"Betsy I don't think you understand..." Peaches said after the woman had finished. She was doing her best to calm Peaches down, sure, but it wasn't really working. "I know my daughter better than the back of my hands, quite literally. She double checked everything, and probably checked everything three times. Fluffy comes when called, always. I personally trained her."
Peaches could feel her hands shaking. "If someone took Fluffy... and we can't get her back... oh god she'll snap like her father." It was the absolute worse case scenario but she had heard stories about the Fur Trade. Oh for the love of the regions! She hadn't thought about that until just now. "Oh lord... oh this is bad."
---
Xiven listened as she trotted besides Heilyn. Her ears briefly pinned back against her skull when she heard about Fur trading. How dare those bastards come into her court and take her Fluffy. As she looked up at Heilyn her tail was the only thing giving away her emotions. Besides that her face was a blank stare.
"If someone hurts my Fluffy I will kill them. Fur traders have no right to touch my property." She looked back down at the ground, seething at the thought. If someone had hurt Fluffy they were going to die--and hopefully she was going to kill them herself.
She perked at the mention of Seth's name. She had heard Rhi talk about her father being an assassin but she had never met the man. "I've never met him, no."

Betsy made a concerned noise and continued to hold the other woman's wrists, feeling the shaking. "It's alright, dear, it's alright... we'll find out what happened to her pet, never fear. She can't have gone too far, even if she did wander off or something worse. Now tell me, how long has she been missing? Where did you or your daughter last see her? Oh my, this is such a mess."
She clucked her tongue and let go of Peaches, taking the woman's shoulders and giving her a small shake. "Come on now, Your Excellence, it's not like you to throw yourself into a tizzy like this. Calm down, take a deep breath, and then we can figure out what to do. Letting yourself get in this state isn't going to help anyone do anything, least of all find your girl's missing kitten. Get a hold of yourself and then we'll go talk to someone who might be able to help. I know His Majesty and His Highness Bernard are both busy tonight and aren't available, but we can always go see Dymphna. If there's anyone who knows anything around here, it's that girl. She's a bright young thing."

As it turned out, for what was likely the first time in the man's life since he had become a father, Seth was completely sober. He was laying on the bed in his small quarters, staring at the ceiling and trying not to think about his daughter. Where had they gone wrong in raising her? Was this all his fault? He didn't even want to think about his son, little madman that the boy was. At least he wasn't dangerous to those around him, only to himself. Seth was jolted out of his musings by Heilyn's call, and swung forward, suddenly alert. What had remained of his thoughts vanished in an instant and he growled to himself as he jumped out of the bed. When had he become so pussywhipped?! And by a Heart, none the less? As it was, the bat didn't want to face Heilyn's likely anger if he wasn't quick to answer her call, and stepped through the door that connected their rooms. " Is there something the matter, my cherryblossom?[/b]" he asked, expression the picture of innocence. " Has my darling son gotten his head stuck in a fence agai- Oh.[/b]" he froze mid-sentince as his eyes fell on the feline in the room, expression turning to one of curiosity. " I'm sorry, Miss,[/b]" he said, giving the cat a small bow. Torque, Queen... He wondered to himself if this was the one who his charming daughter had so thouroughly latched onto. Poor girl. But if this was really her... Then where was Fluffy? Seth hadn't been able to get his daughter to shut up about the Ace! " I, uh, didn't know you were there. Is there a problem?[/b]" he glanced up at Heilyn, brow quirked slightly.

Her expression remained neutral, save for the slight blush that betrayed her. She hated to admit it, but she enjoyed that stupid little pet name... even if he was using it in such a mock-innocent way. He got back at her in his own way for keeping him whipped.
"Not today, I'm afraid. I think the boy actually learned his lesson this time," she rolled her eyes. Honestly, where did they go wrong with those kids? Heilyn pushed aside the constantly growing fear that is was her fault in that they had inherited the characteristic Bog Crazy-- "Seth, this is Xiven. Xiven, Seth." She let Xiven in the rest of the way before closing the door.
"Fluffy is missing and Xiven has claimed to have looked everywhere for her. Considering her love for her pet, I believe her in this. You and I both know of the sudden rise in Ace kidnappings and rumors of the Fur trade. I want you to go with Xiven to look for Fluffy, in the possibility of a worse-case scenario.
"If, of course, this arrangement appeals to you, Xiven? If not, I will assist in anyway you see fit," she noded at the young Queen. She should at least feel safe in the care of the bulky Solandrian that someone like Heilyn had seen fit to hire as a bodyguard.

Peaches stared blankly at the feline in front of her. Did she really understand the severity of this issue? Did she really understand what was going on? If Fluffy wasn't found the world would probably end for some unfortunate person who happened to be in Xiven's way. She didn't like the idea of her daughter being so angry, but it happened.
One of Peaches' arms twitched in protest. All right. She did need to calm down but talking wasn't going to do much. "I know you can never understand... but please trust me on this one, the matter isn't so simple as Fluffy being lost. Bad things are going to happen if I don't find her. I don't care who I have to go to if you can think of anyone I would be grateful." But it wouldn't help. She knew it wouldn't it just... oh this was such a horrible mess.
--
Xiven's ears flickered back at the pet name thrown across the room. That was... so terribly nice. She let that thought drop as she continued to listen to the conversation unfolding. Heilyn was refreshingly straight forward.
"It sounds like a fantastic plan to me. Loaning your bodyguard to me should be enough, I hope." Xiven said with a firm nod. She figured if the bat was good enough for Heilyn--who was notorious for being paranoid--then he was obviously a damn good bodyguard. And apparently more, but that was for another time.
"I have to wonder though, Seth, do you happen to have any connections that could help us in the process of finding my pet, Fluffy." It was a long shot but, weren't bodyguards supposed to have shady connections.

