And there it was. Kazifel laughed. He let out a real, heart felt laugh at what Femi had said and done. A big cuddly puppy dog? That was too adorable. And, well, a knock on the head was just hilarious for some reason.
He managed to regain his composure rather quickly. He didn't want to offend Femi or anything like that. He smiled at her. "You could be very right. My sister worked hard for her human form, and it usually does help make magic easier to use." He shrugged, "Then again Cassiel was amazing when it came to magic and science. She could have easily done something so I couldn't leave the house without punishment."
He almost winced at the thought. His sister was cruel more often than not. Kazifel never would have put it past her. He blinked. Wait, Femi didn't know what region he was? He mentioned it before. "I'm a Corvistowne and Highland mix, but I guess that doesn't explain much of what I look like. I doubt I could describe it to you, since I never really paid attention to looks." He grinned at her. Yes. This was safe and she was soft.

Femi's memory wasn't exactly the most stable thing in the world, though she could rattle off the names of any and all of her dolls at a moment's notice, complete with date acquired and personal backstory. He had mentioned his region once no doubt but, in typical fashion, she had pegged it as being less important than whatever her attention was focused on at the time. She would have commented on something to this effect, except...
His laugh. It was so wonderful. She wanted to hug him again, tighter, and so she did, almost rubbing up against him in her happy. It made her fur ruffle nicely. "You're pretty and your laugh is as sweet as your smile," she told him, her own face nearly lit up with pleasure. "Dolls don't laugh. They don't talk. They don't hug or pet or love. How could I possibly think you were a doll?"
And if I ever meet this Cassiel person, in this life or the next, I will beat her into a bloody pulp with the will of my love, she thought fiercely.

Kazifel certainly was surprised by her reaction. He blinked a few extra times and her rubbing up against him. This seemed so very familiar but he couldn't put his finger on it. However now wasn't really the time to try to remember something like that. "I guess... it's because I haven't done this in so long. I mean... I can't even remember the last time I was this happy."
Well, that was a bit of a lie. He had been happy this time before with his mother. But that was a long time ago, and he wasn't so happy it was indescribable. Or did soft fur describe it? Soft fur felt nothing like feathers... fur. Was he really feeling Femi at this very moment? This was real? This wasn't just him dreaming or hallucinating? "You are soft... right? Soft and damp?" He asked. He still wasn't sure if he felt it. He knew he was supposed. Kazifel just didn't know if it was really happening.

Cuddled up against him like this, her arms around him and fur sticking out whichever way it felt like, Femi sighed. "I can tell you when I was last this happy. Never. Never ever. I've never had you before, so I've never... known what it was like to love someone. And loving you makes me happier than I've ever been. So, never."
She reached up one hand to pet him, feeling the smoothly finished wood of his face. Her imagination was more than up to the task of pretending it was real skin and warm against her paw. If she'd been able to have hour-long two-sided conversations with a puppet, then she was certainly capable of feeling skin beneath her rather than hard wood. The fantasy was a happy one and she continued tracing his features, the beautiful lines she had painted with such attention to detail, until he spoke again.
"Hmm? Yes, I'm soft and furry and damp from the stream. And my hand is tickling your forehead, and my other one is playing with your hair." She giggled. If he couldn't feel it then she may as well describe what she was doing, otherwise he would have no idea.

Kazifel smiled. Snuggled up against her. "Thank you so much. Thank you for giving me a chance to be happy. Thank you so much for everything." This was the greatest thing that had ever happened to him. Nothing to could him happier--well one thing besides knowing he could feel.
She said she was stroking his hair and tickling his face. That seemed right somehow. And she said stream. She took a bath in the stream in this sort of weather? What did she do during the winter? So many things to ask questions about and so many things to think about it was almost overwhelming. "I imagine the water is cold. I never really did like the cold. I think it would be different now... I want to feel everything. The good and the bad. But I think right now I'm happy with knowing what soft is again." He smiled. This was a time when he was so happy he could cry. That's something his mother said to him once, and he never forgot it. She was happy because of him. He liked making people happy more than breaking them.
He would make Femi happy for as long as he could.

(( ...I have the feeling that we may have to take up you on that. XD; ))
And the skinny little squirrel was most certainly happy, some of her fur's dampness having bled away into the blankets and her King's clothes. She was left dry, if ruffled, and with a silly smile on her face. "I prefer the cold to the hot, and I like soft better than a lot of things I can think of. Of course, I'd like you however you came... hard, soft, wet, it doesn't matter." She sighed and nosed absently at the collar of his coat.
Eyes opening thoughtfully from their comfortable half-close, she raised her head to look at him. "I'm a lot warmer now than I was, and I'd hate for our lovely, relaxing day to be completely lost to dozing, however nice it is. I think maybe I should start to show you a little bit more of your new home than I have, just so that you have some idea of where everything is and who to avoid. We're all rather fond of our privacy, you see, and if you accidentally wander near a few peoples' houses, they have rather nasty things set up to deter that. I'd feel horribly guilty if I ever asked you to fetch me something and you accidentally wandered too close."
She slowly slid away and off of the bed, trying to calm some of her chaotic fur into a semblance of order. It really was impossible sometimes, especially her tail. Chittering at it reproachfully, she gave it one last pet and waited for Kazifel to follow her from the house.

(( X3 Oh. I think we might be able to pull it off. I would be giddy if we did. ))
Kazifel made no protests. It would be nice to do nothing, sometimes it seemed like the best solution, but he could hardly argue with such logic. He didn't want to get into any sort of trouble if he did have to go out on his own. He didn't even want to think about the traps that people could have outside of their houses.
Then again in his part of Corvistowne it used to be dangerous to walk down the street without being tackled by some scientist. At least he could avoid traps here.
He followed her outside the house and followed like he seemed to do a lot of. That's what happened when he was in a strange place. It was better to follow than simply wander. Wandering had proved dangerous on quite a few occasions. "What do you have around here, anyway? Your village seems too small to have.... much."

Femi nodded at his comment, eyes glancing around to take in who might be outside in this part of the village. There were a handful of houses around her. This close to the edge of the small village, homes were smaller like hers and of a similar simple style.
"If you mean shops or things like that, you'd be right. There isn't much at all. You have to walk an hour to the next village over to find something like a general store, which carries a little bit of everything in terms of food and the like. That's why I don't like food shopping, because it's a pain to have to go over there. We have one woman who works out of her home as a seamstress, another who has a small pottery barn behind her house, a few mages who sometimes offer their services on an individual fee basis like my parents... I've been paid to paint one or two toys by local families, but that's really all I can think of. There are others a ways away in nearby villages you can get to without too much hassle, though. Well, besides the normal hassle of wandering the Wood, but that's nothing special. Just gotta dodge the predators and you're usually fine."
She raised a paw to wave hesitantly at a neighbor, a canine woman who gave her a long look before raising her own paw in acknowledgment. She was staring curiously at Kazifel. "Just ignore her," the squirrel whispered under her breath. "She thinks I'm her dead daughter's girlfriend and she's never given up on the idea, even though her daughter died ten years ago and I was just a kid."
