Seth felt himself tense with the noises coming from inside of the dilapidated building. He'd remembered the warning to announce himself before coming up, and for a moment he wondered how he was supposed to do that. Jak saved him the effort, of course, by suddenly appearing in the window.
For a moment, the bat wondered if this was the same boy. The Avington colors and bulky bull body were a stark contrast from the bipedal ferret form that he'd seemed to favor during his last visit. He looked the bull over questioningly, and blinked. Ahh, yes. Goggles and... a scarf. Hadn't the insane little creature mentioned a scarf before? His brain refused to process the fact that it was less scarf and more eyeball, because every time he looked at it that closely his stomach did an awkward little flip.
"Heya, Jak,[/b]" he said cheerfully as he watched his daughter closely. It was easy to be cheerful when the boy was wearing a normal body like this. It was also easy when he saw the look on Rhiannon's face.
Served her right for abandoning her children.
The coyote hybrid's eyes went wide with horror and disbelief as she stared at the child standing in front of her. Grampa? And had Seth called him... Jak? No, it wasn't true. Couldn't be true. A strangled whine escaped her from somewhere deep and primal, and she felt herself scrambling to get away. Of course, her father gripped her by the ruff.
"There... there must be some mistake,[/b]" she said, laughing softly as she looked at the boy. "M-my son, he's... he's a Highland mix, and a.. N-not a bull![/b]"
But then the bull stared and spoke and there was no dismissing it. He'd recognized her, called her mom, spoken with the voice that she now realized that only her freak of a son could have. It was familiar but something she hadn't even thought about since she'd left them - only had nightmares. "Jak... how...[/b]" her confusion was clear even under her terror. How could he even still be alive, let alone looking relatively... normal?

Jak shifted his weight from one hoof to another and stared between the two of them. Grampa Seth seemed pretty easy with everything. He was even cheerful and pleasant and looked just fine. But Mom...
...didn't look happy to see him at all. That hurt, kinda. Sorta. A lot. She even looked scared of him, but that was no different. He just got so used to seeing her happy, or whatever her mood was in that pretty place. "Mom? Um... no mistake. Yeeeah. It just sorta happens. When I want it to." He pointed at his chest and the Eight of Spades he'd put there vanished into nothingness, and then reappeared as a Two of Diamonds. And then a Queen of Hearts. "You never liked that there was nothing, so now, there's always something. Unless I'm just being me. But I can be aaaanything you want me to, Mom."
He shifted into a bipedal cat, still an Avington, and slunk forward to rub against her.

Amhalghaidh nodded at Jak as he went to go investigate the noise. He began to get incredibly uncomfortable as he heard voices. Usually there was a shriek and who ever was trying to get in ran away. Why.... why were they talking?! He began to shake a little as fear set in. He didn't handle it very well when things didn't go as he wanted. He... didn't like the thought of meeting up with anyone that wasn't Jak... but he could throw his fear ability from afar... But getting close didn't sit well with him. He got up from his spot and crept toward the door. He froze when he saw who it was. He began to hyperventilate. No words could express his rage. "You..." he hissed, then screamed, "YOU GET OUT OF HERE YOU... YOU BITCH! YOU GODDAMN FUCKING BITCH WHORE CUNT!" he screamed obscenities he'd learned from listening to the the people talk in this part of town. They all can tumbling out of his in a rather nonsense order. Hadrian had followed the pair. He'd never imagined someone of his size and usual lack of grace could be so stealthy. The way Dad had grabbed her and dragged her away... it had terrified him. He just needed to make sure she would be okay. Dad would never... but he just had to know for sure...

