Fino rubbed his thumb against the crimson wood. He hadn't heard the stories his uncle had. "No, I didn't call her. Didn't even think about her before she appeared. She feels almost warm to the touch. She's never felt that way before."
Around him, the snakes slipped and slithered through the air. The little yellow one slid down to wrap around his neck and rest its head on his shoulder, seeming to look at the weapon resting in its master's hand. The Queen suddenly got a sense of... well, there was only one possible way he could describe it...
Someone was pouting in his head.
"I think she's... jealous," he realized, eyes widened. For all that he had imagined the person who should be attached to his beautiful weapon, he had never gotten a sense of her in his head stronger than an 'affinity' of sorts. This was emotion, sensation, a sense of being.

Bernard raised an eyebrow. Jealous? He shook his head slightly without realizing he was doing it, how on earth was this possible? Weapons didn't summon themselves...often...or have emotions...ever.
"Jealous? What do you mean by that...are you hearing someone?"
He would have to look into this...he couldn't have his nephew hearing voices...if Serafino had an illness, he would figure out what it was and be rid of it now... He refused to lose the last family member he had...well, at least the last one he cared about.
"May I?"
He asked, extending his hand toward his nephew, obviously requesting to hold Marie. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he was a fool if he couldn't find a way to either explain it, or fix it.
And Bernard was no fool.
He looked at the polished haft and wondered what this could mean...if Hearts could truly befriend their weapons...
He repressed a slight shudder and waited.

"It's not like she's speaking, but she's more... alive... than she was before, Fino muttered as he handed the battle axe to his uncle, her blade flickering with the light being given off by the twisting orange-blue serpent. The wood was warm, not in a burning sense but warmer than it could have gotten through simple touch.
Even out of his hands, the sensation didn't go away. In fact, it got stronger as he passed her to Bernard and changed. He closed his eyes, trying to grasp the far-away feeling, and felt the brush of yet another thought against his mind. Curiosity, but not his.
When he opened his eyes, the fire demon that had been resting on its shoulder twisted its body around to hover in front of his face. "That one's you, isn't it?" he asked quietly, voice low but still audible to his uncle. The snake didn't respond, merely turned its head to look at Marie again.
If the feeling in his head had possessed feet, he was sure she would have stomped one of them petulantly. That's the kind of feeling he was getting, so much stronger than he had ever felt her before, and more assuredly 'female'.
Curious himself, and slightly off-balance from the sudden realization, he reached out a hand to touch the side of her blade once again, almost a pet. The feeling subsided slightly in intensity, but was still there. "I don't think she wants you holding her," he said, voice touched with surprise and the slightest bit of wonder.

Bernard raised his eyebrows in slight surprise. Doesn't want me to hold her?
"Hmmm, interesting...waht is she doing to give you the idea? Is it verbal, or..."
The axe very suddenly pulsed in his hand, the King let out a schocked yelp, and fumble the weapon, handing it back quickly.
"All right, all right. No need to have a hissy fit..." He muttere, feeling slightly silly for chiding a weapon...but not quite as silly as curious.
"Serafino....tell me...how interested would you be in actually seeing your friend in a...more physical form?" He eyed the axe almost hungrily, that had certaily felt sentient....what if he could make the weapon into a living creature? How closely would Hearts then be bound to their chosen weapons...how would that change their fighting style?
Or their promise on the feild?
He practically shivered in excitement...longing to test out some ideas already.

"Well, it's not exactly verbal, more like- okay," Fino said, taking her back with a startled expression. The presence in his mind calmed down immediately, her tantrum averted and her mood now closer to a small sulk.
"If she had a more physical form, she would have stomped her foot at you." The realization made him smirk a little, holding the axe comfortably and stroking his thumb along the wood. "I've always seen her as a Highland feline serpent, though... a little girl. She stopped growing at about twelve. I don't really know why. Dark red hair, pretty dress, lots of red in her fur..."
The serpents were all coiling closer to him now, one of them wrapping around his waist and another taking to his arm. They all stayed away from the body of the axe, however. The Queen's expression was suddenly one of amusement. "She doesn't want to share me with them."

