Souris caught her breath, as the equine sent her an odd glance, gulping down fear as his ears flickered backwards, relief colouring her expression as he allowed her to change the subject. The mouse dropped smoothly into a low courtesy, as he gave her his name, delight suffusing her features, as she smiled her acknowledgment,"Enchanted."
She turned to Diane, and quietly requested her to fetch some drinks. Diane canted her head in acknowledgment, although she was technically Reine's handmaiden. Souris barely ranked her, and the mouse still felt acutely uncomfortable ordering around the Five, despite Reine's insistence otherwise.
Souris returned her attention to Ira as Diane darted off, just in time to catch Esme's brilliant smile. Hadn't she changed the topic? Apparently not, from the sharp look Reine threw the equine. She took a deep breath, and would have answered, if Reine hadn't stepped in.
"Indeed", the ocelot stated quietly, drawing faint cries of surprise from the ermine "Beautiful in appearance, and very deadly." For Misses Eumeleia had many such plants in their garden.

A pleased smile touched the edges of Ira’s lips and he sent the woman a searching, sidelong glance. They had equal parts of clever, these three, but they didn’t seem to be working well together. Small hints of things wrong peppered their conversation thus far. It was. . . amusing.
”One can only wonder,” the drag-dressed stallion said with no touch of irony in his voice. ”Wot else hides such secrets.” Lavender eyes darted swiftly to Souris and away again, as though he suspected the mouse of such hidden agendas.
His ears twisted as the sound of Rhea’s voice flared suddenly through the garden and he turned his head gracefully to take stock of what the woman was doing. His genetics had, at least, given him a lithe, beautiful form along with his propensity for flesh, and he had quickly picked up on the attractive movements of a predator. He turned back to the family members before him. ”It seems my dearest Aunt has need of me.”
He inclined his head to the three again, still aware of just how highly he out-ranked the group of women. ”It has been a pleasure speaking with you. I hope I have a similar opportunity when I next return.”

Souris peeked up at Ira from under her eyes, shyly, as lavender eyes glanced her way. A small smile played about her mouth. She knew that the glance belied his words. He suspected someone else. She grinned, her eyes flicking quickly to Reine, amused, as the ocelot pursed her lips thoughtfully, but said nothing.
The mouse froze momentarily, startled, as the equine turned his head with breath-taking grace towards the sound. Ah. If her Aunt Eumeleia needed her, she'd best go. She sighed wistfully, as Ira ended the conversation, drawing a disdainful look from her mother as she did so. "And you."she said warmly, courtesying easily, and low, ignoring the palatable disapproval emitting from the ermine, as she too, courtesied stiffly, followed closely by the ocelot. "Au revoir." she bade him, as her grand niece echoed her sincerely. The mouse and the ocelot would definitely await the equine's return, even if the ermine didn't.

Rhea welcomed the approach of her grand-niece with a smile. That family was certainly interesting, but she wanted the girl to mingle with members of her committees, which would likely be a more productive exercise. Her other grand-niece was currently standing at the center of a very enthusiastic group of young women, and they appeared to be chatting lightly about fashion and...dolls. Iphis could have made a charming little socialite, if nothing else; pity she hadn't been reared in the Gardens. Rhea doubted that her niece would have missed any of her children.
"Ah, Ira, good of you to come over. I'd like to introduce you to Adrienne and Celeste, who co-chair our land use and conservation committees." The two women lifted their drinks and inclined their heads in greeting. This was an easier task for the bipedal muskrat than the deer. "They have excellent resources at their disposal, and they are quite good friends of mine."

Ira moved gracefully back to his Great-Aunt Rhea, pale eyes scanning the crowd swiftly in an unconscious threat-assessment. Some he marked immediately as 'dangerous' in his mind, others fell simply to 'watch'. His relative's committee members, however, almost all immediately went into the 'dangerous' category.
Still, he smiled genuinely at the women, inclining his head very slightly and intoning formally, "Greet you." He caught the eye of a servant, summoning a drink with that mere glance then turned back to the women with that same very honest smile. "It is certainly my honour to meet such distinguished women, especially those who find the favour of my esteemed Aunt Rhea." He tilted his head down towards the woman to show his respect and pleasure.
"Land use and conservation," he murmured lightly, as though briefly lost in thought. "Wot wonderful areas to be involved in. I find myself sadly ignorant, however, on wot exactly such committees would do."

The muskrat, Adrienne, smiled indulgently. Rhea knew that she liked explaining things to people, and would likely talk for hours on end. She felt quite sorry for her grand-niece, but took this as an excellent excuse to gently extricate herself from the company of the two women--she adored Adrienne and Celeste, but they were immsensely chatty sometimes.
"I shall leave you in their capable hands for the moment," she said. She was confident that the girl could conduct herself in a charming and professional manner. Pity she didn't seem to have bigger aspirations than she did; a woman presiding over the Court of Hearts, and especially a relation of hers, would be so far past delightful that it was nearly beyond reckoning. Ah, well; her niece had other girlchildren. Perhaps they were as collected and more ambitious. "It's been absolutely charming to welcome you to the Gardens."

Ira gave his great-aunt another curtsy before polite turning his attention to the muskrat. Adrienne really did talk a great deal, and the information she was passing on held only a limited interest for this particular stallion. There was another stallion, however, that would likely rejoice in not only this information, but in contacts who might be willing to help it come true. Mayne, just maybe, they had found hope for the Lowlands. -------------------------- A few days later, the 'girls' were packed up and heading back towards the Capital City. Ira waved cheerily good-bye to his lovely great-aunts, well pleased with the trip. Iphis seemed to have come through fairly unscathed and Ira knew that at least a few ladies from the Gardens would be in contact with the albino regarding dresses even if they hadn't contacted him just yet. Good, the trip was a success. He couldn't wait to tell Mommy dearest.
