Mnem reigned in her natural impulse to tell Shinrai to take his bizarre ideas and go fuck himself sideways with them. He typically had no more qualms about sleeping around than she did, and expecting their children to take celibacy vows until they were too old to have sex at all was a laughable notion. For the love of hookah-smoking caterpillars, she didn't understand him somtimes. But continuing the argument would accomplish nothing--if Maji left all by her lonesome, Shinrai would just linger on to yell ridiculous nonsense about teenage chastity and she'd spend the rest of the day in a very unrelaxing rage.
"Maji," she said, with stiff tranquility, "kindly sit down and enjoy your tea. Shinrai, please do so also. We can continue this particular conversation at a later date. You are being very inconsiderate in front of the guest, and it is reflecting on both of us poorly."

The stallion's ears flattened tightly against his skull and he tried to figure out the best response. Maji looked halfway to terrified and he felt a bit guilty about, even as he mentally agreed that it might be best of her to come again another day. But if she left on this little scene, she'd make sure to never return.
The stallion clenched his hands tightly for a moment then released them with a soft breath out. Okay, he would not traumatize Maji; she didn't seem the least bit sure of herself and he was unwilling to take a chance that she could view the encounter the same way he would have.
"Yes, Maji, I'm sorry for losing my temper. I'll save that for Mnem later." He smiled to make it a joke, his tone lightly, but grey-green eyes flashed slightly before he concentrated on trying to calm the eagle down. "Despite this new knowledge. . . " He allowed on the slightest of hesitations, unwilling to just fully cover up wot had occurred between the children. "We would hate for you to leave with such an impression of our family. I was. . . simply surprised." Understatement of the whole freakin' world. Nevertheless, he still smiled genuinely at her, willing her to feel welcomed anyway.

Maji was nervous and it showed, there was no way for her to hide it and she hesitated for a little bit before finally deciding to sit back down though she did not touch her tea or any of the cookies.
She looked down at the floor and just sat rigidly still as her hands clasped and unclasped as many thoughts ran through her head. She felt at fault for the out burst. Aeron was her son and she had to be responsible because she had raised him right? However she had never once talked to the boy about sex and relations, In fact she was scared of them. it had been about 16 years or so since her last encounter and she did not want to think about it. In fact some nights she had nightmares because of it and the events that followed.
Slowly she began to look up at her host and the other guest. She bearly knew Rai and Mnem she had just met really. She did not know what to do or say she was at a complete loss.
"Ummm....t..thank you for having me...even if it has not turned out very well..." she said softly still very unsure of herself.

"Well," said Mnem, calmly, "who said that? Drink your tea; it's quite relaxing."
This twice-cursed tea party from hell was going to turn out damn well, if she had anything to say about it. Well for her, at least. Maybe she could spike the drinks, and make it some very relaxing tea indeed. She shot Maji a sidelong glance. Though she didn't know if Maji would deduce that she had gotten horizontal while doped up, Shinrai would likely figure out that he'd been drugged. He had an awful lot of experience with it, after all.
Her tiny, annoying kitchen timer went off. Brownies were done, then. She had even been making them for Iphis, the little snot, before he had pulled this tea party bollocks. He could eat dirt now, for all she cared. Though...perhaps this would be preferable to the tea. She politely excused herself, went to the kitchen, and pulled the sweets out of the oven.
And then quickly and quietly swapped them with the other brownies she kept in a locked little cabinet for special occasions. "Not quite done!" she said, cheerfully, and tossed the new batch into the oven to heat up. She didn't plan on letting either of them ingest very much--her stash was damn hard to procure and hell if she was going to waste all of it on them--but enough to...loosen everyone up.
She set the brownies down, and took a cheerful bite out of one. "Delicious," she said. "I do insist you try. Family recipe."

"The day is still young," Rai offered as well, trying to put Maji at ease. "And our get-together--" He could even say that calmly and with a straight face despite a desire to shoot Mnem a dark, angry look. "--Isn't over yet."
Mnem rose and headed for the kitchen and Rai let her go without a word, focusing his attention on the eagle instead. She seemed almost unbearably shy and upset at this point and it reminded him-- a bit unpleasantly-- of someone, though he couldn't remember who. He put that from his mind, however, to try and draw the woman out of her shell. Surely she wasn't always this introverted? He seemed to remember her being a bit more open at the park that one day.
"Wot have you been doing with yourself, Maji?" he asked kindly, absently accepting a brownie from Mnem but not taking a bite.

Maji watched Mnem leave the room and nodded a agreement response to both of their reassurances and slowly picked up her tea and began to sip it. They were trying to make her feel more comfortable so she figured that she would try and relax a little bit.
When Mnem returned she took one of the brownies she had been offered, but did not take a bite, first she answered Rai.
"Not really much...just taking care of my home, the banders, working..." she really did not do much any more, things were just getting harder and harder to deal with as time went on. "I do not really do much...I might take a small walk but mostly I just stay inside..." she had learned from her co workers and had been reminded many times by her son that this habit was unhealthy, but she just could not bear to leave the house most of the time.
Slowly she lifted the brownie to her mouth and chewed. It was not bad, nothing like she had ever tasted before.

Mnem sipped at her own tea, and made a vow to herself to try to keep her part in the dialogue reserved to steering the conversation in the direction she wanted it to go. She took a smile bite of brownie. There was nothing quite so satisfying as a dessert well-made. Perhaps when Shinrai and Maji were gone, she would just sprawl on the couch and enjoy a bit of grass. Not even Helena would be able to irritate her.
She leaned back comfortably in the chair. "You're not the only one. I don't think dear Shinrai hardly gets out of Court at all." She might have paid to be a fly on the wall during their post-coital pillow talk. Nothing like a crippling lack of a social life to get the conversation hopping. They could chat about jobs, kids, and possibly getting drunk. Exhilarating. "Busy job, you know. But everyone needs to get out and take a break."

Rai gave a small snort as Mnem leapt to his 'defense'-- a response that set off a warning flag in the back of his mind-- but the goal was to help Maji feel comfortable, so that, apparently, meant no loud noises or sudden movements. So he purposefully kept his voice level and just went along with Mnem's conversation prodding.
"This is too true," Rai admitted with an easy smile, meant to help set Maji further at ease. "It's difficult when you get so wrapped up in work that you can't seem to find any leisure time. Wot kind of banders do you have? How many?" His interest was seriously perked, actually. He greatly enjoyed his two little banders and hoped to one day breed the pair if Sultana was ever amiable to the idea. He watched the woman carefully hoping to strike a thread of like-interests rather than set her on edge again.
