A long string of curses, followed by a loud CRASH that could only be something breaking, was heard down the hallway. A few minutes later a tall bipedal ferret with dark reddish-pink fur appeared through a doorway and stared balefully down at the vase that was now sitting in pieces on the floor. She idly poked a piece with her paw, but it didn't glue itself back together, so she finally sighed and bent down to begin picking up the shards. She had it mostly cleaned up when she heard her name down the hallway; she'd noticed Osias and a Kahmden girl (how interesting, another of her kind.. Vessatha tried not to think of those implications) but hadn't taken notice until they appeared to be speaking of her.. though both had their back turned to her. Interesting. Vessatha liked to know when she was being talked about, and this incident was no exception. The ferret quickly returned the shards to the room she'd been in, then returned to the hallway, quietly shutting the door behind her. She approached Inca and Osias with no attempt to keep quiet this time, and stopped at the girl's side with an eyebrow raised, though her expression was more amused than anything. "Highness," She said to Osias with a half-curtsey in greeting. "Did I hear my name..?" She examined the girl's expression purposefully, not caring in the slightest if she'd startled the girl. If they wanted something from her, it was their own fault they hadn't done it more privately, after all.

I don't have to, I just want to. And, my dear, sometimes it's best not to ask questions.
He couldn't help but give her a grin that, had he not back it with quite a bit of old Diamond Charm, would have been rather menacing. And psychotic clown rapist actually wasn't to far from what he did, although he'd gotten truly bored with that around the time he'd gone through his Jack quest and coincidently met the one man he'd decided to be completely monogamous with. He did delight in something a little.... worse now.
His ears twitched at the crash and he turned his head to peer over the back of the chair and down the dark hallway, but he didn't see anything initially and thus held no real concern, it was probably just a clumsy servant after all.
Well, for a Jack's Quest you'd be needing to make an appointment with... Varestes.
He tried so very hard to put all the contempt he felt into the other King's name, which he was successful in doing however he still knitted his brows. However, the appearance of the Kahmden ferret was a mighty good distraction, unexpected but good none the less. His expression shifted to one of mild pleasure as he gave the ferret a crooked little smirk.
Ah, Vessatha, just the woman I was about to look for. I believe I've got an extra set of hands for you here in dear miss Inca, she gets my personal stamp of approval.
He hadn't really spent any time with the Ferret Jack, so he wasn't sure where they stood but he was well aware of the fact that just how picky and particular he was was well known in the palace. Surely she who lorded over the servants knew he was a hard man to please? Well, either way, he had a small hope that she'd enjoy the doe as much as he had.

Her ears flattened a little at his comment and his grin. Oh dear... maybe she really shouldn't have poked around that one, now her mind was working in strange ways. He certainly didn't act in any unproper way around her, but still... while first impressions were good, they often told little of someone's true nature. But she respected that... whatever practices he held outside the court, he kept them to himself... and outside of the court.
"Varestes? I'll remember that name." She perked a bit at this, though she noted a bit of a strange tone to Osias' voice when he said that name... perhaps they were on bad terms for some reason or other. Once again, it wasn't her concern, so long as he wasn't out to harm her, this Varestes was just a good a thing to her as anyone else who would pass her into Jackhood should she earn it. When she earned it, rather. Suddenly her heart was really set on this.
At the appearance of the ferret, she didn't jump, but she did freeze up ever so slightly until she could glance up at the woman. Phew, she seemed to have a kind enough demeanour. Just what Inca liked to be around. If she was any bit as entertaining as Osias, then this would end up being a good day to rival many good days. Making connections was all good and fun, but making interesting connections was special.
"A pleasure to meet you, your Excellence. I can assure you all things said about you were good, well, more neutrally informative than good, but certainly not bad." She smiled and glanced back at the rat as he spoke, it seemed like she'd be jumping right into things if the ferret respected Osias' opinion. Which, she expected, she just might. The 'stamp of approval' made her grin and she shook her head, what a crazy day this was turning out to be. She'd merely wanted to investigate and had ended up somehow impressing the most particular King she could have stumbled across. Strange days indeed.

