The very thought of something that cold coming out of her crotch made Donnie shudder. And she thought she had a problem with the Yarrow doctors putting cold instruments in during check-ups! Yeowch.
"So I guess your chilly, floating goo is dormant for the time being?" she asked with the twitch of a smile. How something like that could be inherited, she had no idea. She hadn't even managed to inherit her mother's voice, and neither had her sister. "I'm really going to have to meet his father sometime. This 'Christopher' sounds absolutely obnoxious. I'd probably hate him. Not to belittle your choice of mate, of course. I just don't do well with arrogant man-bitches, despite having been called one before. I take it he's full or partially canine?"
She went to pull one of the chairs from against the wall over to where Mia and Zether sat, relaxing on the lightly padded wood. "I wonder where your Mom is. If anyone took my stuff, I'm going to have to kick some ass." It was said in a conversational tone.

Mia paused, raised an eyebrow, then shrugged. "Yeaahh.. something like that.." He muttered in reply, then quickly changed the subject for good. He wasn't about to explain the necklace and the intricacies of it to this practically-stranger, especially considering he had the feeling he knew maybe 1/5th of them. Damn thing kept cropping up new shit all the time.
The ferret visibly cringed at the thought of her meeting Christopher. "Uhh.. yeah. You will, I'm sure, but you don't want to meet him. You would kill him, he would snark with his dying breath, and then I'd have to raise Zether myself and would be even more of a celibate, bitter old man than I am now. No thank you." He grimaced. "I wouldn't exactly call us mates," He corrected with a sigh, "I don't even know what to call us. Just don't use the word in front of him, please, I'd rather he not leave for another week or two on a whim." Mia stretched a bit where Zether had caused a muscle to fall asleep. "But yes, he's definitely a man-bitch. Saluki, yeah."
He shrugged at the comment about his mother, still lightly grooming through Zether's fur. "No idea. Probably bitching out someone walking on the wrong side of the hallway.."

If even he cringed at the thought of Donnie meeting his mate, she really couldn't wait. Meaning that she could, but would end up being nosy at some point regardless. So long as he only acted superior because of his region, she might be able to tolerate him enough not to hurt him... but then again, such distinctions were hard to make and a superior attitude stung regardless of its source. "Saluki man-bitch who I'm not supposed to call your mate. Right. Providing I get to stay, that should be interesting someday."
Not having her harp on hand was making her fingers twitch, lightly tapping against the wood of the chair arm in a pattern designed to practice and strengthen the finger muscles. Most Villa children with the manual dexterity knew at least one pattern, and any who went through the Villa public school system knew dozens. "Is she really that feisty, or do you just bring out the best in her? It'd be a shame to see it fade when you weren't around to goad her on."

He gave a short laugh and shrugged at her rephrasing. It was accurate, but not exactly pleasing to hear. Was he ever going to lead a normal life? Probably not. It was a stupid question.. "If you want a good laugh out of it, insult his intelligence and watch him get mad. Just don't mention I said to, please, I like my brains where they are." He said with a snort.
The ferret eyed her hand with a raised eyebrow. He'd seen people tap their fingers/paws/digits before, but not in such complex patterns. It was odd, yet fascinating to watch. "I like to imagine I bring out the best in her - though I'd call it worst - but have no fear, she's just as darling the other 23 hours of the day." Mia said sarcastically, hoping she actually wouldn't come back.

"Ooh, insulting the intelligence of an Esterberry? Even I'm not that bad. It's like insulting a Yarrow's gender. Which, granted, I have done... but only once." A very painful, very messy once. Not for her physically, but the situation...
Damn it, Sadie. The memories needed to just die. Like their affection.
She refocused her attention quickly, wiping the small grimace away with a sigh and a slouch back into her chair. "Good to hear, good to hear... I'd hate to see her spine suddenly disappear without a ready-made argument. From what I could see, she had enough personality to keep me on my toes. Is she as knowledgeable about the palace as she is about the kitchens, or is her area of expertise more limited? I need to know what sorts of questions I can expect serious answers to."