This was far too much. Rhiannon's whole body stiffened as she looked at the child who claimed to be her own, and as much as she wanted to... there was no way for her not to believe his words. The smile, even under the different face of the bull, seemed to stretch to infinity in her mind. And his voice, with the eerie and unnatural drawl.. She felt herself shiver, even as she tried to clear her mind. This was her child. She'd spent... she'd spent years ignoring his defects to the best of her ability, why couldn't she ignore them now?
But whatever it was that he was doing now made her feel sick. She could feel the bile in the back of her throat as the marking changed again and again, flashing back to the disgusting nothing that she'd always remembered him having. She could feel the world begin to fade around her, and it sounded odd for a second - she flashed back to a memory from years ago, of Jak trying to get a smile from her and putting a long cardboard tube over his snout and talking through it.
She had smiled, hadn't she? Maybe even laughed. So long as she hadn't looked at her horrific child, it was easy to laugh at his jokes. When... when had he become so fucking insane on top of it all?
She was pulled from the brink of unconsciousness as the boy, suddenly a feline, bumped up against her. A soft noise came from somewhere deep inside her, a noise of loss. "I'm... Suits, Jak. I thought you'd died.[/b]" the statement was finished with a keening whimper as she forced her body still. She couldn't show him how freaked out she was. If she did, he'd try to cheer her up... And she really couldn't deal with that. "I'm sorry,[/b]" she whispered.
The cry from above took away any chance she had to say more. Her ears pinned themselves back as she took in the sight of her other hideously deformed child, screaming obscenities like a banshee. She shifted uncertainly, part of her wanting to bolt before Amhal could do more than scream. Seth just stared up in horror. So that was was Jak meant by jellyfish. In all honesty, it was far worse in reality than he'd ever imagined it could have been, and for what was certainly not the first time, he wished he'd never gotten involved.

Jak hadn't noticed his brother coming out, still staring up at his mother with red eyes that didn't fit at all with his Avington look. The feline face was structured a lot like his father's, since that was the first person he saw when he thought 'cat'. His jellyfish brother was the first person he saw when he thought 'kitty'.
And Mom was... apologizing? To him? His face brightened like the sun coming out on a cloudy day. "Oh, Mom, that's okay. You're back now, right? Grampa brought you back. We're still family." He would never deny his family, never-ever.
Which was why his brother's enraged scream made his back bristle and his tail poof up in surprise like a pipe-cleaner. That had not been a nice noise. He swiveled his head slowly, wide red eyes staring at his furious brother's flappy face. That was distressing. Extremely distressing. Why was Amhal getting so worked up? Of course he was mad with her, but really... family! "Aww, c'mon Awwwwleeee, it's Mom! It's family. You never got to meet Grampa! He's really hairy, and a bat. Like Dell!"
He slunk towards his brother, ears half-back in concern, and made to rub up against him too.

Amhalghaidh continued to screech obscenities until he went hoarse, which didn't take long as he only ever spoke in a hushed voice to Jak. His vocal chords weren't used to the abuse. He looked at Jak.
"No she isn't!" he hissed, tears welling, "If she was family, then why doesn't she think so?! Why aren't we with everyone else?!" He snapped his head around to Rhiannon, skin flaps waving with the motion.
"Why did you come here?! Come to dump us off on top of another mountain?!" then he finally noticed the man standing next to him and froze. He was... terrifying. He was HUGE! He looked back and forth between him and Jak. His brother had mentioned the man before, but now face to face with him, Amhalghaidh was suddenly terrified. He hadn't been face to face with anyone except Jak since...

Seth could feel the rolling waves of nausea and unease that he felt every time the now-Avington Jak made complete eye contact returning every time he glanced at the boy's sibling. Jellyfish... it was a sickly appropriate way to describe the boy's almost crippling mutation. He covered his mouth with a hand, trying to hide his expression. This... really wasn't his business, was it? " I brought her,[/b]" the big man said, red eyes flicking down to the angry fluff of a cat. But that was the only thing he could answer to. His gaze shifted to his daughter in horror as the pair of children continued to speak. Some very small part of him understood, in that moment, why it was she had abandoned her children. But what was she going to do now? She couldn't very well continue to live her normal life now that she had the knowledge that the children she thought dead were alive and doing as well as two "orphans" could do in the armpit of the Capital. Eyes wide with terror, Rhiannon stared from one son to the other. How had Seth found them? How had he... how had he known? She felt her head drop slightly, the fur along her back standing rigid as she looked from Jak to Amhal. " Family..[/b]" she repeated, her voice wavering from the strain of saying even that one little word. She wasn't sure what worried her more - Amhal's burning fury, or Jak's.... whatever it was that Jak was. She couldn't put a word to it, was almost afraid to do so. " W-we... Oh, fuck, w-we...[/b]" she hunched over abruptly and vomited, her stomach rather violently expelling its contents. The emotional strain was too much for her body to bear and it had to act out in some way. The pale man manifested in a second, appearing in the place between his hunched-over summoner and her children, hatred burning in his vividly orange eyes as he stared at the abominations. He'd hoped that she never had to see them again, had hoped beyond anything that the mountain had been the death of them. He bared his teeth at Amhal, who was the one who had really caused such pain for his summoner. That one had always been the worst. That one who was supposed to bring her such joy, being Rhiannon's little kitten... " Get away from her![/i]" the scythe screamed as he crouched beside the woman, laying a protective hand on her flank as she shuddered. His expression was completely feral, almost daring the pair to go against his command. Seth stared, left without words by the drama unfolding in front of him. He took a subconscious step back.