"She doesn't want to share you?" He asked, ideas already beginning to run rampant in his mind.
"Then what if I...?"
He moved closer, ideas no longer concerning his nephew or the mindset of the odd weapon...only on what it was that he might be able to acheive. Was it possible to advance summoned weapons like this? What if he used the inanimate objects spell and combined it with the breath of life summons? He would have to have a pentagram...
Without even looking at Serafino, he turned and snatched a piece of chalk off of his desk, dropping to the floor and scawling a hasty pentagram on the varnished wood.
"Place her in the pentagram and step out please." He muttered, waving his hand as he searched desperately for three quick components: clear water, hickory bark, and three blades of grass.

Fino watched his uncle's expression change from 'interest' to 'work'. It was something he recognized intimately and it made him smirk a little. Sometimes a frenzy of activity resulted, sometimes a long period of uninterrupted silence. The former was usually a lot more entertaining, and it looked to be what would happen now. He couldn't even guess what went on in Bernard's head.
Twitching his skirts back so that they wouldn't get anywhere near the hastily drawn mark on the floor, the Queen bent down and carefully placed Marie in the center as instructed. She wasn't necessarily pleased about what was going on. He marveled at the sensation as he stepped away and looked at his uncle expectantly. Something was going to happen, he could tell. When he had that distracted look, a million miles away even though he stood within touching distance, things always happened.
The snakes all curled closer, picking up on his curiosity and flying around him in small loops and circles.

Once his nephew had done as he asked, he may as well have ceased to exist...at least until he next spoke. All that mattered until that point in time however, was the axe...and his idea.
Combining spells was an odd thing to do, making the caster feel as though their mind were splitting in two from the strain of concentration...but this wasn't too many to combine and the results...the results couls be...!
He talked himself out of feeling any strain. The goal too amazing a concept to allow anything else to override it.
Moving the axe delicately into an aligned position with the Northern point, he stepped back and dropped the blades of grass and three drops of water onto the blade. He then began to murmur, sounding out the syllables before attempting the spell at the necessary volume and confidance level.
He then looked up very sudenly and grinned.
Ideas like this were a flash in the pan...it would all depend on the roll of the moment and his ability to concentrate in order to pull off anything of value.
Whirling suddenly, he shouted five quick, unintelligible words, staring at the axe and moving his feet quickly, almost dancing as he slammed the hemlock bark toward the center of the pentagram.
It never made it ther, dissolving in midair as it hit what appeared to be a sudden wave of blue light.
"Ha ha! That's what I wnated!"
He yelled, racing eagerly back toward the pentagram and the slowly moving form inside. As soon as he saw it fully, however. He stopped moving completely.
"Oh..." The implication of what he had just done came to light as the figure within stared out at him with a haughty glare.
A girl.
A small, red haired girl.
Oh damn...

Fino watched his uncle work in a mixture of amusement and interest, all of his attention focused on the man's energized activities. He never understood what made Bernard grab the items he did or move around in a specific way; he just knew that whatever it was usually had some inkling of a clue, since things always happened when lights started flashing unexpectedly and his uncle used that particular exultant tone. Something almost seemed to spasm in his head and he drew in a quick, hissed breath of surprise. It didn't 'hurt', per se, but it was decidedly weird. The snakes all moved to coil around him tightly, one around his waist, another around an arm, and the third taking to his neck like a fiery boa. Their warmth was reassuring, for all that it was so new. The figure in the center of the pentagram slowly stood, golden eyes staring at Bernard in haughty disapproval as the sinuous body straightened. Small hands rose to straighten the silver tiara set atop her fiery hair. Then she sneezed once, violently, and the effect was ruined by her startled expression. As soon as he saw her, Fino couldn't hold back a small gasp of shock. She was... exactly as he had always seen her in his head, from her almost serpentine torso to the draping folds of her Highland-patterned skirt. "Marie...?" he said questioningly, unable to think of anything else. Her head snapped in his direction and her eyes widened, an unmistakable expression of flooding her features. "FINO!" she shouted gleefully and took off, nearly launching herself at him in a hug that almost made him choke as her arms locked vice-like around his middle. She hissed at the snake occupying his waist and it slithered away in surprise.