"It's fun, really. I've managed to keep all my body parts. There was one incident, though, when I was positive he was going to throw a soup bowl at me, but I was laughing so hard he just left instead. I get a kick out of it, at least." Mia said with a slight grin. Torturing Christopher was just too much fun, at least when the Saluki was in a good mood. When he was in a bad mood, it became painful very quickly. "Insulting a Yarrow's gender? That is something I'd never do. Sounds.. uncomfortable? Painful?" He ventured, unsure of how to describe such a situation.
He was very glad that there were few Yarrows in his life. He found Kahmdens to be bad enough - and at least Donnie was only half Yarrow.
"If that's how you want to see it, I won't argue. Personally, I see it as downright annoying, but I suppose you weren't raised by her, so you can't see all the nagging little details." He replied, not condescendingly, but more of dejected acceptance. "Just the kitchens? HA. She runs this place sometimes. She deals with everything that isn't Noble business -- pretty much the day-to-day happenings of this place. I don't think that's what they intended when they brought her on, but it's what they got." He said with a snort. Vessatha tended to just barge in on situations and takeover them without being asked.

"Most Esterberries don't seem to have an affinity for violence, so that's one advantage," Donnie agreed, smirking. Maybe they would throw a book at you, but she had a feeling that they would sooner save the book than damage it on someone else's head. "Uncomfortable and painful are two words for it, yes. I wouldn't recommend it. We were almost to the point of murder." Or something like that. Nasty business.
His appraisal of Vessatha's influence in the Court caused her eyebrows to raise. "Well, it seems that I've gotten in with a good crowd right off the bat. If she's really got her hand in everything, then she'll be the perfect resource, provided she's willing."
She shifted and sat differently in the chair, willing her irritating human undergarments to stop riding up at the most inconvenient of times. There was no way she could just reach down and adjust things right now.

"Mine has a penchant, if not an affinity," Mia replied with a snort. He usually didn't have marks.. because Christopher knew how not to leave them. Not that Mia particularly cared either way - the less people looked at him, the better.
He frowned slightly. "Good thing it didn't, then?" Was all he could think of to respond with that wasn't extremely cliche. He had even more of a reason to not be around Yarrows though - the possibility of accidentally insulting them was far too high for someone like himself, who tended not to see gender as worth discriminating over. He'd been lucky so far in his lifetime to have not associated with many, but if Donnie was going to be around, no doubt she'd want a few in the Court with her..
He might be throughly screwed.
Mia laughed slightly. "If she likes you I'm sure she will be. Vessatha tends to follow what pleases her." He said bluntly, then shrugged. There was probably some tactful rule about not judging one's own mother, but he really didn't care.

A violent Esterberry. Somehow, that promised to be more entertaining than anything else. She had a feeling that people could sell tickets to an Esterberry death-match and it would turn into a comedy show. The very thought was making her snerk a little in the back of her head.
"Yes, very luck that it stopped where it did," she agreed with a small frown and left it at that. Just remembering the horrible mess that the relationship turned into was like poking at an open sore, or a wound that had been working on scabbing over. She'd thought she would be spending the rest of her life with that woman. Hah. It just went to show how quickly things could change.
One of her elbows plopped down on the chair's armrest and she rested her chin on her knuckles, relaxing a little more. "Here's hoping we don't piss each other the hell off, then. I think I could get to appreciate her if we don't bite each other's heads off first." Speaking of, she could have sworn that she heard footsteps in the hallway, but she couldn't quite tell. Paws tended to be quiet. Maybe it was the slight clicking of claws?

He sat in a semi-uncomfortable silence, unsure of how to continue. Was it a good idea to try to console someone over something that happened a long time ago? Relationships were obviously not his forte. Instead of making a decision, he just gave her a sympathetic smile and stayed silent while she thought.
Mia smiled. "I'm sure you'll be fine. I get along with her, most of the time, we argue mostly on the surface. She doesn't get angry most of the time, either, just irritated - so unless you have a particularly quick temper, I can't see you not working well together." He said wryly.
At that moment, Vessatha walked back in, an eyebrow quirked. "Talking about me again?" She asked, amused, then turned to Donnie. "I finally found the twerp that had your bags, he's coming. Need anything else while I'm here?"
Mia took that as his cue to leave, and rose with Zether still sound asleep in his arms. "See you around, Donnie? I'm just down the hall if you need anything."
