Corvistowne was a rather desolate seeming place...dilapidated buildings and unattended weedy gardens...it should have been the sort of place where Eldryia thrived. The sort of place she loved. Not the sort of place she...got lost in. Unfortunately, after a while one building began to look much like another, and no matter how many times the cat reminded herself that she couldn't really be lost, since she didn't really have a destination in mind, it was getting hard to continue. She was tired, and it was probably late at night, though she had no way of knowing the exact time. If she didn't find somewhere to stay soon, she may just curl up by the side of the road and be done with it. Not like she hadn't done that before in her travels. The most frustrating thing, Eldy thought, is that there was no one around...at least, no one who didn't look like they would use her for an experiment before she so much as asked directions to the nearest hotel. And there were few of these. When she didn't want to be found, there were always people around. But when she was actually walking in plain sight in the middle of the road, waiting for someone to notice her...well. Then there was no one! Stifling a yawn, she took another tired pawstep, binding feeling heavier with each inch she had to drag it.

Hatter was wandering. He did that from time to time, if the lab got to be too stuffy or he just needed to clear his head. A nice little walk almost always proved fruitful: you met new people, you found something new and interesting, or you found a flash of brilliance in someone else's conversation. Currently, with no goal in mind, Hatter was just winding down the less used streets and humming happily to himself when he heard an unfamiliar noise. Like metal dragging on cobbles. Clank, sliiiiide. The human paused, brows arching in surprise at the sight he lighted on. What did he have here? A Torquehelm kitty cat? His mind jumped to his Peaches and switched up his form just enough to permit a very unavian purr to escape him -- he so did love a cat's purr! "'Ello there!" he abruptly called out, voice overly cheerful to compensate for the crushing exhaustion that seemed to be overshadowing the feline. "Don't think I've seen a Torque like you around here before, what brings you?" The Hatter chuckled fondly and eyed her once over, his mind kept tumbling back to Peaches but he didn't think much of it. Her daughter was a fluffy Queen, this cat was shorthair and a 6. "You look pretty tired, miss.. Why don't you come back with me and I'll treat you to tea~?"It never hurt to bring wanderers home. Most of the time he just treated them to tea, but sometimes they had other uses...

Somewhere through the tired, endless walking, Eldy thought she may have heard footsteps, but nothing really registered until there was suddenly a voice, calling out to her loudly and cheerfully. The cat whirled around to stare at the newcomer in the way only a cat can. Her tail fluffed up a bit in surprise. She hated being snuck up on! It proved even more that she was tired, and had need to accept this...stranger's offer.
Her ears pointed towards him, and she eyed the man warily. "Hi...I'm really just...passing through." She didn't want to admit she was lost, and she could think of no better way to describe her wandering right now. "Thank you for the offer...I've been walking for a long time, so that'd be great." She didn't entirely trust him, but didn't have many options right at the moment. If something bad happened because she followed a stranger, hey, at least it would be exciting. And really, that was the point of all this...to get out of the palace and actually live a little.
Besides, there was something...bothering her about the man, and she didn't know what. Something she felt she should be able to pick up, if only she wasn't so exhausted.

Hatter met the puffed up feline with a wide, a little off, smile and watched her slowly un-fluff her tail as she spoke. Not the most trusting kitty in the world, which was typically good in places like this. Otherwise 'just passing through' typically wound up as 'chained up in a mad scientist's basement'.
Hatter didn't want to see that happen to this one... not when the only thing he could seem to think of while talking to her was Peaches.
Peaches was a shorthair Torque feline? Hadn't she mentioned another kiddo...?
Oh well.
He'd figure all that out later. For now he'd enjoy the situation at hand. She looked like she'd be an interesting sort once she was rested up and ready to talk. "It's no problem at all, miss! It's always a pity to have tea time without guests, so we're doing each other a favor, hm?" The human tipped his hat and bowed briefly. "I suppose, as a proper host, I should introduce myself: I am Hatter, and you are?"

"I...guess so," Eldy said hesitantly, her good ear tilting backwards. That smile was quite unnerving. Still, she found her weary paws continuing to follow the colorfully-dressed man back to wherever he was leading her. At least there would be tea...and possibly food? Food would be good. She vaguely recalled that there was somewhere she'd been recommended for food here...ah, right. Loretta's bed and breakfast. However, given that she was lost, there wasn't much chance of her finding it, especially in time to not collapse. Maybe she could ask the man about it later?
She dipped her head a bit when he bowed, smiling hesitantly. "Nice to meet you, I'm Eldryia." Suddenly, she stopped stiff, fur standing on end once more and eyes wide. "You..." She pointed at him with a paw, looking shocked. "You're Hatter! THE Hatter!" She shook her head, cursing her exhaustion. She was probably confusing him. "Sorry, sorry, what I mean to say is...you...know my mom." Actually, they were good friends from what little she knew of him, which was not much.
((ooc: Due to timeline weirdness, yes, Eldy has lost her ear by this point. >_>;; ))

