”That depends entirely on wot sort of information you want,” Shinrai answered easily. Light, it was like his tongue had a mind of its own tonight! Maybe he –had- had too many drinks. Still, he took another sip of the frothy drink before him. Almost out of the beer. Blast.
Nevertheless, he continued on with little hesitation. ”For instance, the meerkat in the corner is looking for someone to have a fling with. She wants to hurt her boyfriend.” He didn’t even turn in the direction he was talking about. ”The bear is searching for the lynx that deflowered his sister and will probably track that worthy down in the next 30 minutes; the lynx has been bragging about it on the other side of the room for the last hour.” Rai gave a small shrug. It didn’t help with the information –he- was searching for, but…Honestly, he didn’t actually expect to find much of anything here; not so far from home. If anything he’d need to find a lead here, though; he certainly wasn’t welcome in the Lowlands, even if he could stomach the thought of going to such a disgusting and lowly place.
He eyed the bitter again after he drained the last of his beer. Blast. He nosed the empty glass before him thoughtfully, however, before making a decision as to whether or not he should pursue the new drink.

Minh had made her way through three Appletinis’ when, for the sake of variety, she decided to try something a little different. The resulting Coke’n’Rum was just a little too different; and she ordered another Appletini just to get the taste out of her mouth.
She went back to staring at people; the atmosphere wasn’t really conducive to reading her scientific journals, and she’d given up awhile ago. Though it wasn’t really the bar scene affecting her—she’d always prided herself on her ability to block out ambient noise, effectively ignoring everyone and everything around her (possibly even a small, nuclear explosion; though she’d never had the chance to test the theory)—it was more a matter of concentration, something which had fled very shortly after finishing her second round of booze.
Mnemosyne looked like she was doing alright for herself—the woman had made a delightful recovery after the initial brush-off. The free-flow of booze seemed to be helping, too.
And speaking of booze… She hailed a passing waiter for another round (since she didn’t have anything else better to do).

He had obviously been paying much closer attention to the other patrons of the bar than she had. She really didn't care much about her fellow bar-goers beyond their level of inebriation and a brief assessment of how easy it would be to--to put it kindly--charm them. She was mildly impressed in spite of herself, and wondered why he was paying so much attention in the first place. Just what kind of information was he after anyway?
She decided not to ask, and instead pressed the barley wine closer to him. "You can drink it, you know," she told him. "I haven't..." She grinned, widely, conspiratorially, like someone sharing an inside joke, even though she knew he would have no clue. "...poisoned it or anything."

Rai's ears flattened suddenly as a sense of foreboding swirled through him, but he couldn't quite get ahold of it to inspect. Oh, yes, he needed to cut himself off soon. His ears flicked backwards as he caught the hint of another conversation. No, still more creatures looking to get laid. He gave a small snort, taking a sip from the barley wine without thinking about it.
Immediately he gave himself a mental kick. Not that he cared about the social stigma that he now owed the canine at least some sort of real interaction (not that he hadn't just been blathering away anyway), but he'd been right; it -was- that much better than wot he'd been drinking. With a sigh and yet another twitching movement of his tail, Rai resigned himself to enjoying the better drink. Hopefully he could go back to the beer, just not right now.
One ear shot to the right and Rai murmured into the mug, "He found the lynx." He wasn't really certain why he warned the female; again, absolutely no obligation to. But a fight was sure to break out now.

Mnemosyne appreciated the heads-up, though probably for different reasons than the stallion had intended. Part of her resented what was sure to be a great imposition on her efforts to capture her drinking companion's attention in the way she wanted, but the other part of her just loved a good show and thought that perhaps she could use a fight to somehow insinuate herself further into the stallion's affections.
Failing that, the spectacle would be a hell of a lot of fun to watch.
Content, she took a small sip of the barley wine. She was pleased to note that her companion had begun to drink his share, and that he appeared to enjoy it. Good. Mnem had every intention of keeping the booze coming.
"We're in for a show, then, eh?"

