The ram was silent for a long moment before giving a very small, very quiet, "Oh.". He looked absolutely abashed and turned his head away to try and cover his embarrassment. Ahem.
"I... ah..." He was trying to think of a way to cover his faux pas. "I've never seriously considered going into the Courts," he admitted quietly. "I... don't think I'm very well suited for them." No pun intended.
When you couldn't stop yourself from flinching every time you saw anyone new, well. . . it definitely limited your job options. Which brought up another worrisome thought; his money stores were beginning to get lower than he appreciated and he needed to find some sort of work to keep him from starving.
At least it was a relief to hear Ezra admit that he wasn't any sort of killer. If the ram had truly been worried about that, he'd feel relieved now.

Ladarius's rage deflated immediately, which was a relief. Ezra usually found himself at something of a loss when faced with powerful emotions. Anger in particular.
"Never know until you try," Ezra said, thoughtfully. That philosophy had gotten him mired in all kinds of strange career paths in the past, and he had a feeling it was about to shove him headlong into another one. It would be a very long journey, though. He was only a Five. Attaining Jack and getting into Court in the first place would take massive amounts of effort. He would need to do something in the meantime. Get a job again, start eating something other than noodles and odd scraps. Establish connections. So much planning, so much time. "I just want to find something I am suited for. Perhaps you'd come to like it as well. What makes you so ill-equipped?"

The ram looked away again, evidently still embarrassed and a bit uneasy at their topic of conversation. Still, Ezra had been very kind so far and very nice as a person. It only seemed fair to answer any of his questions, especially since Ladarius didn't really want to drive the other man away. It was kind of nice to have someone talk to you like you weren't an idiot just because you didn't like to really make eye contact.
"I'm. . . not very good with people." That was sure to be a hugely enormous shock to Ezra; nothing the ram had done thus far suggested he could be even the slightest bit awkward with people.
He paused to think about Ezra's suggestion though. "It. . . might be nice, though." Maybe. . . maybe he could use his gifts to aid the Queen of Spades. Maybe he could do something other than just hide in graveyards.

Ezra was quite accustomed to the people around him not being good with other people but, not being very good with people himself, he was never very well-equipped to deal with them. It was something they were all just going to need to get over, he supposed. Though it might well prove to be more difficult for Ladarius than for him. Ezra was just tirelessly apathetic and mildly socially retarded; he had no idea what kind of deep-rooted issues might be keeping the ram out of large amounts of company.
He shrugged. "I feel that it might be...interesting. And I suppose I can do the bulk of the interacting with other people business," he said dubiously. Ezra tended to be better at getting people to run far away more than anything else. Unless he was performing horrible music for them. But he didn't suppose one could get tremendously far in the politcal realm by being a good musician.

Darius gave a small nod, pleased with Ezra's basic idea thus far. It would be lovely if this sudden bid for 'power', so to speak, was not only successful, but actually worked out with their personalities. For probably the first time in his entire life, the ram actually felt hopeful about his life and the direction it appeared to be heading in.
Ezra, however, didn't seem quite as upbeat as he was starting to feel. Perhaps they wouldn't do so well? The sheep wanted to be hopeful, though. He was tired of being afraid, of fearing his knowledge. Surely there was a way to turn his curse to good?
Perhaps not surely, but hopefully. Maybe. His tail started to tuck, and he tried to keep such a tell-tale sign of his uneasy from showing. Not that it really mattered if Ezra saw it, because Darius felt oddly comfortable with the other man.
"When. . . should we begin?"

There was a lot of work to be done before one could get oneself in the Court, of course. There was a lot of tedious business of ranking up and going out and being sociable and a lot of related nonesuch that Ezra was not quite used to but would need to acclimate himself to. He felt much better about the whole thing having someone by his side, even if that person was every inch as reticent as Ezra and conversation wasn't likely to be sparkling. Ezra rather liked quiet companionship better anyway.
He invited Ladarius to crash at his small apartment for a little while, content with either a yes or a no. It wasn't a very nice place and Ezra mostly subsisted on noodles and whatever cheap bits of leftover meat he could procure, but he supposed there was a lot to be said for poverty and malnutrition and the building of character. They had a lot of time to become much better off, after all.
