Haret's thoughts were continuing down the path of knowing just what to pursue in honour of the late Queen of Spades, though she would have been sorely displeased to hear that Colin knew only ugly rumours of the wonderful woman. Her opinion, however, could be slightly biased.
Still, the Five's suggestion left her only one course of action, one she found rather ironic. When she had lived in Villa en Miir with the girls, they had been almost equi-distant with the Court of Spades as she was now. Seeking answers here now appeared to be a waste of time.
Well, not entirely, since she'd met some interesting people and now here was a man who was kindly offering her direction despite the fact that they didn't even really know each other.
"I think. . . . I must follow your suggestion." Her voice was still low, but there was a hint of determination in it now. "I will carry on with her legacy." Her tone drooped suddenly, however, with her next words. "Though I'm not even certain how to do that."

Colin was nearly finished with his sandwich by the time that Haret finally spoke again. His mind had been wandering a bit, going back to the piece of piano music that had been frustrating him earlier that day. He could now tell where he had gone wrong with it, and why, and went over the tune in his mind, head bobbing slightly and claws twitching subconsciously.
He abruptly snapped back to reality as he heard the woman's low voice, blinking at her as if she were a spirit come to wake him from a dream. He smiled at her, feeling a swell of pride at being able to help her. But then...she still seemed unsure. Bolstered by his earlier social success, he decided to offer what help he could again.
"Well, what do you know about her?" he prompted her gently. "What were her goals in life? She was the Queen of Spades, quite an important position. What did she use her power to do?" Besides trying to help Haret think of ways to carry on the late Queen's legacy, Colin was also honestly curious about this woman.

Haret had to shake her head negatively as the man very kindly tried to help her out. The problem was, "I just don't know." The colour rose beneath her dark fur again and she ducked her head instinctively to try and hide it. Her very demeanour, however, would prove just how embarrassed she was.
What did she know about the late Queen of Spades? Queen Lysaras was kind-hearted and gentle and very understanding and forgiving of each person's individual faults and problems. She was the epitome of gentleness. Haret remembered their brief meeting so fondly. The Queen had been so. . . perfect. She'd listened to Haret's nervous, uneasy plea and had been so wonderful that she had granted it and, with that had been so wonderful as to grant the canine the bipedal form that gave her freedom. It was. . . amazing. Perfect. Haret owed the deceased woman so much.

"...oh." Colin shifted a bit awkwardly. He didn't mean to embaress the woman; he was just trying to help her feel better! Then again, maybe it really WAS a lost cause. Had he forgotten her Realm already? He pushed the bitter thoughts away with a sigh, suddenly wishing he had paid a bit more attention to politics in the past. Then maybe he would have known the answer to his own questions. As it was, there was certainly no need for the other woman to feel bad...after all, it was Colin's own Court, he of anyone in this conversation should know something about Lysaras.
But maybe SOMEone...did. He tilted his head, finishing the rest of his lunch as he considered this train of thought. "Do you know anyone else who knew her?" he asked next, eyes focused back on the woman. "Or certainly, there must be others who knew of her...those of her own Suit who were more interested in what went on in the Court." He paused, head tilting down slightly as he wondered if he needed to clarify this statement, but then decided that his ignorance on the late Queen spoke for itself. He made a sudden vow to, in the future, be more attentive toward Court matters. It would certainly help when talking with other Spades he felt the need to impress.

Haret laced her fingers together and stared down at them for a long moment before her eyes trailed to the purple hair that twisted up her arms. It was her binding, her own personal curse to help free her region. It wasn't something that was well understood outside of Torquehelm and, she would admit, it wasn't as though Torque residents went out of their way to explain to outsiders. It wasn't something others should be burdened with; it was, after all, their curse. If she realized that Colin had such a low opinion of her region, she would have understood and smiled sadly, but it was unlikely that she could try to help him understand.
He had yet another very valid point, however, and a spark of hope lit her purple eyes. A small smile curved her lips yet again. "You are a very smart person," she complimented him softly. "I wish I could think of such things. . ."

