Once more Ophelia endured the quiet scrutiny with a smile and once he spoke up she even echoed the laughter with a little of her own. She was definitely an odd character, but she fell into the Diamond charm as if it was second nature. Nodding casually, almost cheerfully, Ophelia reached into her purse and dug out 45 gold. Flashing the handful of coins to Majida to encourage the young female to pick up the other portion of the tab, she then slid it to the Barkeeper as she spoke up.
"Well, when you put it like that I suppose we really don't have much of a choice."
Once Majida's coins were added to the pile, Ophelia shifted and headed toward one of the tables that were both unoccupied and mostly removed from the others. She wanted to observe and listen for now, she might approach one of the strangers for information later, but for now the quest could wait until she and Maji both had a decent meal to work on.

She would not have minded sleeping on the ground, but since they were here and it was dark, not to mention that she always welcomed a warm bed if it was available. She watched Ophelia converse with the man at the counter and was over come with awe. She was so elegant and so well reserved. Maji blushed a little and dug out her share of the coins to add to the cost of the lodgings and food.
Maji quickly followed Ophelia once her share of the coins was added to the small pile. She looked down at the ground as she tried to not look at the people who had gathered in the small room. She did not like the noises that were coming from the people who were seated in the large room, but then again she would have never guessed why they were snickering.
She settled down in a chair at the table that Ophelia had chosen for the pair. She wanted to talk to her, but she was not sure where to start, so she just sat there in silence as she played with her hands in her lap and waited for the meals to arrive.

A woman emerged from a door to the back of the room, carrying with her a tray and several platters piled high with food. Vegetables, fried potatoes, and rice were all in abundance. For the price they charged, they didn't skimp on meals. Their server looked to be a feline, a buxom biped with shapely hips and a flowing skirt, though nothing covered her boldly-marked top and the Eight of Diamonds branded there.
She gave all of the customers a smile, including the two newest patrons, tufted ears perked upwards. "Hello there, folks. Tonight we're serving roasted vegetables, onion-fried potatoes, garlic rice, and slow-cooked venison. If you'd like something to drink, we have various beverages both alcoholic and not available at your leisure. Let me cut off a few slices of meat and then I'll start taking requests, alright?" She set one platter down on each of the occupied tables and turned to the cooking leg of meat behind her.
At the table closest to theirs, the Kahmden Jack and her Highland companion, his rank obscured, dug into their meal hungrily. The three slightly further away took their time beginning the meal, one of them wrinkling his nose at it altogether. He was a Siamese-esque feline, graceful and practically lounging on his chair. "I can't tell what's worse," he said in a bored tone, "the wait or the atmosphere. I thought this was supposed to be a respectable establishment." His face stayed turned towards his companion but his eyes slid over to Ophelia, the faintest hint of a sneer evident on his muzzle.
One of the others, an avian, rolled his eyes expressively. "Really, what do you expect? It's a travelers' hotel. We're travelers. So are they, apparently. We can retreat to the rooms soon enough."

Maji almost drooled at the food that was placed in front of her and she resisted the urge to shovel it into her mouth. It had been quite some time since she last saw a meal as lavious as this one, she wanted to savor it because it was rare for her to be treated to such a treat.
As she lifted a spoonful of the rice to her beak, she felt the staring of the feline not far away. She hoped that he was not looking at her, she hated having attention attracted to herself as it always some how ended up causing trouble. His harsh words stun her small ego, she wanted to shrink into a ball and disappear. Did they really have to stay here? Was all of this really a good idea? No, she had to be strong; she had to help finish the task that the queen had set for them. She silently eat her meal and when the women who had been serving the food came to their table to ask for drinks she just asked for a glass of water, it was all she needed. She wanted to turn and look at all of the people gathered around, but she also resisted this urge as well. She wanted to get a better look at the feline who had shown his distaste of this place and his surrounding company.

