"I want it...I want it...I want it!"The thought repeated through his head in a monotonous circle as he moved quickly down the road. His suit was a bit rumpled and his hair mussed from an evening with his dearest love, his smile was as even as if it had been ironed and his eyes were narrowed in concentration. He passed various people, quite a few who looked as though they were trying to stop him, but they weren't what he was looking for. He was out and he wanted a scrap. A scrap with someone who wasn't confused on an alternate plane, who wasn't afraid of him purely because he "wasn't real", a real scrap with real people. His shoes clicked on the cobblestones and his eyes darted about as he snapped back up, shoulders straight and his neck craned for anything of interest. So far the only thing of any interest had been that odd Jack of Clubs that ran a barber shoppe, but he had ignored all forms of goading. Two forms appeared out of the mist before him, tall and one rather thick....might they do? He hurried forward in order to circle around their front and scope out rank if possible, a smile in place on his face. His hips swayed as he moved and his eyes roved quickly. "And who might you two be?"

Seth and Heilyn were returning from a trip to the Capital to check on the small apartment that he was still paying for as well as other varied unfinished business. Once they'd finished their business they'd met up again outside of the apartment, Seth licking the last traces of canteloupe off his fingers and smiling to himself. On a whim, the pair had decided to take a detour through the alleys of the Outer Bazaar, a place they hadn't been for many years. Things had changed quite a bit since they'd been a pair of Eights who had to watch their backs in this part of town. Seth was grinning to himself. For how grungy the place was, it had some good memories for the man. None that he cared to share with Heilyn, of course, but they were there all the same. The smile was quick to fade, however, as he watched someone in a human form creep towards them. If he'd been in animal or biped, the hair on the back of his neck would have been standing on edge. It wasn't common that he ran into someone with that sort of ability in a place like this, and it made him feel uneasy almost immediately. When he moved closer, Seth quickly looked the man over. Well dressed but rumpled, and somewhat... twitchy. He didn't like the looks of the blue-haired man and he instinctively pulled his Heilyn a little closer. " Depends on who's asking,[/b]" the man shot back, keeping an even smile on his face. It simply wouldn't do to let the stranger know of his unease this early on. He could just be acting paranoid.

Heilyn wandered down the street near her Queen. She was a King. It ironic that it should be walking down this dingy street rather than the decadent courts that she felt safer than she had for a long time. It was quiet, dark, misty... All around comfortable. It felt great to be outside for this long, especially after tying up a few loose ends.
Then the man appeared in front of them. How... irritating, and creepy. She didn't like the way he looked at them. Part of him wanted him to just leave, but the other wanted to beat him into the ground. She'd been sending Seth out to take care of her enemies for her, real or imagined, and has been seeing little action herself save for sparring. She wanted a little real adrenaline again.
She let Seth pull her closer, tucking her arms into the embrace, touching the palms of her hands to his sides. She kept her gaze on the man, though. She had long since lost the ability to appear innocent and fearful when she wasn't, so the look she gave him could be described as nothing but inquisitive. He'd be more likely to attack if one of them looked helpless enough to provoke one.
She stayed quiet, letting Seth speak for them for now.

"Finistris is who happens to be asking at this point, how do you do?" He responded to the large man, eying him up and down. He looked like he might be fun to entertain, bulky and large, his hair denoting either a Glacier dweller or a strong mix. He liked them, quite a lot, ever since his other half's precious Highlander had been so thoroughly defiled by a large Bat from the Glacier, he had found himself fond of the realm. The man's clothing made it difficult for him to guess his rank or suit, but the woman's was obvious.
King of Hearts, and an odd looking Realm, or was it a mix? His eyes roved again as he straightened up and tugged his tie into place, smiling thinly at them. Something about the smell of her triggered a thought in his mind...Canine? Did he know her? He couldn't place the smell of the man, though.
He tossed his long hair lightly, women liked that, as he watched this King pull her bulky Glacier dweller closer to her and keep her gaze steady. Oooh, he liked that!
"And who might you to be? Out so late and in this end of town? Not the best place to be, there are Lowland scum running amok down here, you know?" He murmured with another small smile, watching the Canine's face closely. His Osias would have laughed at his warning to them, pity he couldn't be here... Something about this King though, her face was so familiar, as though it had been described to him in a thousand stories...odd.
He would wait for their responses, and as soon as they had finished speaking, he would activate one of his abilities....he wanted to see how they reacted to it before doing anything else.
Moderate Ability: Once a day, he is capable of causing his entire body to vanish slowly over the course of ten seconds. He will then remain invisible for one full minute, though he can still be heard easily.