Colin couldn't help but smile and puff out his chest slightly at the compliment, feeling the stroking of his ego that, if he was honest, was more than half the reason he was trying to help advise the poor woman in the first place. The smile of his beak wavered slightly at the self-depreciating remark that followed it, however. Why did people do that to themselves? Admitting your faults was one thing, but letting them depress you...well, that was similar to giving up, which was something Colin had vowed he would never do. Ah well, he would focus on the good and leave the Torque to her own self esteem...issues.
"Thanks," he chirped, trying not to sound too happy. "I'm just glad I could help you out a bit." Thoughtfully, he turned to gaze out the window...and started slightly in alarm. What time was it? How long had he been gone? He'd promised his Mother to show for dinner tonight...
"I'm sorry, Ma'am, but it is getting late and...I fear I must take my leave of you," he said, standing up and carefully stretching his wings a bit. He hopped over to her (not too close, of course, he still needed his personal space) and gave her a reassuring smile. "Thank you for lunch, and tea, it was lovely."
He dug out several coins from a small satchel and held them out to her; it should be enough to pay for the meal plus a fairly generous tip. "I wish you the best of luck in finding out more about the late Queen, and continuing her legacy in honor of the favor she granted you," he added softly.
((ooc: so...I was thinking we could wrap this up in a few posts if it's okay with you? :3 ))

She probably wasn't as depressed about her lesser cognitive skills as he thought; she, at least, would argue that she was simply being honest about her capabilities versus, say, his own. Still, she was unaware of his thoughts and could hardly react to the racial bias he held so justifiably.
She put out her hands to accept the coins, quickly dropping a curtsy/bow thing as she had been trained to do. "Your patronage is always appreciated, sir," the Torquehelm said before standing back upright again and giving the man a more genuine smile. "And thank you very much for all of your advice. I hope I will be able to follow it."
She stepped swiftly out of his way, and bobbed her head again a bit more shyly. "I wish you luck in your personal journey." She was blushing again, of course, but hoped he could hear the sincerity in her tone.

Colin smiled in what was probably the sincerest expression of good naturedness he'd worn all day. He returned her bow with a slight forward tilt of his head, feeling at this moment relieved he hadn't broken anything during lunch. Possibly, it had helped to have someone to talk to, and it actually amazed Colin that he'd enjoyed the conversation. Certainly, he'd learned a valuable lesson about why staying up to date on Court politics was important as well as getting some wonderful ego stroking.
"You are very welcome," he returned with a smile, and then turned to head for the door, stopping just shy of it to turn and deliver a final farewell. "Perhaps I shall stop by again on my nest visit to the Capital, as it has been a pleasure, Miss..." He paused, an odd look coming over his face, and a wing passed over his eyes briefly.
"I'm terribly sorry, but I seem to have forgotten to ever properly introduce myself, and I don't know your name either, I'm afraid," he said with no small bit of embaressment tinging his tone. Normally it wouldn't have bothered him, but it seemed odd to spend a good half hour talking with someone and then leave not knowing what to call them, should their paths ever cross again.
"My name is Colin," he stated, with a sheepish look.

The fact that they didn't know each other's names caused her colour to deepen slightly, though not because she was surprised by the lack of introductions. It did mean, however, that she hadn't done her job correctly; she was supposed to introduce herself when she brought in the drinks! Normally the patrons, however, didn't bother with introducing themselves back. And she quickly ducked her head again.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Colin. I am Narcissus Ma'aharet Corialoske; please feel free to call me Haret." She sincerely hoped he would stop by again whenever he next might come through the Capital; she found him pleasant and kind as well as intelligent. It wasn't often that a patron would truly treat her so well; normally it was a sort of off-handed kindness granted to those you might never see again. "It would be wonderful to see you again should you ever come this way."

Colin manuevored to properly face the woman as they exhanged pleasantries, tail feathers brushing against the door to the cafe. Hopefully no one would try to come in right then...she seemed a bit ashamed of herself as well, but Colin wasn't about to be the one to call her on not doing her job. After all, she was apparently very distracted lately with the death of the Queen. Besides, Colin should have been the gentleman and introduced himself as soon as they had stopped talking only about food and started with the deeper topics.
He nodded, taking in the long and fairly impressive name. He mentally went over it a few times, not wanting to forget it, even if he'd only ever need to use the nickname in the future. A name like that was worth remembering.
"Of course, Haret. The pleasure is all mine," he said graciously, with a final smile. At this point, he was fully intending to return to this spot whenever he was in need of a quick meal in this city. He raised a wing to her in salute, and left the building, taking to flight soon after, mind buzzing with thoughts the conversation with Haret had put in his mind. First things first, he needed to visit some of his relatives and find out more about the late Queen, and the current state of affairs in the Court of Spades...
((....gah! XD I think we are one post shy of a long rp...unless you have something else to add. XP It's been fun though and I hope we can rp again sometime. ^^))
