The girls at the exit knew a potential customer when they saw one, and the fighter who represented Pinkbeard would certainly want a night on the town after this one. The next 'rounds' wouldn't be until tomorrow, with a full night for everyone to place bets. The championships were always three-day affairs of madness and debauchery - the best sport around for locals. A few of them followed the rat where he was off to when he gave them a triumphant grin and a leer, leading them to a small side-building next to the arena with two stories and a great deal of activity. For him, the day was over and moderated celebration would begin. He had to be in fighting form tomorrow.
Into the building and towards the back room, he led the girls on with laughing banter and lewd comments, pinching a few of them when he could reach and still walk. They seemed quite receptive and eventually arrived in a smoky room with half-drawn windows that was dominated by a large desk. Behind that sat a large man, a canine who looked like a pug with a few extra pounds, smoking a pipe. He grinned widely when the fighter entered the room, and laughed when he saw the women following. "A small coin advance," he agreed without the man saying anything. "Stay in your right mind for tomorrow, Tris."

Zuberi followed the gaggle, blending in well enough... or as much as she needed to. She was keen though, to allow the more eager females to surge in front of her to attract the rat's affections, saving her own hind end from those hearty slaps he was giving out in earnest.
Finally they entered a main room, and Zuberi's gaze took in the sights of the room through the smoky haze. The portly pug wasn't hard to find, and she could only assume that he was the manager she was looking for. It might have been a bit.. obvious she wasn't like the other girls, but so eager to talk with the man she really couldn't keep up that.. ridiculous act of giggling and flirting.
She hardly thought the rat was paying her much mind anyways, and she slid away from the gaggle to approach the smoking pug. "Would I be too audacious to assume you're the brains of the operation, sir? I was hoping to speak to the fighter's manager.. Would that be you?"

The manager hadn't initially been paying attention to the different women and their mannerisms, only to his fighter, but he stared in surprise as the young squirrel moved her way to the foreground and approached him directly. He peered over at her in surprise, the rat not even noticing as he'd turned from the room to head towards his boss's secretary for the money to procure some fine company for the night. The pipe came out of his mouth and he tapped it absently against his chair arm before addressing her.
"Well now, yes, I would be the 'brains' of the operation, if by operation you mean that lug's time in the ring. Who might you be? You certainly don't look like my usual annoyances." He was curious and surprised, not yet worried or annoyed enough to call anyone in. If she'd taken the trouble to sneak her way in, he would be curious enough to hear what she had to say.

"Zuberi, sir." She introduced herself almost professionally, only her smile contradicting what might have sounded too distant to be friendly. Seeing his surprise, and even a bit of what she construed as intruige, she took it upon herself to sit down on a punching bag that was on the ground in front of him. "I'm actually a fan of Pinkbeard.. or rather I be meaning the original one. The pirate."
How silly it must have been coming to a man about such things. She half expected to be met with laughter at that comment. Blubbering on though, she wouldn't give him a chance until she was finished with what she had to say. "I'm just curious, why the name Pinkbeard? Was it from some sort of inspiration? Are you a fan of the pirate yourself?" Hah! Now she was sounding like some probing journalist. Trying not to completely scare the man off, she did her best to give a winning smile.

Pretty young thing. The man found it half-amusing and half-disappointing that she was apparently so different from the normal women who made their way in and out of his office. They were usually either whores or frigid bitches who wanted nothing but to get down to business. Was she a tourist of some sort, not to the region but to its legends? An odd concept, but he'd heard of stranger.
"Ah, well, I'm a fan of the original myself. You seem new to the ring, or at least to its history. The older, most reputable titles have been passing themselves along for a few hundred years now, Pinkbeard being one of them." He gaged her expression and saw no threat, only interest. In a very good mood from the outcome of the first round and also curious where she was going with these questions, he decided to indulge her a bit more. "The last manager trained me and I took the job at his passing almost twenty years ago. The fighters come and go, but we're the ones that really keep the operation alive and such a success."

Now things were getting interesting! Resting her head in her paws, she smiled broadly as she listened to him talk. He was right; she didn't know much about the ring, but if it had anything to do with Pinkbeard she wanted to hear about it. "Sounds like quite a legacy." Zuberi said quite honestly, regarding the pug with a most interested look.
Of course, she still had questions. "But you say this name has been passed down for so long... Was Pinkbeard himself a fighter? I'd assume he might have started the name, it being his and all.. but still that be an assumption.." In a way she hoped he had been the first. It seemed.. inexcusable that someone else would steal his name otherwise. If he'd started it.. then at least it would have been a legacy he'd created himself. Then again, one could only hope for such a romantic notion. Her hoping didn't necessarily make it so.

It was oddly nice to have interest in the arena's past, not just its present and future, especially when the questions came from a pretty young thing like her. "Oh yes, and it's a legacy I take pride in upholding. Legend says that the original Pinkbeard was the first to fight in the ring, the arena's original incarnation, though of course that's just folklore and superstition." He tapped his pipe against the side of his chair, expression amused but guarded. "That was before managers came along, see. A few years after things started up, some of the combatants wanted to leave for various reasons but didn't want the fame they'd gained through their names lost. Whether they were actually the originals to hold their own names, well, that's debatable. Someone might know."
He smirked and sat up a little straighter. "Why the interest, though, if you don't mind my asking? Seems an awful lot of trouble to go through, coming here and finding your way in to pepper me with questions if you don't know all that much about it to begin with to bring you here."

Yes, just folklore and superstition... To most. It was debatable whether a successful pirate would even dabble in things that got his face crushed in. "I think he was. I'd think he'd have come after anyone taking his good name without his permission. I'd bet he'd even rise from his grave if he had to." Zuberi grinned. She certainly sounded... naive, even to herself. Still, the notion of Pinkbeard's exaggerated escapades were amusing and novel in her opinion and was worth saying even in a comical manner. Pinkbeard rising from the dead.. that would certainly be a great thing to happen.
At his other question, she feigned coyness. Her gaze drifted off and she smiled gently, a handpaw coming up to shyly touch her face. Sometimes it was almost too obvious what an innocent virgin she was. "It's a terrible plight that the only man for me lived so long before I was born."

The manager was more than amused at her evident naivety, but also rather charmed. Wasn't she just a cute little thing. She was probably a lot younger than she looked, to be speaking with such blatant idealism and longing. Still, something she said caught his attention and he tilted his head in the way of canines, watching her for a moment.
"Tell me, Miss, what are you meaning by something left behind? That's a rather ambiguous statement. Are you some sort of treasure hunter, or historian, or... what? Those are the only things that come immediately to mind." He fingered the smooth wood of his pipe and continued to pay close attention to her expressions. "And the arena seems a mighty strange place to end up if you're looking for such things, especially if you hadn't been aware of the local history and stories before arriving."