Betsy nodded and took the poor woman's hand, leading her off down the hall towards the Morganberry doe's room. She hated to get everyone riled up over this, she really did, but sometimes these kinds of things just couldn't be helped.
At least Dymphna would show the proper concern and help the woman figure out a way to settle her daughter, if nothing else. The fluffy Selkie cat was quite tired, having been up since the crack of dawn that morning, and usually tried to be in bed by no later than ten. The doe would remember that and probably dismiss her for the night. That was all she wanted.

The first thing that came to Fluffy's groggy mind as she slowly swam to consciousness was that her head hurt. It felt thick, almost, like there was a haze around it and she had to fight to get any thoughts through. It was a strange feeling, unfamiliar, and she didn't like it at all. "Xiven?" she whimpered, hoping her owner would be nearby to answer. Maybe she was just having a bad dream and the Torquehelm feline would wake her up.
After a moment, her ears twitched and began recognizing noises around her. All of them were quiet, coughs and shuffling, but then the place started to feel weird. It was a little bit chillier than she would have expected from her room in the palace. Also, there shouldn't have been anyone coughing except her owner, and those definitely weren't Xiven-noises. They didn't sound right at all.
One dark purple eye slitted to a crack, but then flew wide open with its double when she didn't see anything she was expecting to see. Cages. And dark. And people. Where was she?!
A small torch flickered on one wall, casting meager light. With her feline sight, it was enough to illuminate the room. There were maybe seven or eight cages, three of them filled besides her own. She sat up slowly, looking around, and caught the eye of the person nearest her, an Avington ferret with an amazingly pretty tree down their long back. They were staring, so it wasn't hard. "Meer?" she queried hopefully. If she was 'pet' enough, would they take her back where she belonged?
But no, they were very much inside a cage too. When she looked closer, she could see a dark black 'A' on their chest. Then they opened their mouth and drooled a little bit. She recoiled in surprise and a little bit of disgust. Eww. Who did that, really? "Meer? Hello?" she tried again, daring a little speech even though her owner wasn't present. She got back a guttural throat-noise and shuddered.

[I'm going to rearrange the posting order since I assume that Seth would want a lead to go one for his next action?]
Heilyn took a breath in. She knew of a place that she escaped to to get away from the Court. A place no one would think to look for her. A place not even Seth know about. She didn't want to reveal her secret hiding spot, but this was more important, unfortunately. In reality, this was really a breach of the Heart's Court security. If illegal fur trade had connections within the palace, who else...?
"Actually," Heilyn piped up, "I have a lead that could possibly help us." She walked over to a table where her wallet sat and checked inside it then pocketed it. "There's a man who owns a bar in the Highlands not too far from here who is involved with the legal side of the Fur Trade as a... hobby," she tried to keep her usual calm, neutral demeanor, but she couldn't help but display a touch of disgust at the thought of something like this being not only legal, but someone's hobby. "Like a side job. We could go and I could press him a little further if he hasn't been completely honest with me. See if he knows anything about the illegal trade," she offered, leaning against her table. A smirk pulled at the edge of her lips.
"How would you like your first tour of a seedy bar, Xiven?"

The conversation in the courts had the irritating tendancy to move far faster than the poor bat was used to. "A pleasure, Xiven.[/b]" he muttered, giving Lyn a glance as he was volunteered. He had no problem with it, of course, but he felt somewhat wary all the same. After all, he had helped freeze Aces to death in the Glacier when he was younger... But this was different. This Fluffy was a loved pet, and more importantly, owned by a friend of Heilyn.
And Heilyn had entrusted him with this task. That, more than anything else, had to count for something. Seth made a little promise to himself - He would find this girl and bring her back home alive.
Then Heilyn would really see how much he was worth.
Seth began to answer the young Queen's question, but Heilyn managed to quite successfully cut him off. Where normally he might have been put off by this, he instead was quite grateful. He hadn't had even the slightest idea of where they could have started their little quest, but the coyote proved to be full of surprises. As he listened, he set about gathering a few things - a flask and waterskin, a small moneybag, and a pair of glittering and deadly-looking katars - then sat back on the bed.
"I'm guessing my job will be to make sure that he is honest with us, hmm?[/b]" the man asked, red eyes glinting slightly as he ran a finger across the handle of the weapons almost as he was touching a lover. The promise of a fight was hanging heavy in the air, and the Solandrian simply couldn't ignore it.

Peaches was still unsure of the entire ordeal. She had no idea what to do though. Who could help in the case of a missing pet. Fluffy was indeed and Ace, but it was amazing what a pet was capable of. Crap. Complications. Without much complaints she let herself be led to Dymphna. Suits only knew what she could do.
--
Xiven's ears perked. Well now. That was an interesting turn of events. That made everything so much easier. In fact, things didn't seem completely hopeless. There was a bright side! Sort of!
"I'm sure going to a seedy bar with you is better than going to a seedy bar with my mother." Xiven snorted. That was something she never wanted to repeat. "And I'm more than willing to subject myself to a bar if it means finding Fluffy. And I imagine if you take part in the legal side of fur trading you know the illegal side as well. It is..."
She refrained from finishing the sentence. Disgusting. Inhumane. The words didn't quite fit the bill. Aces weren't people, but that didn't mean you had to skin them. She visibly shuddered at the thought of someone doing that to Fluffy. No. That wasn't going to happen. "We'll be leaving as soon as possible, correct?"
