Se slunk into the Courtyard, pupilless eyes shifting in an erratic manner as the strange new focal point slipped one way then the next. He shifted from animal to human smoothly, catching his father’s start of surprise. The Yarrow mix curled a lip in response, obviously mocking the other Queen’s lack of knowledge about his youngest son. His wings unfurled with an audible crack, and canine hybrid gave an audible growl as he faced his father full on for the first time in years. There was a soft cry from the audience, but he didn’t hear it. He stared hard at the man who had spawned him and felt his stomach churn with rage and anger. His vilest of enemies. The one who had killed their family, killed his loved ones for so very, very long. He was going to destroy him. ”You’re going to pay, old man,” the mutated human snarled darkly. ”I’m going to make you feel ten times the pain you did to every person you killed, starting with Helena.” He began to circle his father.

Shinrai felt his heart lurch at the look of utter hatred the hybrid sent him. He was shocked, actually, to see Se’s switch to human; he’d never seen the man out of animal form. Despite the fact that his son was, for lack of a better term, a monstrosity in human—those wings!—Rai couldn’t help the slightest flutter of satisfaction that his son had attained the form. His pride was withered, however, by the snarl his son immediately thrown his way. ”We don’t have to do this, Se,” the stallion replied quietly, instinctively moving when his son did. The winged man’s words, however, threw him off and his stride hesitated for a moment and he sent a confused look towards the younger Card. ”Helena’s not dead,” he protested immediately. He wasn’t trying to confuse his son, but, as far as he was aware, Helena was in Torquehelm trying to overcome some personal issues. Maybe his family really was cursed. ”If something happened to her, it wasn’t by my hand, but her revenge will be.” These words showed the first spark of spirit since he’d received the challenge for Queenhood from his son.

Elias stood grimly in the corner in the new form he'd found he could take just this morning. He hadn't been pleased with this prospect when the idea was first presented to him, and seeing the horror that Se had become, he was much less enthused. Understanding dawned on Elias when Se began speaking of his "dead" siblings, though it was less he knew what happened and more that he just realized how crazy Se really was. So what Rai suddenly had on his hands was a crazy Card (crazy PIERCED card, El noted somewhere in his mind and snorted disapprovingly) who was lent strength not just by his madness but out of a sort of righteous indignation. Crazy idealists were the worst. He cursed a little under his breath. Rai was good, but he was soft on his kids, and El didn't think ole Whip would be any different now. He said a little prayer for his friend to whatever might listen to him and help.

Dre and Drostan were standing along the edge of the courtyard in concern and unease. Now that it was actually happening, Dre wasn’t in the least bit certain of all that had been planned. Drostan was fairly plastered to her leg, especially when Se stalked into view. The man looked— amazingly— even more deranged than the last time she’d seen him. When the hybrid Queen shifted from animal to human, Dre tried to cover her gasp of shock and horror. He was. . . a monster. She turned to her husband in an unspoken plea for comfort. She didn’t realize it at first, especially since the softly spoken words were muttered from about the general locale of her knee, but Drostan had bolted, succumbing to the outright terror that overwhelmed at the sight of the hideous thing that Rai’s son had become. Only his desperate desire for Dre’s protection kept him from going too far, but the Tulgey Ace hid in the hallway, out of sight, breath coming in short, terrified gasps.

Each word struck the Yarrows mix like a blow and he flinched away, teeth bared further for inspection. ”SHUT UP!” he hurled the retort back with all of the force he could muster. ”I saw you kill her over and over again! YOU KILLED THEM ALL.” His hands curved, curling his claws and a shudder of rage shook his whole body.
It took him a moment to regain some semblance of control over himself, but even when his body was motionless his wings were still shaking with the strength of his anger. It was a disturbing sight: the mutation to human form moving as though they were out of his control.
His head jerked toward the King who would be counting them down, eyes opened wide and steady for now. He was going to kill the freaking pispard. And he was going to make it hurt, just like the Queen had hurt all of the people he’d killed.

Rai’s face went cold, but he couldn’t control the sadness in his eyes. He needed to find a way to not only end this quickly, but to make sure that his son survived it. Light willing, he’d survive too. He couldn’t give his Court over to Se; he was well aware that the other Queen wasn’t fit for the duties of the Court. It wouldn’t be fair to the Hearts as a whole and certainly not to Xiven. No, he had to stop Se, but he knew very well that he wouldn’t be able to kill his son. The very idea twisted his gut into tight knots of fear and despair.
Se didn’t just hate him, Se abhorred his existence and very being. From the Yarrow mix’s words, Rai could only assume that it was for things he hadn’t actually done. Maybe if he had stepped in earlier, things wouldn’t have come to this point. And yet, through all of the years, it seemed better to just stay away from Se; his presence had seemed to actually pain the younger man.
Focus, Rai. It was time. He turned to give Bernard a brief nod of his head; he was ready. He hoped.

