Dilis knew Miss Anoushka was watching her. No... Judging was a better word. She also knew that perhaps she should not have said as much as she had being that she had not known this person for very long. Silly Dilis, she always said too much at inopportune moments. Ah well, nothing wrong with being kind to a person... right?
The question surprised her, a physical or mental challenge? Well, she could handle a physical one if she had to but... it really was not lady-like to do such a thing. She supposed mental challenge would be the way to go but that distressed her even more seeing how Miss Anoushka kept grinning at her the way she was. "Well, I suppose a mental one would be more suiting to me." She said this time more confidently. She was not terribly afraid, she just knew that Miss Anoushka would probably pull out all the stops and take pleasure in doing so... especially if Dilis failed.

Oh yes, that hadn't been predictable at all. Anoushka nodded her head and smirked. "Very good, girl, very good. Since I don't feel like getting up again, you vill have your qvest held right here." She tilted her head to watch Dilis with narrowed eyes gaging the right moment, then reached out her hand, palm facing outward towards the girl.
"The first thing you must do is consider the things that have shaped you, molded you into vhat you are. Then, vhen you have them firmly in mind, you should come and press your forehead against the palm of my hand. The qvest vill begin vhen I feel that you are ready."
As soon as the feline's head pressed against her palm, her consciousness would immediately appear elsewhere, standing in the middle of a grassy field that she would remember from sometime in her childhood. She would look as she did then, in a dress and ready for Court, but on her chest would be the rank she was born with.

It seemed to Dilis that Anoushka was pleased by her reply. For a second it almost seemed like Anoushka was happy with her... but that could have been deceiving. She had asked her to think of what shaped her so… she would. Of course, the first thing that popped into her head was her mother’s death. That was the first thing that really… shaped her per se. She held that in her mind and pressed her forehead against Miss Anoushka’s palm.
She was sent to a field, it did look familiar to her though for the moment she could not place it. It was like it was somewhere she had been before. She looked down at herself and automatically noticed the seven on her chest. Oh dear... I know where I am now…. It was odd because she also noticed she was dressed the same as she was when she had entered Anoushka’s quarters.

The field was empty for a short time, disturbed only by a light breeze that ruffled the grass and Dilis's dress. Then soft footsteps could be hear coming up behind and around her, stepping lightly. When the figure came into view, it was an Avington feline, her face a mixture of emotions that included curiosity, worry, and confusion. Her footsteps were just as quiet as they had been before as she approached. Dilis would recognize her instantly.
"Dilis?" she asked softly, voice oddly echoing even though they were in a wide open field. "Dilis, darling, is that really you? What... are you doing here? I don't understand. You look lovely, but... I don't understand?" Her head tilted and her eyes suddenly brimmed with tears, an expression the younger woman saw on her several times before. "I can see that you haven't done much with yourself in all this time," she said softly, disappointment tinging her words with an echoing melancholy.

She could hear footsteps coming near her; as they got closer she saw a familiar Avington... oh god... she spoke to her and she knew instantly who it was. "...Mother? Oh god.. but you are... how? how is this happening? No! You are dead. This is not real. You are dead... he killed you... oh god.. I SAW HIM KILL YOU. Why are you doing this to me?"
Dilis was much more than just distraught at this development though she knew that Anoushka had to be testing her. "I have not done much? I have done wonderfully for myself and shame on you for not seeing that, I am your daughter and you will show me respect. I tried to save you and you have the nerve to speak to me in such a way? How dare you! I AM going to become a Jack and I AM going to work my way up in the courts... then you will see. No one will ever defy my words again let alone you."
She felt the pain and the anger seep within her and she knew she had to prove this... thing wrong. No, she would not think of it as her mother. This was simply a figment of Anoushka's imagination and she was not about to let Anoushka get the best of her. She would fight tooth and nail to get the position she deserved... but only if she had to.

The woman visibly flinched at her daughter's accusations, cringing back slightly, but then she took another glance at the rank on the girl's chest and shook her head. "But... but you haven't even started your way down that path, Dilis. You're still the same meek little thing that you've always been, your rank the same, your body the same... older, perhaps, but look at you. You're still his pretty little doll as much as you've always been. As much as I was, except... not. I'm free now. But you're not. You're still his. Like a puppet. How can I respect a puppet? Why are you even here?"

Dilis was horrified at the words coming from this person's mouth. No, this was not her mother. Her mother was lovely and nice and would never say such hateful things to her. "If you knew anything you would realize he killed you because you produced a club. My, that had to have killed you knowing that... and after all that, he ended up loving me more than he ever loved you. I AM A TEN. I am not a seven, you fool. I am a ten and you are just too foolish to realize this is a delusion. YOU are a delusion. You are dead and in the ground and that is where you will always be. He killed you and I know because I saw it. Are you so stupid as to realize that I could not possibly stay the same age for ten years?" She took a breath quickly and settled her nerves.
"And as for being Father's "doll", you have it all wrong. He adores me and you are just upset that he could not love you that way. He could not stand the sight of you so he had to kill you. He probably did not even love you. And as for you respect? I do not need it anymore, your opinion stopped mattering the moment you let yourself get killed. You are a weakling and though I used to be as well, I am most definitely not one any longer." Dilis smiled to herself, pleased that she could finally stand up for herself. No one had really gotten her upset before so she did not have to but... this was someone masquerading as her mother.

Taking a step back from her, the feline's eyes misted over and she turned her head away. "Well," she said softly, "at least I can see that his efforts weren't wasted. I wonder when you will realize... just what he has done to you. If you ever will. You truly are his daughter now, aren't you?" Looking at her one last time, as if trying to imprint the vision of her daughter in her mind for the rest of eternity, she turned and began to walk away.
Dilis's eyes would then open and she would see Anoushka reclining in front of her, gold eyes bright with interest, grin positively feral. The canine's hand slowly dropped from her head and went to rest on the bench where she reclined.
"Vell," she said, sounding pleased. "You certainly are the little bitch in disguise, aren't you? Maybe you vill fit in here after all. Saying such things to the memory of a mother who died to make your birth acceptable. I mean, really. My. I vouldn't have expected something so... spunky from a pretty little fluff like you. Velcome to the Courts, my dear." So saying, she reached out her hand again and passed it over the feline's chest. A burning sensation would be felt, and then the rank beneath her hand would change to a 'J'.

Dilis opened her eyes and was again back with Anoushka. She was grinning back at her as if she was so pleased at what she did.
"I did what I felt I had to, one cannot progress without first getting over the past Father says. Even if it brought up awful memories, I am glad I was able to push them aside. Although I may not have liked your methods, I do thank you however for your welcome."
As Anoushka touched her chest, she felt the a burning and realized her 10 had been changed to a J. "I am sure we will meet again so I will not necessarily bid you adieu. Just... farewell for now." She bowed her head at Anoushka and walked out the door. Well, this is going to be an interesting story for Father later... I wonder what he will think, Anoushka bringing mother to me and all...
