The world was a wide and scary place. She couldn't remember that it was the sound of heavy footsteps that sent the kitten scurrying away from the safety of her mother, rounded ears plastered back against her skull in sheer terror. She ran blindly, unsure of where she was going, only knowing that she needed to run as fast as she possibly could. Every time she felt her heart beat slowing down to a normal level, she would catch the glimpse of some shadow close behind, something following her, long talons extending from the corners of her mind to snatch her up. So she ran faster, summoning all of her strength to move through the halls, claws scrabbling for purchase on the smooth floors until she found herself crashing, nose first, into the gardens. But still, there would be no rest. Not yet. She could hear laughter when the breeze flowed through the bushes, and yelped when she moved through the rose gardens, shying away from thorns that to her golden eyes appeared to be claws reaching out to grab her. Her poor heart was thudding lowly in her chest, and she was struggling to breath - it was the air, she knew it, traces of it worked their way in around her mask, like a poison she couldn't avoid -- It rose before her, a massive painting sprawled across the wall of the court, framed by twining rosevines. For the moment, the girl's panic was forgotten, replaced by awe. She stepped towards the art - it looked like a painting of her grandpa and another man, a Highlander... Bernard? Reaching to each other... Neither was wearing clothes which was embarassing, but it was a beautiful painting, and she blinked openly at it.

There would in fact be a creature in the darkness... a creature with long, frightening fingers tipped with sharp talons. Of course, he was no shadow. The albino stood out quite obnoxiously against the reds and greens of the rose garden. Given the awesomeness of his own abilities though, it was understandable that the painting was considered a far greater distraction. Mikael was nearly beside himself that standing before him was another bog dweller was before him.. or at least she looked part bog. Sometimes it was hard to tell with some of them. Her dark mane and tinting of color to her tail were not typical of bog coloration. Stepping forward, he was grinning behind his mask though it couldn't be seen. That was one thing he hated about his mask; nobody could tell how he felt by his expression. splatters of paint laced his mask and chest.. and his normally blue tinted fingers were a Picasso work in themselves. Now, to speak... "Do you like it?" He questioned anxiously, tail wagging anxiously behind him.

The tiny kitten was completely lost in the swirls of color, moving close to investigate each line before pulling back to see the mural in its completeness. She could almost swear that the lines appeared to be made not by brush strokes but rather by the delicate pads of someone's fingers, but that couldn't be possible - the lines were far too long for that, each long stroke travelling for feet! She reared up on her hind legs, placing tiny paws carefully against the wall and rearing onto her hind legs to get a better look.
She was standing like this when Mikael stumbled apon her and she let out a terrified mewl, jumping back a step before her clumsy limbs lost their balance, sending her toppling over, legs windmilling hilariously. What on earth was wrong with the boy?! He was all covered in colors!
Slowly, the gears in her mind clicked into place and she stopped her panicked wriggling, pulling herself up with wide eyes. He looked like he had Bog colors... Her tail stood rigid behind her, completely puffed up with her residual fear. "Did you paint it?" she asked in reply, completely disregarding his question. "Why is grampa not wearing clothes?"

Even Mikael gave a little jump at the creature's fear, bouncing back a good step or two. Hackles raised defensively, his batty ears swiveled uncertainly back in the direction of the girl. She was young.. a few years younger than himself. When she sat up, his fur smoothed, taking a few steps closer as he regarded the girl warily.
Then she asked a question certainly worthy of an answer. "Why, because the human form is beautiful without clothing. It is the natural state of things, I think. Only when we shed our scales, feather and fur do we feel a weakness in shame, and loss for our pelts that we must swath ourselves in garments. You see-... Wait, what? Grandpa? Which one is your grandpa?"
She was related to one of these men? Related to... Seth? "What.. you mean the hairy one.. right there? He's your grandpa?" He narrowed his eyes as if not quite believing her.

Orange eyes widened silently as the strange hybrid began to speak. She found herself less interested in what he was saying than in the way that he looked - something about it was familiar, striking her as something important, something she should recognize... He had a funny wiggly little nose sticking out of his mask and gigantic ears... but a body shape like a dog of some kind. If not for his colors, she'd almost say he looked a lot like her momma did... But then she could be mistaken, she didn't get to spend a lot of time with momma after all, so it would be hard to make any kind of comparison.
That was funny! The girl giggled despite herself, a tiny smile curling across her lips. He lost track of what he was saying quickly, didn't he? For a moment she didn't even notice that he'd asked her a question, she was far too caught up in being entertained by his change in pace. What had thrown him off so bady without scaring him?
"Yeah, that's my grampa, all fuzzy even tho' he's a human-shaper. Sometimes when I sit in his lap I can see the furs sticking out of his shirt." she replied, nodding eagerly, then glanced back at the painting. "I don't get why he's got an elephant in his lap, though... Is that just the artistry-touch?" her smooth brow furrowed slightly as she looked back at him.

