Femi didn't notice Kazifel's disappearance at first, face buried against her daughter and unable to look up just then. She stroked Rose's soft, odd, good-smelling fur and continued to whimper, clawed fingers digging in at intervals but not hard enough to do more than press through the fur against the skin. "You're my baby, you're my baby, oh Rose, what happened to my babies..."
The noise next to her, claws ticking on the hard floors as her husband shifted, and she looked up with pink eyes that were now as watery as her daughters. They widened when she saw him holding a box and flicked down to the floor where only a tiny, messy bit of blood remained. Then her head snapped back up.
"W-what are you doing. Kazifel? What... are you doing?" She held Rose closer, tucking the girl's head against her chest so that she could continue to cry, and stared at him helplessly.

Rosemary didn't notice anything. She heard her mother's desperate words but couldn't process them. Her voice seemed hollow, everything seemed painfully unreal. This couldn't be happening.
But it was. And it was painful. When her mother had paused to look over at her father. She could already feel the blood caking in her fur, it was a disgusting feeling, but nothing beat the feeling she had when she saw her father and heard his words. Her mother's motions were gratefully accepted as she buried her face in the fur once again.
"I'm going to bury him. Now. Right now." Kazifel said quietly as he rose. Something had broke yet again, in the man, and he had shut off a particular part of him. He was set on the task of burying his son's head, and no one was going to stop him. It had to happen now. He left the house as fast as he possibly could, and headed towards the back to grab a shovel.
In this moment, Rosemary truly wished at this moment she could hug her mother, and try to make this all go away. But of course, she couldn't. "Mom... I'm so sorry." She whimpered.

Femi couldn't remember the last time that her roving daughter had accepted her touch this openly, beyond the hugs and touches that she peppered on everyone in her family regardless of age or gender. She ran her fingers through the oddly yellowed fur, mind unable to catch up with or hold on to everything that had just happened over the past few minutes. Hours. Days. Everything in her head felt fuzzy and disconnected, like she was swimming through mud.
"O-okay," she whispered in a shaky breath, a few moments after he had already left the room, arms clutching at Rose tighter. She wasn't the type to offer very good support to anyone but Kazifel. She tried, oh yes, she did, but she just couldn't understand what made her children tick sometimes or how to act to make them better. It had been so much easier when they were little and Mommy could kiss their scrapes away with a hug and something to eat. Most of them had... matured past the point of needing her, all except for Alphonse. And now he was gone.
Her mind fuzzed out for a moment and she just stared straight ahead of her, not hearing or seeing anything for a few minutes until she came back to herself with a start and looked around as though lost. Where was her Kazifel? And what was really going on? What had... happened tonight? She knew, but it was hard to focus on. "Mommy loves you, sweetheart," she murmured, resuming her petting.

It could have been the wrong thing to do. It could have been a horrible thing to do. It didn't matter. He did it. And he didn't come to himself until the job was done. He was standing over the sealed hole the shovel in his hands.
He could feel his stomach falling. The emptiness. Sickness. This was real. All of it. Choking back the tears he returned to his wife and child.
--
Rosemary didn't feel right. It didn't seem right at all. Nothing seemed real. Her mother was acting different. Not right. Nothing made any sense. The loss and the overwhelming pain built up as she looked through at her mother through blurry eyes. She heard the click of the door as her father returned.
She could smell the dirt. She could still smell the blood that was caked to her fur along with it. It didn't seem real. It couldn't be real....
Her father walked past them. She could hear everything as she sobbed into her mother's fur. His footsteps receded, she heard something metal fall, and then he came back.
Wordlessly Kazifel wrapped his arms around his wife and daughter. It was all her could do.
