Silvanus slowly and quietly continued to sip at his tea as Dymphna spoke, blue eyes intent upon her, giving her his wrapped attention. Silvanus didn't really understand the need to be in hustle and bustle as much as Dymphna seemed to. Sure, it was nice to be really busy sometimes, but Silvanus was much more happy with his leisure time. It all came back to his love of exploration. Being able to sit and watch the sun set on a particularly beautiful region was something he enjoyed tramendously, and he couldn't imagine hed have time for that with the damanding nature the courts seemed to have. But then again...he didn't really have time for that kind of stuff nowadays anyway...
"Ah...a human form, thats very ambitious, though I reckon that you have enough to achieve that goal. I had thought about getting a human form myself at one point. Magical training sounds like it could be a great deal of fun, though...I've never been to good at magic myself. Maybe it's my rank, but I've come to believe I just don't have the knack for it." he said with a bit of a smile, taking another sip of tea that he nearly choked on when he heard her next question. His smile faltered visibly and he cursed himself before plastering it right back on. "Well, to be honest, the last few weeks have....proven to be less then favorible." he hoped she wouldn't pry to much. He really liked Dymphna, and he doubted she would really think nicely of him after telling her that he had made two ladies pregnant. Their relationship was far to shallow to withstand news like that, though...if they ever got serious...and if it ever got to that point, he could sure as hell insure her children. He had to stifle a bitter laugh.

Her entire young life in Morganberry and the Range had left Dymphna with the uncompromising need to always strive for betterment, to show everyone that she was worthwhile on her own merits, to prove herself despite the blatant favoritism and sometimes-neglect of her parents. She simply wouldn't know what to do with herself if she wasn't in the middle of things, especially not now after learning so much about running a kingdom and political games. They fascinated her like nothing else.
"Magic's always more rewarding when you have someone you like to practice with," the doe reflected with a smile. She wouldn't have developed the interest she did if not for the gentle nudging and tutelage of the Highland King. He was always so willing to help and interested in her progress, however small her talent.
She caught the hesitation before he spoke and saw his expression fall before he brought it back, the expression less natural and more forced. How could she not have noticed? Still, she was far too much a lady to pry into what he obviously decided wasn't her business, nor a suitable topic of conversation. He would have continued of his own volition if he thought otherwise. Silvanus didn't seem the type of man to want prompting and curiosity to bring out his troubles. Perhaps she was wrong, but that's how she read him.
"I'm quite sorry to hear that," she said with sincere regret in her tone. "Especially with how pleasant, if busy, things have been lately for me. I shan't pry, but tell me... do the next few weeks look any better for you? Anything you're looking forward to? The Harvest Festival is on its way in another month or so."

Silvanus couldn't help but have a tinge of jealousy as he saw the Dymphna's face light up when mentioning having good company to practice magic with. He worked hard to hide the feeling from appearing on his face however, after all, Dymphna and he were nothing but friends even if he wished them to be something more. She had more then just the right to think fondly of other people. "Hmmm, I never thought about it that way, never really had much of a teacher I suppose. Who is it that you practice with?" he asked casually, hoping that a woman's name would be given in responce. Though, who is to assume that Dymphna was only interested in men...if interested at all? She appeared to like him...but well...its quite possible that she could be bi...or more? Silvanus wasn't against those who were homosexual...but...gosh...what a waste of a beautiful doe that would be if she was. He shook the thought of it from his mind. He was being rediculous.
He was sorry he had not been a little more poker faced before. Dymphna seemed to pick up that he was upset, but thankfully also picked up that he didn't want to be questioned, but maybe it was a natural responce of those in the court...not to pry into buisness that is best left unpryed. "Ah, no need for appologies," he said waving a hand before taking a sip of tea and setting down the cup for a moment. "To be honest, the next few weeks look a bit rocky, but...I'll find a way." he said no more on that subject, not wanting to give her any clues to anything, and fearing he would blab if he kept talking about it. Though he was confronted with another part of the question that he had to answer. "I don't really have anything I'm particularly looking forward to, really, not even the Festival. I don't really have...anyone to celebrate with. I've had some...unfortunate 'falling outs' lately." he knew he had said to much...and hoped that if she asked any more questions, he might be able to skirt around them a little. He didn't want to lie to Dymphna. He had only lied....well...now twice in his life. He never wanted to do it again if he could help it.

Dymphna smiled and took another cookie, biting down on the meltingly delicious pastry and chewing before she answered. "I generally practice with King Bernard, His Majesty's uncle and 'the' King, if you will. He's remarkably patient for someone who always seems to have so much going on around him." She hadn't spent as much time in his company practicing as she had serving, but he was often willing to talk to her about things, inquire after her progress, make small suggestions. It was incredibly gratifying to have one of the premier magical talents in the kingdom chat with you about some of his work. "Such a nice older man. I've always thought he should find someone to settle himself with. Really, it's an absolute shame that he's never had any children of his own, but I suppose he makes up for it with his work." And his nephew.
She tilted her head and listened sympathetically, her mind buzzing with curiosity but most of it remaining completely internal. There was very little she knew... did he have friends? Family in the area? She was no stranger to family conflicts herself. Perhaps it had something to do with his work. Whatever it was, it certainly left him looking unhappy when he spoke on it.
"Everyone should have something to look forward to, even something small." Her eyebrow ridge knit together in thought and she settled her cup back on its saucer, contents nearly empty. "Tell me, Silvanus, what would you do if you did have someone to celebrate the season with? Would you decline and stay all alone? Or would you actually be willing to participate in the festivities?"
And wasn't that being bold of her. He was a Five... her mind could never let that fact alone, the mark on his chest leaving him at barely middle class. Perhaps that didn't matter so much in the City and the surrounding regions, but it mattered a good deal in the life she had made for herself. Even considering bringing someone of such low rank with her to celebrate the Harvest could be a dangerous move. At the same time, he was an artisan whose work had been commissioned by the Queen, and no one could deny that he cut a dashing figure no matter where he was. That remained an advantage of never wearing clothing. It couldn't label you. If anything, the charm on his antlers could be seen as decidedly classy. Hmm...