Bernard had been trucked out to the yard by Heilyn with only some brief protests and a quick snap at Sascha that he was not to follow. He hated to see his son recoil...he never yelled but, the thought of Se, whom he hadn't seen in so long and he remembered being off kilter, fighting his Queen. His son would not be anywhere near this courtyard if he could help it. He threw Heilyn a glance as he tapped his cane on the ground with nerves. "Wish me luck, Heilyn... I can't even begin to imagine. Make sure Seth keeps those kids bottled up, knowing Sascha and that Andrei. Thank the hills for Nikolai and their sister...otherwise they would have found a way to be eaten long before now..." He knew they were worried, Hills! The whole palace was on edge, how could they not be? Hearts Queens fighting, father and son? He shook his head and moved out onto the brace, the white marble looking almost dull and grey in the half light, and gazed at the two contenders. "The Hills is that?!" He hissed to himself, unable to stop the quick flash of revulsion that crossed his face as he finally spotted Se. It had been awhile. The boy had gotten his Human form...and he was a monster. Large wings curling awkwardly out of the thin shoulder blades and hunching over his head made him look alien, awkward and ignoble. What had happened to the boy? Or was this simply his madness manifesting itself. A bit more cautiously, he edged forward and stood near Rai. "My Queen..." He murmured, with a respectful bow of his head. "please be careful, I know fighting family is no fun. Keep your face away from the west wall, when the sun sets over there, it'll be directly in your eyes." He couldn't think of much else to say. He watched the pure hatred writhing over Se's face and felt a pang in his gut. His brother had looked at him like that, he wanted more than anything to find a way to call it off. Rai had already had a rough enough life. He didn't need to deal with this. The challenge had been called though, he couldn't just throw the freakish child in the basement with Pravus, he had to be dealt with as was his right as a Hearts Queen. Moving to the back of the field he held up his left hand. "The battle for the Queenship of the Court of Hearts will begin when I drop my hand. There is to be no outside involvement and the opponents may not flee the field until end has been called or death has occurred. Ready, my Queens?"He looked through Se and then gazed at Rai. "May the best man win."He dropped his hand and stared at the floor, feeling helpless and hopeless. He clenched his hands and prepared himself to watch the carnage. "Long live Queen Rai..."

Tegan was actually quite nervous. She'd seen her mother in her fits of paranoia, but that usually was accompanied with some form of anger or resolution to her 'problem'. But the look in her eyes now... it almost seemed helpless. In a rare moment of compliance, she did as Heilyn asked and dragged a protesting Sasha up to the room. Heilyn gripped the man's arm, then pulled him into a hug. Of all the people that had to be on the side lines... "They'll be fine. I think even Tegan realizes the severity of this. Between Seth, Sorcha, and Tegan, the four little ones should be fine. I'm coming with you to ensure your safety." If any stray hits came Bernard's way, Heilyn vowed to keep him safe from them. As Bernard made his announcement, Heilyn stood a few feet back. Heilyn twitched at the sight of Se. This was His Majesty's son?! She'd heard stories, but the reality of it was jarring. Even the mutations she'd seen in native Bog Dwellers couldn't much compare... and the insane drabblings that spewed out of him. Her piercing yellow eyes narrowed. If this little Outsider version of a Raider beat Se... she would do anything rid the world of him. He would not have a seat of power. She gave Rai a look in a silent expression of her support.

The mix watched both of the men through careful, calculated eyes. He had checked many times before the fight to make sure that everything was as it should be for the fight. Once it was called he could not interfere so everything had to be set now. There was not times for second chances. Though he was starting to feel nervous about all of this he refused to let any of the feelings show. Not willing to take his eyes off of the father and son he reached out with one hand to capture that of his wife's, offering and taking silent support from it. A movement from the corner of his eye pulled his attention away only slightly. Seeing that it was King Bernard the mix bowed his head toward the man with respect. When the man started to announce the rules he bit his lip. And as the hand fell signaling the start of the fight . . .

As soon as the fight was begun by the skinny King, Se slammed the Queen with his pain ability, the feeling as though the stallion’s nails were being pried out of his hands and feet. It was a distraction tactic only; the Yarrows hybrid tucked his wings in close and charged towards his father.
He wasn’t going to go all of the way, however; nor was he willing to actually touch his father just yet. The Queen deserved—no, needed—to suffer for his crimes. He wouldn’t waste their time with words; the time for placating, compromises, and excuses were long gone and it wasn’t Se’s fault that Rai had missed the mark on all of these.
He just needed the stallion close enough so he could activate his other abilities. His oblivious, evil father had no idea about his forms, no idea about his abilities, no idea about his weapons. Just as soon as the other Queen got near enough, Se would show him all that he had to offer. His lips twisted in a sneer.
Strong Magical Ability: When activated, he can inflict mental pain on another card of any suit, once per day. The degree of pain is very much like someone is prying the nails out of the victims' hands and feet.
