She took in his words and turned them over in his head. His Nephew was the Queen, then? She took note of the type of people this man and his Nephew were. This order was never overturned? Interesting. She was beginning to realize that she may have to hold her tongue more than she was accustom to. She didn't have Daddy to hide behind and chuckle anymore when she pissed somebody off.
She felt a burning on her chest, then she looked down. A bright red "J" now took the place of the "10", contrasting brilliantly with her dull fur. She gave a nod of her head as "thank you".
"I would like a room now, please, just so I don't have to find you later. How long may I stay?" She was intensely curious of this place and the people in it.

Bernard took note of the pointed stare after his statement.
"The order was never overturned...but that does not mean that some do not wish it would be..." He murmured, his voice barely audible.
"But sometimes having relatives in high power can be more a blessing than curse, sometimes the reverse. You will find that not all people are monsters in the Courts, you will find that some are..."
As he made to stand, he let his voice rise to a more normal level, looking directly into the expressionless mask.
"And you will find that some are sometimes, and at others are angels...people in and of themselves are monstrous, but we can control it to an extent."
He nodded to her statement.
"We'll go to your room now." He said smiling, laying a hand on her shoulder, his other hand reaching onto the bookshelf as they passed. He then reached down and looped a small silver key, a ruby set into the top on a thin silver chain around her neck.
"This is your key to your room and you ticket in and out of the palace without conflict. You may stay as long as you like, unless there's a reason that you find you either can no longer stay or no longer want to."
He led her up the stairs to the eighth floor, making sure to keep his place slower so that the quadruped could keep up.
"If you require anything else just ring for one of the servants or head down to the kitchens and find it yourself."
He opened the door and showed her the room.
Large, with three comfortable chairs and two poofs for quadrupeds, around an oak desk. Two doors in the back leading off to separately a bathroom, complete with shower, and a very comfortable bedroom.
"If you need anything, please come and find me, I'll be glad to help, miss Heilyn."
He gave her an encouraging smile and left her to her own devices.

Oh do I know that all too well, she thought, taking in his statement, but giving no outward display of any kind. He and I will have to talk sometime... she thought, interest in the man rising. Either he could read her mind or he was extremely perceptive. She felt the roughness of his hands and got a better look at his face, his scars, his eyes. The respect and curiosity that was slowly developing for him blocking out uncouth or boorish thoughts from her mind.
She followed him to the room and was quite delighted at what she saw. And what he told her. She had servants, now. It was almost enough to make her squeal. She nodded at him, biting her tongue so as wouldn't laugh as being referred to with such formality.
"Thank you, Sir. It is greatly appreciated." and he left. She would spend tomorrow plotting, exploring, contacting all of her relations and associates... but for now...
She kicked the door closed behind her then took a running jump onto one of the poufs, marveling at its comfort and quality.
Oh.
Hell.
YES.
[I'm very glad she made such a positive impression on him. <3 I enjoyed this very much, too, and am looking forward to more encounters. <3]