"Oh?" The ferret replied, not sardonically in the least. Oh no. The personal stamp of Osias held so much worth in her mind, yes, yes it did..
Vessatha couldn't help but want to interrogate the girl after that statement of loyalty, and Inca's words didn't help in the slightest. Osias likely had little to say about her, as they knew each other only in passing, so for the girl to assume things.. well, it was mildly annoying, but easily dealt with.
"You want a position? Can you cook, clean, sew, work with people? Do you expect to live here or are you willing to commute? Have you any previous experience? Where would you prefer to work? Do you know anyone else that works here?" The ferret shot questions at the girl, barely waiting for a reply before she asked another. Her tone wasn't rude, but it was quite obvious she took her job very seriously--and she was hardly about to hire Inca on the spot based on one reccomendation.. especially Osias'. Varestes', perhaps, she might have, but Osias held quite a bit less of a reputation in her mind.

She could tell by the woman's tone, she was... less than impressed. But, she assumed that Osias would probably be a little bit of an outsider considering his disposition. It didn't matter much to her, so long as she could prove herself independantly from his opinion. And hopefully she could. Her rank was probably concerning enough as it was, but she was really going to start upping that as soon as possible if the ferret gave her a chance.
"I love to cook, I cleaned up after my five siblings for Years, I don't know how to sew sadly... and I'm used to being around a lot of people and working together with them." She paused, stuttering, trying to remember the last question that had been asked before continuing and trying to remember the one after that..
"I can do either, my home isn't um, too far away... This is my first time being in a court of any kind since my mother took myself and my brother to meet his Majesty Serafino for the protective necklace I'm wearing that he has a similar one of as wel- I would prefer to work anywhere I am most useful... I only know briefly yourself, His Highness Osias, and His Majesty Morpheus." She took in a big breath of air that rattled her chest and tried to hide the nervous flush which had claimed her cheeks. Normally she was excellent at keeping her cool, but that had been.... rather unexpected.

Vessatha was somewhat appeased that the girl began flailing as soon as she started firing questions at her. It was never a good sign when they kept their cocky attitude, especially when they were asking for a job essentially out of the blue. Vessa really preferred to find her own workers--that way she knew where they were coming from--but was willing to give the girl a chance.
She listened attentively to the girl's scrambling, rambling speech, able to keep up with it for the most part--the occasional stuttering was disconnecting and hard to follow, though. Once she'd finished, Vessie gave her a moment to catch her breath before she responded. "I have several chef spots open, but if you want that job, you're going to have to prove just how well you cook. There are always jobs open as servers, maids, and jobs of that sort, but if you were looking for a spot as a personal maid you'll have to be interviewed by the court member in question as well as myself. Not to mention that job is more desirable, and there are less positions open." She paused, and tilted her head.
"You've been to the Court of Hearts?" Vessatha inquired. It struck her as unusual, that a seven of spades had been taken to the court of hearts.. by her mother? To get a protective necklace from Queen Serafino? Who was this child's mother, anyways? She was curious, but wasn't about to ask. Lineage meant nothing when you were looking to work IN the courts, not FOR the courts.
After her reply, Vessatha shrugged, and continued. "You can live here if you'd prefer, and it may be required depending on what job you end up with. As for King Osias and Queen Morpheus.. as much as they are honored nobles here, they are Diamonds... and do not count for that question." She'd actually meant any of the other servants, but didn't feel like correcting her, as the girl was flustered enough as it was.

He listened briefly to the questioning the ferret was giving and took the time to retrieve and devour another muffin while he did. He was curious as to how the ferret worked and, since she'd obviously be around for awhile in the palace, he was making mental notes about her all the while. However, this rat could only sit around and eat muffins and have merry old chats for so long before it got utterly and completely dull. The conversation didn't involve him at all and he had no real cares as to what the ferret decided to do with the Doe. And not to mention he had things that were far more... appeasing to be doing. Thus he had to interject a quick parting speech, he figured it'd be 'good manners' to do so.
Vessatha, I'm going to be going. Should anything come up while I'm gone Morpheus will know how to reach me. I should only be gone a few days this time.
His words were pleasant enough, but his face didn't really reflect it. He had to begin slipping into game mode now. He stood up, nodding to each in turn before heading down the hallway in the same direction his son had gone, he needed to retrieve a certain jacket of his and then he'd be slipping out his personal exit. He'd be entirely absent from the palace for the next three days as well.