Hatter paused when she mentioned her name, stopping dead in midstep as her fur quickly bristled and she began to point.
Eldryia? OH! Eldy!? Ha! Lookit that!
The Hatter suddenly let out a loud bark of laughter, grinning widely. Any spawn of his Peaches was a friend of his! "Well, isn't this a wonderful surprise! I am the very same... and probably the only one! And you must be Peaches' daughter! I thought you had an uncanny resemblance! It's a pleasure to get to meet you in person!" The Joker resumed his stride, strolling backwards as he spoke. "So, what brings you all the way out to Corvistowne, Eldy? You look like you've been traveling for a while."
Especially considering that ear... had to make you wonder what sort of rough spots the girl had gotten herself into. She was still pretty young.
Maybe he'd take her by Loreta's place later? Lore probably wouldn't be happy, but keeping her there was potentially safer than having her discover Marchie. He'd been acting a bit odd lately... moreso than usual.

He...was laughing? Well, she supposed that was a better reaction than some...getting angry at her, for instance, or making awkward excuses to get rid of her now because she was weird. Though really...anyone who was friends with her mom couldn't have been too easily weirded out. She...did have a random doll of her dead brother in her room.
"Yeah, you got it in one," she said, laughing a bit nervously, but her fur smoothing back down again now that she was calm. "And thanks. I could say the same. Mom talks about you...well, more than she talks about anyone else in her life." Which was to say not much. Peaches could be a very private person when she wanted to be, but Eldy had heard enough about Hatter to be...slightly less worried about his intentions and character.
"I've been on the road for...a few...months, I suppose," she agreed, shrugging. "Since I was living in one place most of my life, I figured it was time I got out and saw...everything. Or well, a lot of things, at least. There are some Realms I intend to avoid." Her ear flicked, wondering for a moment how he could manage to walk backwards, but then again maybe it was like how she'd learned to move silently with heavy metal ball attached to one leg: lots of practice.

The Hatter couldn't stop his grinning. This was great! And to hear that Peaches talked about him made him feel incredibly content. "Is that so? Your mother's a wonderful woman: the most perfect stranger I've ever had the pleasure having tea with." Only glancing over his shoulder to turn a corner, Hatter kept his attention primarily on Eldy.
"Months? I know how that is, once you get out there it's hard to stop. I enjoy traveling a great deal myself." How often did he really stay still? Well, a lot lately... His projects were slowly consuming him but he was so close... oh, wait, he was on a different subject. Oh yes, one-eared Eldy was talking about avoiding realms. "Where have you been so far? Any stories to tell?" He glanced at her ear as he spoke. Obviously that was some sort of story, no?
Whatever the case, he was looking forward to it. Stories and secrets went wonderfully well with tea.

Eldy managed a real smile at that. After all, she loved and respected her mother a lot, but most other people she ran into seemed to have a rather low opinion on her, or at least couldn't bring her up without mentioning a lot of her flaws. Even Lore hadn't said something that complimentary...in fact she'd told Eldy not to ever tell Peaches she'd ran into her. Maybe there was a reason she'd never heard the bird's name before.
"It is kind of...fun to wander, though I'm afraid a good chunk of that time was spent wasting time in the Capital, heh." She shook her head. It had taken a while to actually get herself to go somewhere unfamiliar, but once she had, it had been fun. Well, for the most part. She couldn't help but notice his stare, and gave a mirthless smile. "Sadly, that's the one story I've promised not to tell...though you could get it in part, I suppose, as long as identities weren't given. If you're curious." She wasn't going to break a promise made on her Heart pride, though.

Hatter's mood was really quite bright at the moment. Eldy looked to be a lot like her dear mother, so full of secrets and stories. If only he were better at sneaking and watching then maybe he'd find some delicious stories too... Or he could continue to get his fix of secrets from his mischievous ceiling cat.
"I must admit I am quite curious... And secret stories, even half of one, are always the best stories."
On the thought of secrets and ears, Hatter's thoughts momentarily wandered and, for a split second, Eldy would notice Hatter's expression switch from joy to thought and then stretch back into a wide Cheshire Cat grin as his mind settled on an idea. "Did you know," he mentioned a little offhandedly, "that Rabbits consider a lady with a missing ear to be of higher status?" Would she believe him? It'd be intriguing to find out her opinion if nothing else.