Finistris. The name meant nothing to Seth, and when he took a moment to glance at Heilyn she didn't seem to look as if she was familiar with it either. It seemed odd to him that such a high-ranked, high-classed individual would be skulking about in the shadows as the man was. It made the man wary, put him on-edge, and his red eyes watched Finistris's every move as cautiously as he possibly could.
"Well enough, I suppose,[/b]" he replied, his tone showing his cautious mood. He ran his hand across Heilyn's shoulder, almost stroking her in a reassuring way. He'd handle this, for now at least. Seth had spent the first part of his life, before he'd even met Heilyn, working himself out of sketchy situations like this one. The first thing he'd learned was that it was usually not a good idea to ignore a question but also not a good idea to encourage more talk.
The man raised his head to look the stranger dead-on as he answered his next question. He was looking for something in the other man's eyes. Some signal as to what, exactly, he was up to. One hand absently touched the sheath at his side, stroking the handle of his weapon idly. It was a comforting presence.
The other thing Seth had learned was that it was wise to never give someone you didn't trust your real name. That just invited all sorts of drama later in life. There was a superstitious aspect to it as well. Seth knew that any spell needed something to activate it. A word, a touch, a look, or... A name. He wasn't going to provide this stranger with something so powerful, not when he was already feeling so mistrusting of him. "We're no one of importance, just had some lose ends that needed tying,[/b]" he remarked, hand sliding down across Heilyn's side and easing around her waist. It was a much more comfortable way to hold her. "I've learned that sometimes a Lowlander is the least of your worries out here.[/b]"
And sure enough, the man began to vanish. Seth could feel the adrenaline starting to rush through his body and his free hand slid around the handle of one katar, gripping it tightly. When Finistris had vanished completely, the man growled softly, the sound almost unsure. Red eyes darted from side to side. Where had he gone?

The Tove enjoyed exploring new places, and took a little longer to catch up with the pair. Heilyn let the Tove land on her shoulder as Seth did what he felt was necessary to deal with the man. Heilyn wanted a fight, though. She had a serious case of cabin fever. She gave the man a sneer, challenging him. Her eyes went wide as he disappeared. That... wasn't right. She separated herself from Seth and touched her suit marking, ready to pull out her weapon at any time. But not just yet. She didn't want to reveal her secrets just yet. Interesting. Finally something worth my presence, the wire remarked in a haughty tone. "Tinman," she commanded sharply. The Tove came right to her side. She stood to Seth's back, watching in the other direction. She couldn't help but smile, releasing a held breath. That ability meant this man was powerful. There was no was no way they could lose. Even if he was a Queen, he was up against a Queen and a King. This was going to be fun.

That sneer, it only made him want to watch the woman writhe as he dug his rings into her flesh. He moved cautiously, not letting sound betray him, not yet.
He watched the Tove move in and land, this should make things interesting...he hoped so. Hell, did he hope so. He watched their eyes shift and activated his small ability, waiting for the small tendrils of fog to start rising before standing upright behind them, he had edged back about ten feet and kept his eyes fixed on the larger man...he had a weapon, though Finistris couldn't be sure what.
He chuckled darkly, pushing his hair back and whispering. "Verily, I make it so..."
He watched their tense forms in appreciation. Such forms, he would have to see what it took to take them down. If not all the way, then at least to their knees. He would fins out what they were.
Small Ability: Once a day, he is capable of causing a small mist to form slowly over the course of a minute, the mist will focus on an opponent if he can focus on their eyes. The mist is warm and once it begins to form, it cuts off all view of the rest of the world around the victim. Moderate Ability: Once a day, he is able to cause the ground to change a dried, bloody red between himself and an opponent, simply by whispering the words "verily, I make it so". The ground will then begin to flake away if anyone other than the caster steps on it, slowly reducing itself to an incredibly slick surface that will spread up walls within a full minute. The surface does not affect that caster and causes most others to overbalance. Animal form can help one to stay a bit more on top of their situation, but many, especially if they try to move or run, will go sprawling. The spell lasts for a full three hours and spreads up to half a mile if the caster remains able to concentrate lightly.

