Colin walked in step beside the mouse in the odd little hopping way birds had, still being noisy about it, and not seeming bothered by the slow speed. He held his head high and his chest puffed out as they walked, not ashamed at all to be seen with his friend, no matter his state. Colin would hold dignity for both of them, if need be. He shot chilling looks at some of those who were staring more overtly, expecting at least a double take, but really, they didn't have to be so obvious about it! Some people were just rude.
Unaware of the mouse's dark thoughts, Colin was occupied with thinking about the Palace's construction again, unconsciously starting the stairs on foot, before he stopped short and looked over as Ichigo spoke. "Oh...yes...perhaps that would be best," Colin said haltingly, trying to keep the worried tone out of his voice and not entirely succeeding. Glancing down at the stairs and back at the mouse, he almost wistfully wished he were a Club, so he could carry his friend...though that would be demeaning, but at least safer. "See you at the bottom," he said with a slight bow, extending his wings and stretching a bit before taking off and flying the short distance to the landing below, where, after checking furtively on the mouse, he turned and examined a tapestry that had been hung on one wall, admiring it.

He stared blankly at his own feet. Okay. He could do this. He took another step down, carefully attempting to keep his balance. If only... he had some way to bend the stupid thing at the knee.
And then he slipped. The unforgiving ice made his feet give from under him. Cursing, loudly, he started a rough decent down the stairs. The ice clanking as he made it's way down. It was ungraceful. It hurt. And he felt like a moron. On the bright side he was at least falling in the same direction and wouldn't land upside down or anything.
Then he hit the bottom with a huge resounding thud. He gave a pained sigh as he struggled to get back on his feet. "I just... need a minute. I'm fine." They were entirely too close to his room for him to give up, and he wasn't going back to the doctor. Not yet. He remained flopped there for a minute to catch his breath.

Colin, absorbed as he was in the tapestry and trying not to make Ichigo feel awkward, had no prior warning when the mouse slipped, and therefore jumped about a foot in the air, feathers all puffed up in alarm, at the sound of the mouse falling down the stairs. He let out an undignified squawk, his eyes wide, and rushed back towards the foot of the stairs, though not sure what to do.
"Ichigo!" he cried in distress, though before he could ask if the mouse was okay, he seemed to anticipate the question. Glancing over him worriedly, Colin saw no outward sign of any further injury...possibly a few bruises beneath the fur, but nothing big. Other than the large sheet of ice coating his forearm. With a deep breath, Colin backed up a bit to give the mouse some air, forcing his feathers to smooth down. He tilted his head. "...maybe it will help once you get your biped?" he suggested tentatively, not that he knew how to go about such a thing, himself. But he could imagine it would at least be easier to walk down stairs without...well...embarrassing yourself.

The mouse sighed. He honestly felt like an idiot, but there was nothing he could really do to fix that. At the suggestion of a bipedal form he shrugged. "I think that's the lowest priority on my list of things to do."
Considering he had to relearn how to wield a sword with one hand made of ice. Not to mention he had to regain proper balance. Two legs would probably throw off his balance until he learned how to do everything properly all over again.
Stupid ring. It screwed everything up for him.
After a struggle he managed to get to his feet. "All right, it's just down the hall there on the end." He motioned with his head in the general direction. It would be another small trek of clunking until they reached his room. Since it was only for a single person, it was rather small. However, it was quite neatly organized, everything in it's proper place, the bed neatly made. There weren't many trinkets minus a small box that was sitting on the top of the dresser.
It was an overall plain neat room.
"Make yourself comfortable."

"Of course, sorry to...mention it," Colin muttered, lowering his head in shame. Geez, who knew the afternoon could suddenly turn so...awkward? It almost made the bird wish he'd insisted on waiting for lunch. Maybe then, the ring would never have come to Ichigo, and...he shook his head. Now was no time for 'what ifs'; that never solved any situation. Least of all one like this, when the results were so tangible.
Colin fought to stay still as the mouse struggled to get up. He almost opened his beak, an offer for assistance on the edge of his tongue, before Ichigo finally managed to get up. Shutting his mouth quickly, the bird nodded and turned, walking in silence back to the room alongside his friend. As he entered the small room, Colin once again felt rather...awkward. He nodded to the mouse's offer to make himself comfortable, but didn't make any move to sit down, instead remaining where he was, shifting nervously from one foot to the other. He was pleased by how neat the room was, however. One could tell a great many things about a person by their living space. "Nice place," he choked out, and managed a smile. Really, he would have liked the mouse to say he needed some time alone and for the cardinal to go amuse himself for a few hours...then he could see the rest of the Court and...avoid all this awkwardness. Sigh. Maybe this was why he didn't have many friends...he kinda sucked at it.

It was hard to ignored the tension that was filling the air. He looked over to Colin, his expression rather serious. "You can just go and knock on the door at the end of the hall and ask him to show you around the palace. I don't want you to be uncomfortable."
This was really silly. Stupid even. There was no point in having the cardinal stay here and feel awkward the entire time. It was counter productive, and would generally make the mouse a bad friend. He stood up and clunked towards his bed, once he was there he sat down looking up at it.
No, he was so sleeping on the floor tonight. The mouse sighed hoping that the bird wouldn't stick around if he was going to be so awkward. Either way the mouse undid the buckle to his belt, letting his sword slip to the floor. He was pretty sure they would notify everyone that he wouldn't be working the rest of today... or tomorrow for that matter.

"Oh, well, it's fine," Colin protested, frantically trying to ignore the tension in the room. "Thank you for your concern, but I would feel like a bad friend if I just...left." He offered the mouse a small, supportive smile, though the feathers on his neck stood slightly on end. He knew how to deal with a lot of tough situations, knew every social faux paus in the book and how to (hopefully) avoid them, but this...well, they had never exactly covered "what to do if your friend suddenly becomes cursed and loses use of one of his legs while he's showing you around the Palace" in basic manners class.
Maybe it would be best if he...made a dignified exit. He stood up a bit straighter, eyes on the mouse's face and not looking at his bad arm. "Although you probably would just like to rest after such an...eventful day, and I would hate to impose on your hospitality when you're feeling a bit stressed." Surely that was an understatement. "With your permission, I think I will take my leave." He made a deep bow towards the mouse, and was already backing out of the room before he was fully standing again. "Thank you again for showing me the Palace, and I do hope you adjust soon," he chirped at the door, saluting the mouse one final time. "Farewell, my friend. Keep in touch!"
And then, only pausing long enough to hear what Ichigo would say in return, Colin gently closed the door and made his way down the hall. He figured he could just...wander around by himself, deciding a bit of alone time would be like a breath of fresh air after so much awkwardness. He really did wish the mouse the best in learning to cope with his new limb, but it wasn't like he could do much about it. This wasn't at all the way he had wanted this visit to go...he could only hope this didn't bode ill for his own future.

It was still slightly awkward, honestly the tension in the air could be cut with a knife. The mouse turned to look at Colin as he spoke, his expression practically blank until the bird paused. A small cordial smile slipped onto his face. "It's fine. Though you can still spend the night at the palace if you like. I do hope... despite this that you enjoyed your stay somewhat."
He gave a small half bow. Formalities. They tended to make things a lot easier. Once the bird had slipped out and the mouse was left alone he stared at the door for a bit. Tomorrow was going to be difficult. Hell. Every day after tomorrow was going to be difficult until he got used to this. The mouse's tail curled at the unpleasant thoughts that popped up. He took a few deep breaths to clear his head.
Everything would be fine, and he'd probably send a letter to Colin once everything was settled.