All of the screaming was starting to get to Jak. His feline ears flattened against his head in concern as a touch of fear snaked its way through his thoughts while looking at his brother. Amhal was crying. That... that wasn't allowed! At all! Ever! Nobody was allowed to make his brother cry. But the people who were doing it was family, even if they weren't actually doing anything. Just standing there. Why was his brother so upset? They were back, weren't they? And then the tears changed to fear and something else, and he bristled a little, walking towards his brother for another rub and a quick half-groom that was meant to be comforting.
Then suddenly there was a human man standing in front of his mother, who'd thrown up, and his grandfather wasn't doing anything besides standing there, and everything was making his brother so upset that he couldn't stand it. Something snapped and his eyes went wide, the left one involuntarily twitching a little bit as he stared at the man.
"Oooooohkay now." He stood up straighter, the bipedal Avington body slowly melting like his eyes had done when he'd lit the candle and the green fur being replaced with smooth human skin. Reddish Joker's eyes stared back at Pale from a teenage version of himself, slowly adopting the same crouching position next to his brother that the human had towards Rhi. He bared his teeth in a feral grin.
Not cool. Nooooot cool. These people were making his brother cry and cringe and do all sorts of horrible things. He made a biting gesture in the air and waited.

This was sick and wrong. Rhiannon raised her head slowly in time to see the Avington-version of her son shift and melt in a horribly disturbing way, turning into her Apocalypse. It was like staring at a mirror that went through time, reflecting things in the past, especially as he slipped into the same stance as the weapon. She wanted to leap between them, but she could no more push her weapon to the ground than she could her child, no matter how much it sickened her to look at the boy.
Pale let out a sound that didn't seem quite right coming from a human, a snarl of rage and hatred. He'd been able to see them through Rhiannon's eyes as they grew, and even when she tried to accept them he'd told her how wrong it was. How wrong they were. They were supposed to be hers, supposed to be perfect... He'd told her how right it would be to discard them as soon as Xiven had given birth, and they had. So why were the terrors standing in front of them as they were, alive and in one piece, continuing to defile two royal Heart families?
He hated the teens that stood before him. If he'd had hands when Rhiannon and Lior decided to abandon them, he would have offered to throttle their little necks himself so that there wasn't any chance of them returning.
And now, he was willing to do the same. Muscles bunched as he prepared to lunge, his fingers and teeth itching to feel skin beneath them. He had no trouble tearing the life out of someone who looked like he did.
Seth stepped between them then, shifting in a fluid motion into his much bulkier biped form, clapping his wings open abruptly to make him appear even larger. His red eyes smoldered as he looked from human to... younger version of human. His lip curled, showing off his pointed teeth. The children would know all too well that an angry bat was something to watch out for. "That's enough,[/b]" he barked, tone short and commanding. "Jak, relax. Rhiannon, call off your man-whore. Everyone shut up and take a goddamned breath. We're family.[/b]" The word had seemed to have a good effect on Jak before, so he hoped it'd help hearing it now.
Apocalypse sneered at the big man, but shrunk back to press close against Rhiannon, the look on his face clearly stating that he wouldn't let anyone get anywhere near her. She pressed against him, finding his touch reassuring.

Hadrian was quickly becoming panicked at the words and the tone of said words. He wanted to comfort his sister. Children? Thought they had died? So... Rhi had other children that she'd tried to abandon? That didn't sound like his sister.... not at all. What the hell was going on. Risking a severe ass-kicking, he went forward to comfort her, then stopped. Rhiannon's weapon manifested. He... hated that man.
Amhalghaidh let out a startled yowl as the new man suddenly appeared. He looked back and forth between Jak and the new man. that... WHAT THE HELL?! Even he knew that wasn't right. He only stared at the man with his mouth open. He barely felt Jak trying to comfort him. He just wanted everyone to leave. He just wanted it to be him and Jak again. This was all so overwhelming...
The the big man got bigger and scarier. Amhalghaidh cowered against Jak, purring to comfort himself and peeking out from behind his new form at all the strange new people.
