As a Villa himself, Raina had wondered how the bird would react to the news that the new Queen didn't only take after her Yarrow side and indulged in musical pasttimes. Though she couldn't exactly say that she had the most musical experience, Raina would even say that Donnie had been an incredible player. Perhaps this fact was something that could be advantageous to the wolverine's general public approval.
Granted, she was sure that wasn't something that the powerful Queen was entirely concerned with. All the same, it gave her something to work with when people wanted to know about the woman... It did make for an interesting story, if nothing else.
"Yes, that's right," she answered with a small nod. "With an amazing harp the likes of which I'd never seen before. It had a Spade carved into it." The girl hesitated a moment, inclining her head to the side and looking at the cardinal with a curious glimmer in her eyes. "What about you, Colin? Are you musically inclined?" She was genuinely interested in that topic. She herself was as musical as a brick, though she loved to listen to those who had an ability with it. If the bird could do anything, really, she would be impressed... and it would be yet another positive note towards the man's overall score.
However, he still didn't sound entirely convinced as to the justice of the new Queen, no matter how much the young Eagle approved of her and her actions. "I'm glad you understand," she replied a little softly. The subject of music seemed a much safer one, for the time being at least.

Colin was the type of Villa who not only enjoyed music in all its forms, but appreciated just about any other art as well. Though music would always be the highest of all art forms, the one that made his heart soar every time he went to a concert. And the sounds you could get from a harp--so light and melodic, like bubbles or butterflies--were entrancing.
Though he had certainly been paying attention to everything Raina said, on the subject of music he hung on every word, eyes wide and captivated. "Ooh, it sounds lovely," Colin breathed, a rather dreamy expression crossing his face for a moment...before she asked him a question, and he brightened, always glad to speak of his talents in this area.
"I play the piano," he said, unable to help the slight puffing of the feathers on his chest. "I get asked to play concerts every few weeks at the local performance hall. Sometimes they're my own compositions, though it's rare that I have time to write music these days." He was obviously proud of his achievements and skill, though there was something in him that longed for approval from Raina...as if a good word from her was a landmark in the road to becoming a truely successful musician.
Colin nodded at her, not sure what else to say on the subject...not wanting to make Raina sad or think he doubted her, but also not being able to lie to her and tell her he could fully endorse what Donalda had done without knowing both sides of the story.

Raina sensed that she'd made a good decision with this topic, and she smiled happily to herself. Her companion seemed more at ease as well.
"It was," she admitted with a small nod. "And the sounds it produced were... I could never do them justice with words. I'm sure you know what I mean." the girl gave Colin her most stunning smile, then laughed demurely. She was dimly aware that it was getting later, but she wasn't quite done with this conversation. She was genuinely enjoying Colin's company.
The piano... The girl breathed an awed sigh, expression going almost dreamy for a moment. If she'd had to pick, she loved to listen to a well played piano most of all. Such a beautiful, soulful instrument. "I... I simply adore the piano. You'll have to tell me when next you will play, I would be honored... no, delighted to attend." she looked at him across the table, those brilliant eyes of hers catching his own, delighted and hopeful all at once. "And.. wow... your own music? I never dreamed I'd meet a composer."
She'd make every effort to attend his show, as long as it was somewhere she could easily reach. With parents like hers, that meant she'd probably make it wherever it was held, which seemed to her to be a very good thing.
Raina could justify it to herself, too. If she heard the bird play with her own ears, it would give her something to tell Her Majesty Donalda about should she secure a position for herself and the bird come up in conversation.

Colin nodded knowingly, though the smile made his heart beat faster. And that little laugh...he couldn't help grinning widely in response. "I find above all things, language falls most short when describing music," he remarked quietly, almost reverently.
Raina's reaction to the tally of his talents, and her subsequent admission that she loved the piano, were enough to make Colin nearly melt. He simply beamed with pride and happiness too great to be expressed. He'd never gotten such a high compliment...and it was for him, not his sister or his mother or any other family members, it was HIS playing she wanted to hear! And she would.
"And it would be an honor to have you there," he said, placing a wing over his feathered chest, feeling like he could fairly burst with excitement at the very thought. Not to mention how delighted the concert hall would be to have such a high-ranking guest. "I play at the Spring Morning Concert Hall, up on Laurel Ridge in the Villa. It's a lovely place. My next invitation is actually...a week from tomorrow." He looked at her, hope surging in his breast...could she make it? He couldn't even describe the elation he'd feel. And since he could pick half his lineup for the day...
"Well, like I said, I haven't had a chance to write much music lately," he said, flushing slightly beneath his feathers at the compliment. "But I know the perfect little piece of mine to play at the upcoming concert..." His eyes got a bit distant as notes and melodies and piano keys flitted through his mind.

As the man spoke, Raina rummaged through her belongings, finally finding a pencil and a pad of paper. Quickly, she scribbled down the information, nodding as she did and then setting it down after glancing over the information once more. After all, it simply wouldn't do to miss the show due to a simple mis-spelling! She beamed at the cardinal.
"I'm looking forward to it," she replied, folding her hands in front of her once more. She wanted to hear the bird play, but even more than that she was looking forward to hearing what he had written. That would be the most interesting thing to her... And would probably be the most interesting to Donnie, should Raina pass on the news one day. "And really, even if you're not active with writing right now, the fact that you have the ability is impressive enough."
She was aware of the fact that Liadan was leaning heavily against her leg, and when she glanced down at the Bandersnatch she sighed at her owner. Raina frowned ever so slightly, then stood slowly. She rummaged in her pocket to procure money for their food - enough to cover both meals, of course, and set it on the table.
"Oh, dear... It seems I've lost track of time, and I must be getting on my way now." she said, a sad note creeping into her voice as she looked at the cardinal. She'd found that he'd been quite enjoyable company, and so she leaned in and kissed his cheek, smiling all the while. "Thank you for the lovely afternoon. I've really enjoyed speaking with you, and I can't wait to see you play next weekend."

Colin felt his heart fairly sing as he watched the girl get out a piece of paper and write down the details of his concert. It was almost unreal, to think that such a wonderful, high-ranking young lady would want to hear him, would come all the way out to the Villa to see him!...though really, the Villa was a lovely place, and everyone should visit it at least once. Well, except Lowlanders. He rather shuddered at the thought of any of them staining the cliffs of his home...though none of that right on his mind right then. He was too busy feeling like he was having a wonderful dream, and he never wanted to wake up.
He bowed deeply to Raina, too touched by her praise of him to do much else. "Well, you can decide how impressive it is when you hear it," he laughed slightly, trying to hide how flustered all the flattery was making him. He blinked as she paid for the meal, nodding to her graciously in thanks.
But then...Colin felt his heart sink at the words. Looking up, though, he could tell it was getting late...and he reluctantly thought of how his family would be expecting him for dinner. "Indeed, I must be off also," he sighed, a note of even greater sadness in his voice. He blinked, startled, as she kissed him...blushing hard enough that he worried she would see it through the light purple of his feathers.
"Th-thank YOU, M'Lady Raina," he stuttered, standing up and bowing deeply again. "The pleasure was all mine, and I do hope you will enjoy the trip out...I promise you will hear the loveliest songs in my repertoire." It was only the thought of seeing her smiling face and sparkling eyes in the audience next weekend that made parting ways bearable. Amazing that he could be so entranced in just one afternoon...
