The cobbled streets felt far too firm under her feet, she decided after only a moment of their touching the rounded and bumpy surface. Her wings shuffled irritably as she walked slowly across the stones, glancing up at those who passed her by with eyelids colored in pale cerulean, murmuring a demure " Hello," to those who returned her gaze. It was her duty, she understood, to one day best the lot of them in the backstabbing game of court politics, and as such she felt that it was only fair to treat them kindly now. She would be high over them, and she was only too aware of the fact that the kinder she treated these people, the more they would respect her when she was high over them. It was just the way life worked, and none could avoid that sort of fate. And why, oh why, would they want to? She fluttered her wings lightly as she leapt onto the edge of the fountain, leaning in to sip from the water as she'd seen others do, eyelids sliding fully shut as the cold water flowed into her blue beak. So, this was city life, eh? If she could get used to the way those hard streets felt under her talons, it would be a pleasing place to live, she was sure. But then... This wouldn't be her section of the city, now would it? She was destined for something else: She would live in the royal court, of course, wearing a human form proudly, clothed in all the richest garments that could be offered to her. Her small and fuzzy tail hung over the edge of the fountain and swayed slowly, eyes open barely a crack as these dreams of richness filled her mind. Life was so much more interesting since she had entered the city, for sure.

"Hey! Hey! What are you doing?" Big green eyes stared up at the bright maroon-and-blue bird, his own multi-colored fur making him stand out in the city, especially considering his rather interesting breed - half feline, half deer. The fact that he was just a babe didn't seem to bother him in the least; neither did the fact that his mother was probably searching all the streets, looking for him in frustration. Idly he wondered if his siblings were sticking close, as he most certainly hadn't. Solo considered himself special out of all of his siblings - not only was he a mixed region, he was a mixed breed as well! And he was a Seven of Spades, at that; higher ranked than any of them! And now there was this particularly interesting bird, with such bright feathers and weird blue-patterned wingtips and...was that a tail? Fascinating. He wondered how she'd managed that. He didn't see any stitches holding it on like his father's was. Rising up on his hoofs, he placed his front paws on the edge of the fountain and peered at the bird curiously, head cocked to the side. "Hey! he said insistently, in case she hadn't heard him the first time around.

She shuffled her bright feathers sleepily, and then that single eye rolled fully open slowly. As the brightly-colored youth began to swim into focus, her whole head turned gracefully, letting both eyes fall upon his small and fuzzy self. She looked over him for a moment and then smiled slightly, her sleepy eyes brightening. It was clear that he was, in fact, young, though on his own... He must be about the same age as her own children, by her estimate.
"Hmmmm, what am I doing?" She looked over at him, her head inclined to the side in a slightly playful manner. She hopped a few steps towards the brightly colored mixed-breed, her fluffy tail swaying slowly from side to side. "That depends on the way you look at it. It might appear that I was being extremely lazy to some, but in actuality, I was doing some very important calculations in my mind. What are you doing, if I may ask?"
Her words and her tone, though strangely serious, were completely offset by the playful shine in her still half-lidded eyes. If it had been anyone else, she might have been irritated to be awoken, but... Children of this one's age heald a certain soft spot in her heart, she had to admit.

"Botherin' you, what's it look like?" he asked cheerfully, head cocking to the opposite side from the first, roguish grin - obviously inherited from his mother - spread across his face. His black and green tail swished cheerfully behind him as he looked up at her. Like any young thing, he hadn't had the chance to learn that all adults were not put in the world solely for his own convenience, and it looked that he might not necessarily be learning that lesson now, either.
"What sort of calc-ya-lations were you doin'?" Solo asked, breaking the word up a bit so that he didn't stumble over it at all. "Anything t'do with chemistry? Or genetics? My dad does stuff like that all the time. She's really famous, too." Ah, being the child of a certain deer with snakey attributes. He liked to bother her in her lab, because things there were always quite interesting.

"I suppose that would make sense, yes," the avian chuckled, her eyes sliding closed once more, but only for a brief moment. She listened to the little one with an interest lighting in her eyes, taking in the information easily. This made more sense, now. This little one was both mixed breed and mixed realm, and it only made sense that his father would be a Corvistownian.
"I have been doing calculations about the color of the sky." she inclines her head to look upward, the sky above them a shimmering blue where it shone through the lazily drifting clouds. "It is my professional opinion that it will be mostly gray within a few hours, and that you and I would benefit from a change in location. My name is Calia." She hops up onto her feet, grinning at the green-eyed youth.

In confusion, Solo glanced first at the sky and then at Calia, before looking up at the sky once more. Its current blue color was rather foreign to him, seeing as he spent most of his time ether in Torquehelm or in Corvistowne, where the sky was more likely than not to be clouded over at any given moment. Seeing a place where it was usually bright and clear unless there was going to be one of the infrequant rain storms was strange. Thus he finally looked back at Calia, green eyes confused.
"What's wrong with a gray sky? Should we move to be able to see it better, or something? I mean, sometimes you can see shapes in the clouds." Never the less, he dropped down to place all four feet upon the ground once more, preparing himself to follow her. Even if she flew, he was certain that he'd be able to keep up - or at least, so he told himself. He was cocky that way. "I'm Solo."
Green hooves clattered over the cobblestones, following the path of silent black paws as he stared up at the Kahmdenian bird expectantly.

The avian inclined her head skyward once more, taking note of how it was indeed growing darker the longer the two spoke, then briskly hopped down off of the stone of the fountain. She could hear the clopping of hooves, and knew that the little one had followed her suggestion and was preparing to move. Stretching one maroon and blue-speckled wing languidly, she glanced at the brightly-colored hybrid. Ah, yes... To him, the rain would indeed seem not to be a problem, but... It posed an interesting worry to her.
"Indeed, there is nothing wrong with just a gray sky, but my guess at the moment is that this sky is threatening rain... And again, there is nothing with the rain, provided that you don't have feathers." As if proving her meaning, the sparrow fluffed her feathers out, a small smile gracing her delicate beak. "The rain always gums them up awfully, then I have to spend hours just waiting to dry off.. It is a pleasure to meet you, Solo."
At his expectant stare, the sparrow began to walk. She was not fast at it, but she felt it would be rude to take to the air and leave the little one behind, so she would do her best to make sure she moved at a reasonable speed. "Tell me, Solo, what is it that you like to do?"

"You should get fur then, instead of feathers," the deer-cat said pompously, waving his own furry tail around in demonstration. "Rain doesn't stick to fur, it just slides right off! Well, it should. Sometimes if my fur's messed up it sticks, but then all I need to do is take the time for a good grooming and I'm ready to go!" He puffed out his chest as he paced her, deliberately stretching out his legs to show that he could easily keep up with her pace.
A rumble of thunder, still quiet, broke from the rapidly-darkening clouds, and he glanced up once more. Yep, it looked like rain was most definitely on its way. Too bad they were heading somewhere dry - it was fun to play in puddles, leaping and darting around, as if he didn't have a care in the world. Because he didn't. His mother's predicament didn't even occur to him - he just figured that he'd find Maxwell after the storm was over, or after he finished his fun talk with this bird.
"You can fly if you want, you know. I can keep up with you easy! I'm a Spade, just like Dad, so running isn't a problem. Even as he spoke, he reached down into that spot within him that had the magic, ready to activate it as soon as she took to the sky. He'd follow her, as he figured she had a sense of where she wanted to go.

[ooc: Are we going to be continuing this RP? 'Cause I need at least one more post for Solo, and I'm actually rather curious as to where it'll be going. ^_^]