"That's not an- ... never mind." He smartly shut his mouth. While his mother never really emphasized such thing as 'ladylike behavior' he'd learned early that other females in the court were sometimes... delicate things, and some male matters were better kept to themselves if the women didn't already know of it. He'd learned that after explaining in detail why females had to squat and why boys could hike their legs to another young child in the court....
Now though, he couldn't stop looking at the girl.. more than a little flabbergasted. His dad, a grandfather? That had to mean that one of his older children had to have had kids themselves. Crazy stuff! "Seth is my daddy!" He finally blurted out, looking at the girl as if she had grown a second head. "I think that means we're related..."

Virtute stared at the boy for a long moment, suspicion showing on her face. What, exactly, was he trying to keep from her? She didn't like secrets, secrets were designed to keep her from knowing things that could potentially be vital to her very survival! The corners of her mouth turned in a decidedly displeased frown but she didn't say anything. If she pressed matters he'd know that she was on to him and then she'd never find out whatever it was that he was keeping from her.
The kitten logged it away in her mind as something to ask her mother about as soon as she had the chance. Xiven knew everything, after all, and would never keep secrets from her daughter.
"Daddy?" she said a little blankly, staring at him. She'd heard the term before, but she didn't have one... Was she missing anything important? "I don't have a daddy.. I have a mama and a mommy, and two grampas and grammas... And a whatever you are! 'Cause... we are related, then." she grinned. "My name's Virtute."

"A momma and a mommy? You mean they.. they.. they made babies? Wow.." His gaze looked curiously up at his own artwork, ears perked forward thoughtfully. He wondered if two daddies could make a baby too....
"Yah, I suppose it does. I don't think we're cousins.. We'll have to ask my daddy later I guess.." He grinned and wagged his tail. "I'm Mikael."
Again, he glanced toward his work of art. He couldn't get past the fact that he was probably going to be in a lot of trouble for what he'd done.. but again he really couldn't regret it. Even a good 'ass whoppin' would be worth what he'd create it, even if his only admirer was a young girl who'd never seen penis before. She probably didn't even know that girl parts and boy parts were different!
Then, the young lad put two and two together. "Hey, your mom... or one of your mom's.. is Rhi isn't it? She's my sister!"

His question was a silly one, wasn't it? She'd said they were both female and she was certainly alive. She felt a momentary brush of panic pass through her and her fur stood on end. The chill that went up her spine was too real for her not to be alive, and it helped soothe her. She wasn't some kind of freaky-ass nymph-child from another planet, no. She just had two mothers. That wasn't all that strange. "I think that it's okay for two mommies to have babies if they want." she replied somewhat obstinantly. If they wanted to have babies, nothing should stop them from doing so.
"No, not cousins." she agreed with a small nod of her head. "An' not half-siblings, neither. I have some of those. I haven't gotten to meet them yet, though." her face fell slightly at that. She had been told about them, but... She still had no idea when they'd be arriving at the palace to play with her. She hoped they were nice like Xander, and not at all grumpy like Mercutio when he'd been woken up.
Virtute's expression was one of surprised delight when the boy mentioned her mother's name. "REALLY?! She's your sister?!" a small giggle left her, and she looked slyly up at the boy. "She is my mama. I guess you could say she's my daddy, but I'm not really sure about that." her expression was somewhat confused at the thought. Daddies had to be boys, after all, and her mama certainly didn't have a scary elephant like her grandpa apparently did.

His head turned to the side and a most curious expression went through his red albino eyes at that comment. Rhi, a daddy? Something just seemed quite messed up by that thought. He'd never really thought of his sister as the 'daddy' type. If he'd been told in the past that this had been the case (and if he'd been told Rhiannon had conceived children at all), he would have certainly forgotten that small
Now, he'd heard something about two mommies having babies, now that he thought about it. From what he understood, that's all the Yarrows ever did. Of course, he didn't particularly understand the mechanics behind all that. Perhaps the delivery stork brought them one?
And.. half siblings? Just how prolific had his sister become? Another question was who was the other mommy? "Is Rhi here now?" His tail gave a bit of a wag. "And who is your other mommy?"