There had been something about the blue-haired stranger that from the very beginning had set Seth's nerves on edge, something that had no real basis in truth. Just a random intuition, something that he might normally shrug off. Until now. The man was clearly itching for something, but Seth hadn't been sure what until the man began using spell after spell.
He hated it when he was right!
He'd gripped Heilyn a little tighter when he saw the mist that began to fill the air, waving it as best he could away from his eyes but finding that it only continued to thicken. He should have taken out the man when he had the chance, damnit all, and he still couldn't see the bastard... But then the man spoke, alerting the keen-eared bat to his location, and Seth whirled, activating an ability of his own a moment after Finistris spoke, snarling out loud now. The damn mist was getting thicker, and he was starting to lose his ability to see!
"So you want a fight?[/b]" the heavy man growled, easing his weapons free of their sheathes and gripping them tightly, but not moving just yet. Instead, he gave Heilyn a sideways glance. They could take out anyone if they acted as a team, he was feeling confident of that fact.
Small Ability He is now able to cast a small spell that causes the saliva in an opponents' mouth to freeze for a full five minutes. This will disallow them to use word-activated spells and either freeze their mouths open or shut until the spell wears off. He can cast this spell once a month.
Ice Power Boost This spell can now be cast once a week and will spread down the opponents throat so that they feel the desperate need to cough and find themselves unable to do so. this will cause them a slight amount of pain and a lot of irritation.

Heilyn had no idea what rank and suit the man was. Add to that she didn't know where he was and the ground was now very slippery. This combination worked all to well for a surprise attack from any angle. It was too hard to dodge properly. She nodded at Seth.
Now was the time for the Heart's very special friend.
In her hands was now a thin Wire, circling her and her only. She kept an eye on Seth, watching for even the tiniest hints of what he might do next. She'd spent enough time with the man to guess at what abilities he would use first, but these were just guesses. He was still incredibly unpredictable at times. She assumed he cast some sort of magic first, since there was a slight tingle in the air of magic over the spells that were already cast by the man.
Just in case he was a Heart, she used her ability to negate any inherent heart abilities he might have. Other than that, she would wait until she saw him. Knowing Seth and his experience, chances were exceedingly high that he'd used an ability that would reveal his location.
[bah, crappy post, but my muse for this thread is comming back! Sorry about the wait. ^^; ]

Finistris smiled and readied himself for another spell. He heard the man growl to him...just the words he wanted to hear as he drew some rather interesting weapons from his belt. Those looked like fun toys...
He began to open his mouth, only to find it snapping shut again of its own accord. What the-? A chilling sensation spilled through his mouth and down his throat, freezing his teeth and making his eyes water with discomfort. What in all hells was this? A force built in the back of his throat and would not die. He needed to cough, badly, but was unable to. He pressed himself against the wall as he tried desperately to get a proper hold on his breathing again. This was new!
He watched the woman sidle closer to the larger man, though she didn't seem to be...wait...
His eyes cleared and he watched something thin appear as if from nowhere and snake its way around her. That was a...it was nothing alive, yet how could it be anything else? He watched it twine about her warily, this could go poorly if that was a summoned weapon and not just an enchanted bit of string...
Not wanting to hesitate further, he sent two spells their way, silently cursing his inability to speak and further activate one of his favorite spells. This he had not foreseen...
Aimed at Seth: Amazing Ability: Once a week, he is capable of causing an opponent's left hand to slowly begin splitting in half along the middle finger. The spell will take a full minute to complete and will continue as far as just before the elbow. The process feels just as bad as it looks, with the arm being torn in two by an invisible force, it can be halted if the caster is knocked unconscious or sufficiently distracted. Aimed at Heilyn:
Moderate Ability: Once a day, he is able to cause an opponent's body to go rigid on one side for a full thirty seconds. This will not allow them to move without stumbling and will cause the force of their own weaponry to often accidentally knock them over. If the creature in question is a Heart, however, it makes their spells almost certain to find him even if he is hidden...
