him.”
”A Jack Rabbit? What has this neighborhood come to?” She said rubbing her forehead.
”Rabbits seem to be the least of our worries at the present.”
”Yes, yes…of course…I just…am shocked.”
”We all are, ma’am.”
”Thank you Officer, I’ll be sure to keep me and my boy inside…”
”Please, call me Brady, ma’am. I’m the Officer posted to your house, there is one at everyone’s so please don’t worry about friends or family. We are here to make sure no one gets hurt. If the bastard gets anywhere near here, we’ll kill him.”
Cerynitis nodded, her hand over her mouth as she absorbed the magnitude of the situation, ”Thank you, Brady. My name is Cerynitis…and my son is Silvanus. If you need water, anything….just…knock on the door and one of us will bring it to you.” With a nod between them both, she closed the door with both hands slowly, before placing a hand over her forehead, as if to check if she had a fever, that or to keep her brains from spilling all over the place.
Silvanus moved himself into the hall, so that he was standing in front of his mother a few feet away. ”Who is he?” he asked with a worried expression.
His mother looked up and at him, surprise evident from how wide her eyes were. She hadn’t expected him to be listening at the door of his room. She regained composure and smiled, but Silvanus wasn’t fooled. It was one of those forced composures that he had seen his mother put on in the past. She smiled as she walked down the hall to him, sweeping him up off his two feet quickly, and entering into his room.
”I’m sorry, Silv-hunny. It seems like we wont be able to go out today at all. Don’t worry though, I’ll make you a cake and we can…”
”Who is he?” he asked again, this time with a bit of a demanding tone.
From what he had heard the officer say, this unnamed man was extremely dangerous, and he had never once heard of him before. Who was this person who had put such a look on the officers face…and his own mother’s? Her face contorted into a grimace, the edges of her mouth twitching slightly before she laid him in the bed, and tucked him in again. Silvanus waited as patiently as he could for an answer, face the essence of stern.
”He’s a Monster.” she said finally, in a voice just below a whisper, as if she could sense he was around, and didn’t want him to know they were there.
It didn’t really answer Silvanus’ question, though it didn’t take an empath to feel the waves of fear radiating off of his mother. It made his eyes go wide, and clutch the sheets of the bed like a shield. His mother, such a strong woman, scared of something that shouldn’t exist.
”But…Mommy…You always said there were no monsters, no real ones. But there are?”
She slowly nodded.
”Why do they tell little kids that?” his voice shook slightly, he felt as if he had been told a lie…a lie so horrible…that it almost bordered on betrayal.
”Most of the time it’s true.”