Minh was deeply involved in counting cracks in the ceiling when the scuffle broke out, not five feet from her cloistered booth. It wasn’t so much the increase in volume that alerted her, though—it had more to do with the chair that went flying by her head, nearly clipping her ear in the process. And the fact that said flying object took out her latest appletini.
Well, shit.
She turned to survey the culprits—a bear and lynx, apparently fighting over a woman—and watched with a morbid sense of delight as those around the two were overcome by the billowing clouds of male testosterone. It was a mere matter of moments before other joined in the fray; and then others. Mob mentality was a gem. It really was.
Minh slinked out of her booth, flexing stiff muscles and surveyed the madness. There wasn’t much thought involved in her own jump into the brawl—she just waded it. After all, she had a drink to avenge.

Shinrai gave an almost absent-minded shrug; normally a fight would be a nice diversion to daily life, but when he was looking for information they were distracting and would change the flows of conversation for potentially hours. Blast, it might not even be worth staying around here anymore.
The horse nursed the bitter thoughtfully. It was really a nicely brewed beer. So much better than the low end swill he had been drinking over the past few months. He truly hoped he wasn’t ruined on it, though. It was so cost-efficient.
“YOU SLEPT WITH MY SISTER!” the shout rang through the bar and most of the drunks reacted with jerks towards the large bear now advancing on a suddenly frightened lynx.
“I didn’t do anything!” the cat answered, fear in his voice. He rose, looking for a way out, but the larger bear was blocking the way by. “I don’t even know your sister!”
Rai sighed and took another sip. It really was a tasty drink.

The stallion did not seem particularly enthused about the fight, but that was fine with Mnemosyne. If the event played out over the course of a couple of hours, it would give Mnem plenty of time to get a decent amount of booze--the good stuff--into her companion, and then perhaps spirit him away.
It was too late for the lynx, she thought. The poor thing was in for a sound thrashing whether he had actually slept with the giant beast's sister or no. The bear was too drunk and raging to really care who got pulverized for the crime, as long as someone did.
But something about the ensuing bar-wide brawl gave her pause. A feline, dark with a few patches of green, clawing and screeching about an appletini.
Minh.
Oh dear. Well, then. Nothing to do for her, really. Except pretend she didn't know her. Which Mnem had every intention of doing.
"Just have another drink and enjoy," she told the stallion, eye on the brawl. She managed to wave over the waitress, who looked utterly terrified, and quite like she would love nothing more than to crawl under a table and spend the rest of the night whimpering quietly into her tacky outfit. No such luck. "More barley wine, thank you kindly."

Shinrai sipped his beer and decided that he had just slipped into some type of apathy. As long as the fight stayed the snot away from him, everything was hunky-dory. With no conversation topics forthcoming from his snarky companion, Rai remained silent, lost in thought and contemplation.
The fight really began behind them with attempts at peace made by other patrons and wot could only be assumed were the bouncers. But stopping that huge ball of angry fur wasn’t going to happen easily and soon there was the distinct crack of a table breaking. One of Rai’s ears flicked backwards but he simply took another sip of his drink.
”You’d be better searching for company elsewhere,” the horse pointed out suddenly, at the very least so she would know he still preferred solitude. He saw no reason to push himself to be friendly to her, especially since there was still a very real chance he was ruined for the cheap beers.

"Probably," she said, "but I rarely do what's better for me."
And speaking of not doing what was better for her--she was feeling a very slight compulsion to extricate Minh from the brawl she had gotten herself in to. No doubt the feline could take care of herself well in most circumstances, but she was not acquitting herself well in a mass of drunken, angry bruisers.
She sighed heavily, and tried to twist this into something that could benefit her. She smiled mischievously at the stallion next to her. "I have an idea," she told him. "Have another drink or two, and then you and I are going to have a good deal of fun."