She blinked a bit in consideration, having no idea of what each job would entail. The personal maid sounded really good, as it would give her a chance to get closer to another court royal, good things for when she made her entrance into the courts. Though it might be awkward, going from maid to Jack or King and such, but she assumed the connections would be worth being remembered as a maid. Everyone was something less significant at some point, from what she'd gotten from Osias.
"I would love to be a personal maid, I think it would be good training for being in the courts at a later date, getting used to taking orders and such." She again was thinking, plotting out loud, but the ferret would probably be interested to know why someone of her rank was going after such a difficult to attain position. At her question, Inca smiled uneasily, knowing how many people had... mixed feelings about that court in particular.
"Yes, though I haven't been back since getting this necklace a few years back." She was lucky to be there in a time of stability before the Queen had been killed. She was kind of sad to hear the news, from what she could remember, he'd treated her mother- and herself and her brother- with extreme kindness, especially considering how they'd just dropped in without notice. Normally royals didn't take so kindly to that. Oh well.
"If I get the job I assume I will need to stay here. I hope it is not too much of a bother, I don't have many things at all so it wouldn't be too difficult for me at all." She just finished speaking before Osias politely interrupted, and she felt embarassed upon realizing that she'd accidentally ignored him when the Jack had started drilling her rather impatiently. It had taken a lot of concentration, and hopefully he wouldn't hold her actions against her.
"Thank you for your time, again, your highness." She dipped her head as he left, knowing he hadn't addressed her, but still wanting to be polite and hopefully indicate she hadn't meant to be rude by letting the ferret distract her so completely. Well, he had business to attend to anyway. Her eyes returned back to the woman hopefully, perhaps the interview wouldn't be too hard? But she was nervous at the idea of being placed with a random court official, hopefully they were as kind as everyone else she'd met if she got the job.

Vessatha nodded vaguely to Osias, not particularly interested in what he was doing or going. "See you around, Osias," Was her surprisingly friendly reply--perhaps speaking to her when she wasn't paying attention was the key?
"You really want to be a personal maid?" The ferret questioned, more than a little bit amused. The job was a lot of work--it involved a lot of cleaning and picking up after people that were used to being picked up after. A lot of the court people used their maids as assistants too, as it was easier than hiring two seperate people. "Alright then. It will take me a few days to work out where I want to place you, and you'll have to go through at least one interview for sure, possibly more. Come on, I'll get you a room to start out in."
The Kahmdener started out down the hallway immediately, her bipedal legs taking her off at a very, very fast pace. Vessatha knew it wouldn't be easy for Inca to follow her--especially with those hooves--around a large, unfamiliar palace, but truth to be told it rather amused her. The Jack led her through several twisting hallways and spiral staircases before she stopped at a doorway. "Wait here," She said, then stepped inside. A few minutes later she had a small key in her hand, and continued walking. It took them a minute before they arrived in a hallway that was all doors and no windows, and Vessatha stopped before a room. She unlocked the door and handed the key to Inca. "This isn't going to be your permanent residence, it's much too small, but it will do for the next few nights until I can get you placed. Feel free to explore the palace, and get as accostomed to it as you can, you'll need it. Kitchens are on the ground floor in the east wing, you'll have to take your meals there until you get your new rooms, these don't have a kitchen. Bathroom is at the very end of the hallway, technically you're sharing but there aren't many people here at the moment. I'll leave a note under the door when your interview is scheduled. Be ready and prompt when I send for you." The ferret spoke fast, but not as fast as she had before--she needed the doe to understand what she was saying this time.
As soon as she was sure Inca had picked up everything she turned on her heels and strode off down the hallway and down a few sets of stairs until she was in her own wing--that was also conveniently Wulfram's. The ferret stopped in front of his door and knocked politely, but loudly. "Wulfram, are you in there?"
