Oh, lookit that! Grampa was stepping in to make things better. Jak's toothy, menacing grin turned into a much more genuinely happy human expression, albeit with lots of pointy Pale teeth. He absently pet at Amhal's soft, grimy kitty-fur and delicate skin flaps, trying to calm him down. "What a gooooood Grampa," he breathed, and then got to his feet in a slow gesture. He wasn't scared of the man at all, especially not after hearing that one... important... word.
On unsteady legs, he walked forward until he was directly against the bat and wrapped bare human arms around his torso, squeezing. It had to have looked like the most bizarre thing in the world. "Thaaaank you, Grampa. Love you," he mumbled into the fur. He meant every word. Family. Finally. Somebody else understood! He couldn't have been happier. Maybe things would calm down now. That would be just swell.
Then Amhal could stop crying, and Mom could stop cringing, and maybe he'd get to see Kieran and Treasa again someday? He still had to go find Dell...

Seth's fur bristled all over when the creepy mini-Pale hugged his leg, but he forced it to smooth down once more. He didn't want to set the weird little creature off any more, but this... Everything was just getting out of control, and he needed to reign it in before something bad happened. He stared long and hard at Rhiannon, red eyes unreadable, and then turned his attention back to the teen.
"Love you too, Jak.[/b]" he said, struggling to keep the wariness out of his voice. Hesitantly, he even touched the human-shaped boy on the head, stroking the burnished-gold hair that he had "borrowed". If this was what it took to keep Jak from having an actual fight with the scythe, he'd do it.
For the woman, however, it was too much. Watching her father comfort her demented, terrifying son... "I... Jak, Amhal... Fuck.[/b]" Rather abruptly, she scrambled to her feet and ran, leaving Pale yelping in surprise and scrambling to keep up with her until she sent him back to the safe place inside of her mind. She couldn't deal with this. She couldn't deal with it now, couldn't deal with it then, would probably never be able to deal with it. The weapon's words were true, there was only one way to deal with it - and she'd never be strong enough to kill them herself. Dropping them on a deserted mountain had been the only option.
She didn't even notice Hadrian as she ran, tearing through the streets and just looking for someplace to hide herself away until she was sure that it would be safe to come back out.
Seth moved forward as if to try and stop her, but recoiled a second later, sadness crossing his face. He really couldn't fix it fully, could he? He knelt down then, getting closer to the level of the two teenaged boys, looking from one to the other and then focusing on Jak. In this form, he was easier to look at than his brother with that sickening exposed skin. He opened his mouth, closed it. What could he say to try and keep them from following her? Then he spoke. "She loves you, Jak, Amhalghaidh, I know she does.[/b]" he swallowed, feeling the lie in what he'd said. "I'm sorry. She'll come back when she's ready to forgive herself, but.. hey, I'll still come visit you, yeah? So you'll have some kind of family.[/b]"
He wanted to vomit, just like his daughter had done, but instead he smiled.

Hadrian was about to scramble out of way of when he caught a sight of the monstrosities. Her moving out of view gave him a clear view of the skin-flap one. Hadrian had to do a double-take. Why was their a mirror image of Pale cuddling up to his father? The big Pale ran away with Rhi... What in the hell is going on?!
Then his red eyes went wide. He'd been spotted. The Feline was staring at him. Amhalghiadh shook his head at Seth wanting to visit again. No... this other person knows where they live now, they had to move... now.... Amhalghidh gave a hiss and arched his back at the Canine that was a very long way away.
Then he just stared at Seth. "No..." he shook his head in disbelief. His entire body began to shake. He was just so overwhelmed, "I don't believe you..." he bit his bottom lip, trying not to cry. He knew Jak would do... things in an attempt to cheer him up. That was the last thing he needed right now.

Jak's delight knew no bounds when Seth acknowledged and even in a small way returned his affection, grin settled firmly on his creepy human face. Only the bat's jerk forward following Pale's yelp and his mom's departure dislodged him from the man's side and he stumbled, arms sticking out to the sides in an effort to keep himself steady. Such odd things, human limbs! He didn't wear them all too often.
Confused, he stared after Rhiannon and then tilted his head up to look at Seth, thoroughly alarmed at the sadness he saw there. Red eyes were huge and suddenly a little panicked until the man moved closer to them, focusing on him. The words and the smile were like balm on his worried mind and he matched the expression, relaxing a little and nodding. He completely missed Hadrian's existence, too busy focusing on the people directly in front of him. His mouth opened to speak when his brother got there first and he looked down in confusion.
...that wasn't a happy face on his brother. Not at all. He wasn't crying, but biting at his lip like that... not good. Not happy. "He's our Grampa, Awleee," the odd human soothed, going down on one knee to fling an arm around his brother's neck. Carefully, of course. The feline would be used to Jak touching him in so many different forms. "He's family. He wouldn't lie to us. He's nice. And hey, he already visited once, riiiiight?" He pointed at the bat, as if his presence there was proof of his trustworthiness.

The situation seemed... utterly hopeless, in a way. Seth drooped noticably between Jak's unyeilding affection and his brother's seeming hatred of anything that wasn't the strange creature that had attached itself to him. Rhiannon was gone again, and he suspected that she would never again dare to set foot in this part of the Bazaar, simply out of fear that she would stumble upon her own children again. The thought was almost enough to set his teeth on-edge, but he was distracted by the feline's sudden hissing. He turned in the direction the boy was looking and blinked, looking alarmed by the sight of his son, but he said nothing.
What could he say? Having one person there seemed to be almost too much for the Highland boy to take, and Seth really didn't want to stress him out any further. This whole... process... was going to take time and a fair amount of care not to freak out either child. Or anyone else, really.
He knew he had to try and keep the pair a secret from the rest of his family, and he swallowed hard as he looked back down at the mini-Pale.
"Right,[/b]" he answered, voice sounding oddly thin to his own ears. What was he saying? Why was he saying it, why was he giving so much care to these freaks? Yes, they were family. That had never mattered to him before, why should he care now? "But it's okay if you don't wanna trust me yet. I'll just have to keep coming by to show you, huh? But I'll leave for now if that's what you need.[/b]" he stood slowly, then looked back at Hadrian. He really wanted to go.
"I'll be back soon, I promise.[/b]"
((almost ready to call this one finished?))
