Seki was equally oblivious to the label his father had stamped on he and Rocky. The taur was very nice, yes, but Seki hadn't known him nearly long enough to label him as anything more than a friend.
Rocky's acceptance to take him into the city brought a cheerful smile to his face...before he looked down and remembered he still had a massive plate of food and no bander to eat what he couldn't bare to stomach.
Rocky's switch of attention, however, instantly perked the doe's attention. How could it not, of course, when it was focused on her research? She leaned forward a little, forgetting about her food for a moment. "Ask away, Rocky. I've got nothing against discussing genetics, nothing at all." They were her life, her passion... Coming in at a very close second to the family she had never expected to have, silly how that works. One spends all day researching genetics and never expects to pass them on...
Well, some had been in the name of curiosity and science but even that had ultimately become more.

"So. There are particular traits that have the likely hood of being passed on. Are you able to figure out the likely hood of how... for example my extra limbs... would pass on to the next generation?" The raccoon was curious to know if he ever had any more children (accidental or not) if they would all end up having an extra set of limbs.
"Also. Is it possible to isolate an element, like a feather, and duplicate that genetic code to create more feathers?" Of course all of his examples would have something to do with flight. How couldn't they? It was the one passion in Rocky's life that he could never get away from. He may have been easily distracted but he always came back to it.
His dinner was being ignored for conversation. Science was one of the few things that kept the raccoon skinny and able to fly.

Ophelia leaned forward, food forgotten and fingers steepled in thought. Determining the likelihood of his genetic mutation being passed on was possible, but not off the top of her head. She'd have to do a bit of study. Or breed him a few times. The latter seemed like it'd be a hit harder than the prior, so she opted not to mention that for the time being.
"It would take a bit of experimentation, but yes. I could most definitely figure that out." The doe broke into a wide grin, tapping her fingers together lightly. "As for replicating the gene to produce a single feather? Yes, I'm sure that could be done. While it's not the same as producing an actual wing -- that's a definite gene entirely -- it would be the difference between feathered wings and leathery ones."
The doe nodded thoughtfully, eyeing her companion briefly before smiling widely. "I would always be interested in seeing the exact results to these speculations, however, so if you'd like to experiment than I'd be game."
Seki remained quiet through all this speculation, nibbling silently at his food. At very least it would give the very slow eater a chance to catch up and not look so utterly strange once everyone had finished eating.

Rocky could have squealed with delight. However he was a grown man and remembered that he was at a dinner table. If he had been in another setting he probably would have. He really was talking to the Ophelia!
"Well I've conducted an experiment that can sprout feathers from a person... however I can't exactly control the amount of feathers and if I would want them on a particular structure. They just sort of cluster where the injection point is. Plus the feathers normally are a random shade sometimes unrelated to fur color." He explained with a note of disappointment.
His ears perked at the comment of "seeing the exact results." Did that mean they would be in the same lab together? If Rocky had been a dog his tail would have given him away. However, he gave a wide grin. "I would love to see the exact results of these speculations!"
His food was completely forgotten. However Seki wasn't. He hadn't gotten a chance to ask earlier at least he thought... he couldn't quite remember. He turned to Seki, his grin still plastered on his face, "I didn't ask you before--but do you have a specialty?"

Ophelia was absolutely pleased with this entire conversation. Rocky had such an interesting line of research and she was more than pleased with the prospect of both assisting with his specialty and getting to play with her own.
"Well, to make fur tone with the wings, you would either need an avian of that region or...a personal genetic sample. It shouldn't be too hard to pull out their pigments and mix it with the genes for the feathers." She eyed his brilliant Morganberry wings for a moment and smiled. Did he want to readjust the hue of his feathers? Or was he just trying to make natural-looking artificial wings for anyone who could afford them?
"Do you have an eventual goal in mind, Rocky?"
When the attention was returned to him, however, Seki froze up. He was in the middle of some prolonged chewing on the bite he currently had in his mouth and was forced to swallow it down quickly to respond.
"Well... I don't know, not entirely. I'm good with mechanics, I used to help mum every so often with his experiments. I..." Wow it had been a long time since he'd done anything with his work. "I've played a bi with pyrotechnics, they're fascinating...but I don't think I'd ever advance into Fireworks." Because those were loud and drew a great deal more attention to him than the simple smoke bombs he played with.

"Fascinating," Rocky mused at what Ophelia had said. It meant they could possibly work together at the very least. Probably for a short while while he conducted some studies to come up with a formula. Oh that was a wonderful prospect.
"Oh well, I don't think everyone wants bright neon wings like mine. If I could produce something of the same color that didn't come from a dead person I think some of my clients would be grateful." He said with a note of cheer in his voice.
The raccoon's ears twitched at Seki's comments. Dabbling in all sorts of things? That made for interesting stories he was sure. "Being good at more things doesn't limit your options. I'm horrible with mechanics and I've never been one for explosions." He shrugged. "I did blow up part of my mother's lab once when I was younger but I don't think that counts."

Ophelia couldn't help but chuckle ever so slightly, nodding in agreement. No, not everyone would... Opehlia didn't mind them, but she'd never been a very orthodox person.
"True, very true... That will have to be amended."
As his attention shifted to Seki, Ophelia's did too. She was curious to see what the male could prompt from the usually shy and closed off boy.
Seki was blushing soft beneath his dark fur, almost uncertain as to how to continue. No one had really pushed much interest in his small interests in science. Talents were one thing, but he wasn't what you'd call a Scientist. "I'm not one for explosions either... Too loud. I like smoke bombs." He smiled briefly, but it quickly faded. He'd originally taken an interest in the science as a defense mechanism... If Rindal couldn't see him, he couldn't wallop him.
He giggled a little at the thought of Rocky blowing up his mom's lab. "Heh... Did you really?"

Rocky couldn't help but smile. Research with the Ophelia. His attention shifted when Seki giggled. Well... blowing up your mother's lab was funny wasn't it?
"Yes, yes I did. My mother works with chemicals and I decided when I was younger to mix two chemicals with pretty colors. This was obviously the worst possible idea. All I know is something that's neon green should not be mixed with something that's bright blue. It's also the reason why I decided to become more of an organic chemist. Working with living tissue and chemicals is much easier than working with just plain chemicals." He nodded. Rocky was hardly embarrassed by blowing up his mother's lab. He had made it out alive, that was good enough.
The raccoon perked a bit. His ears twitched. Seki really was the shy type, that's probably why he hadn't said all that much on the trip. Of course when Rocky was with someone he just continued to rant. He was the sociable sort. "But I suppose you did answer my question, eh?"

Seki couldn't keep the little grin off of his features.
No, he'd found that mixing chemicals simply because they were pretty simply didn't work. Not that his concoctions came in a great array of colors, but mixing them without caution could be quite painful. He rubbed his hands at the thought of his early mistakes.
"That does seem a little safer, organic tissue isn't as prone to explosion." He chuckled a little, nervous but growing a little bolder. Ophelia always inspired a little confidence in him. "I'm glad I've never blown up dad's lab..." The feline glanced over at Ophelia, smiling meekly. He knew how very protective over her lab his father could be.
Ophelia chuckled, smiling at the two. It was nice to see Seki socializing so nicely. He needed more friends... "Yes, I don't think I'd be too pleased to have my lab blown up... There's a lot of irreplaceable data in there." Ophelia took great pains to be sure nothing deteriorated before it's time...
"But ...yeah, sort of. I've done some small work with pyrotechnics, of the smoke bomb sort. No loud noises, really... but they make a lot of pretty smoke."