(Ack. So sorry for holding everyone up with this =\)
Ophelia beamed up at the waitress as she moved to serve their food, her peridot eyes shining with welcome. Of course she heard the voices in the background but their low insults all wrapped in their guise of 'politeness' did little to bother her. When his sneering look was directed toward her, Ophelia flashed that charming smile once more. While the doe might not have appeared the most up and up sort, considering her weird physical looks, she carried something about her that blatantly announced she was more than met the eye. Something that didn't entirely have to do with the diamond charm she cloaked herself in for this quest.
As curious as she was about the strangers nearby, she kept her attention momentarily focused upon Maji and no one else. As a scientist she knew when it was best to observe before taking action, and now appeared to be one of those times.
"Do you travel often, Maji?"
She spoke casually despite the fact that her thoughts were partly preoccupied with the two travelers just barely visible from the corner of her eye.

The waitress smiled back at Maji and Ophelia's enthusiasm for the food, seemingly unaffected by their regions. Whether or not this was genuine couldn't be determined, but she seemed sincere enough in her welcome as she slid them a few slices of juicy meat and went to retrieve beverages for all of the patrons. She was a pretty thing even for her region.
On the way back over, pouring a glass of wine for the lithe feline who had made the remark, she 'accidentally' whacked him on the side of the head with the bottle, hard enough to jostle him in his seat. "So sorry, Paisley!" she exclaimed, setting the bottle down to rub vigorously at the spot she'd hit. "How very clumsy of me! I do apologize." She leaned closer and the last bit could barely be heard in a hissed whisper. "Your dissssrespect of our customers mussst have distracted me, Your Highnesss."
The man fluffed up in anger, the red slash markings across his eyes turning down as he glared at her. "I've lost my appetite," he said flatly and stood, moving through the room and going up the stairs to the second floor. The man at the desk watched him go with a reserved expression, then shot the waitress a Look, which she returned in kind.
The buxom feline sighed in a somewhat put-upon manner, then shook her head and smiled brightly. "Perhaps you could bring his dinner up for him later, Chauncey?" she murmured to the avian before moving to check on the patrons. "Anything else I can get you folks, or are you set?"

Ophelia couldn't help the small smile which twitched onto her lips as she watched the waitress 'accidentally' knock Paisley, as she'd heard him be called, and the events which played out in a little flush of embarrassment and frustration afterward. Lords it was entertaining. And rather pleasing as well. Ophelia loved to see a person take a stand for what they believed in, even if what they believed in was keeping paying customers around.
Continuing to watch the rest of the room through the corner of her eye, Ophelia quickly finished her meal and settled back to politely wait for Maji. Once the little bird was done as well they could both head upstairs for what Ophelia was really craving: a warm bed.
"I'm ready to head up to the room whenever you are."
She flashed that warm smile once more, deciding that conversation could wait until they were both rested and on the road again.

Maji jumped slightly at Ophelia's question. She had not been expeciting the doe to talk to her much really and she had been lost in her own thoughts. "No...Not really..." what would she tell her? Could she even bring up the fact that she did not have a proper home? No...Not even Ashwin knew that about her. She was ashamed of that and she did not want pity. She started to ask the older female the same question, but was interrupted by the commontion at the other table.
She watched intently until she realised that she was staring and then quickly looked away, She lifted another bite to her mouth as she continued to finish her meal. She was almost done when Ophelia asked her yet another question. She looked at her companion's plate and noticed that it was empty and she quickly finished her own. She hesitantly answered the doe, "I'm...I'm ready..." and looked away as she stooke up and pushed her chair in.

The rooms upstairs were all well-appointed, the private room Ophelia and Maji had purchased set up with two beds, a table, two chairs, and a small vanity. It was quite a comfortable size for an inn, allowing them room to walk around. The entire building seemed comfortably roomy, possibly a statement for the region. The palace of Hearts was quite spacious in its appointments as well, though it was a difficult comparison to make with an inn.
Mattresses were stuffed with feathers, perhaps a little too soft for some tastes but of a high quality. All of the linens were crisp and well-pressed, the rooms tidy and clean, and the overall presentation one of quality.
Voices could be heard coming through the wall next to theirs, muffled but still audible. One was obviously the feline from before, and the other might have been his avian companion. The first voice seemed peeved and agitated, the second attempting a conciliatory tone. Something about 'banders' and 'birds'.
