Lior shivered as the bird just barely avoided saying his father's name. He could feel it on the tip of his tongue and really, really didn't want to hear it. Eilwyn's own family was probably a far safer subject. "If she was in the Courts recently, I might have met or heard about her, seeing as I lived there most of my life."
He was going to say more, partly in effort to ignore the good smells of the meal being wafted his way, when a horribly familiar green and white swirled form slithered into view. He froze, eyes wide as saucers. "Vi- Viola," he said in a tight, panicked voice, almost but not quite a question. No, no! He couldn't deal with family, not any sort of family, not right now. Not looking like this, with what he'd become, who he'd become. The curse...
No. He shuddered and stood, preparing to bolt. He could fly with the cloak on, short distances only and with a great deal of difficulty.

Viola's eyes widened. So it really was Lior! What had happened to him to make him so.... so different? What on earth did Linda say to him to make him go off and end up like that? And he was going to go just after she got a chance to see him.
The snake deer wasn't happy about that. "D-don't go Lior!" She whimpered, her voice was choking up. Of course she was going to burst into tears, how could she not? She hadn't seen Lior in forever and he was just going to run away. He must hate her too! "Liorrrrr," she whimpered through a flood of tears. She was balling.
Eilwyn was at a complete loss. He was never good when someone was crying, unless it was Asha. He understood his little sister, but this was completely out of his league. Feeling painfully awkward he glanced over at Lior. Please don't leave.

Lior whimpered when she started to wail. He really did love his sisters and Vio was always such a sweetheart, but right now there was no way he could stay here, not with her and especially not with her crying. He didn't know what to do besides run. And so he did.
Large wings unfurled, wings that wouldn't previously have properly supported his weight in flight. He'd only ever been able to fly and glide short distances. Now he was skinny enough to actually manage, even encumbered by his cloak. She would no doubt notice the odd black swirls that covered his golden wing-sails. "I'm sorry, Vio," he said in a half-pleading tone, willing her not to cry, and when that didn't work he leapt from the fountain's edge to get a running start and flew off to go hide.
Maybe it was finally time to leave the city. He thought it was.

Eilwyn watched as Lior flew off, filled with regret. What exactly was he running from? Sure the girl was crying but from the looks of it they were close and.... when it came to friends in family, leaving them in pain was a horrible thing to do.
Viola wasn't about to stop her flood of tears, her crying only grew worse when she saw Lior fly away. Why was he doing this? Did he really hate her? Sorry?! He wasn't sorry! As she choked she felt someone pat her on the head. She looked up through her tear filled eyes to see a Highlander. Oh right, Lior had been sitting next to someone. How nice of him to comfort someone he didn't even know. And it was good of him not to say anything about her breaking down into tears.
Eilwyn felt painfully awkward, but he couldn't just let the poor girl sit there and cry.
Well. This certainly was an interesting day for chance meetings.
