Zane never handled criticism well. He really did need to learn how to get over himself. He had a long way to go. The sparrow was thankful to be given chance to take the test.
That was an interesting situation. A complicated one to boot.
"No, I wouldn't take the trade. It would be the easy way out, and could easily come back to bite me later. If someone found out that I gave access to guard, and he did something bad happened to the child I can't imagine things would work out in my favor," Zane nodded. That still left helping his father. That was a bit more difficult. "Just because I exhausted the resources in the Court of Diamonds and Spades doesn't mean I couldn't use connections outside the courts. I'm sure I could find in my father's laundry list of connections who was good with poisons. If the specific poison was found I imagine the source could be found as well. Just because the easy way out is right in front of me doesn't mean I should take it. Even if my father was all right I wouldn't want the death of a child on my head, but that's just assuming the worst."
Even if that wasn't the "right" answer, Zane wouldn't change it.

Kari and Nat receive 1 token each, to be redeemed in Ashwin's Shoppe. This will automatically be added to your recorded totals in the shoppe. Congratulations, and keep up the good RP!

"A good way to go about it, certainly. Perhaps less complex than I would have gone for, but you have struck as the very straightforward type, Zane. And that's not a criticism, merely an observation."
He watched the Sparrow's face, seeing that he was set in his response and that further prodding would not reveal further truth...unlike the rat he had instructed earlier...what was it with Diamonds taking their tests here, anyway? Not that he minded it was simply...odd... Had Vestra really sunk so low as to be avoided? He would have to make sure to ask around...
"As it stands I would easily accept you into this Court based upon that answer, we need more people here who don't try to out think themselves every other day. Sometimes it really is a treasure to have someone who has their head screwed on straight. For putting up with me, especially, I feel that you deserve your rank up, though if you'll look down...you'll note that I gave it to you over five minutes ago."
The King smiled, still not showing any teeth, his eyes half closed, like a reptile that was overly pleased with itself.
"If you find yourself interested in service to our current Queen, please do drop by again soon. I do hope that we'll meet again someday, Zane. You are a very different character from what we normally receive in this palace. Do tell your father that he was correct and that I owe him 5p."
With that he stood and held the door open. Once the Sparrow was through he would close it without any further words and leave the Sparrow to exit on his own.

Zane blinked with surprise. Oh? Really? It was over and that simple? Uh, well. No reason to stick around any longer. "Thank you, your Highness. I'll seriously considering coming back in the future."
The sparrow stood up giving the King a slight bow before heading out the door. Wait... what was that last comment about owing his father...? Zane wasn't about to ask. As much as he wanted to know, he wasn't about to turn around and inquire now that the door had slid shut behind him.
He gave a sigh of relief as he walked down the staircase. He had actually passed. Thank the stars above. At least he had good news to go home with. First he had to get out of the palace. It couldn't be that hard to find out, could it? The sparrow walked out of the wall (which was still beyond a shade weird for him) and looked left and right. It made him wonder where everyone was.
