The Yarrow pup 'sat pretty' on the surface of a booth in the bazaar, posing with one paw half-raised as he'd been instructed by one of his handlers. His wings fluttered in the breeze like bits of colorful paper and his yellow-tipped tail curled around his feet. From his dainty build to his attractive colors, he was quite the pretty thing and the trader had high hopes in selling him. He made quite the showpiece. Winnie refrained from doing anything besides blinking and passively watching the world go by. Whimpering wasn't appropriate to attract customers and he needed to be awake in case anyone showed an interest. He'd been given quite comprehensive instructions from the person selling him. Besides, he'd done this before a few years ago, and again a few years before that. Some of the handlers cooed at him and said it was a shame he hadn't found his 'forever home' yet, which made him want to curl up somewhere and be ill, but he just smiled as they expected until they left. No other reaction would be appropriate. He just had to wait to be sold again and hope that his new home wasn't as bad as his last one had been. At least the old woman had died before she could forget to feed him again. He winced as a child reached up to tug at his mane curiously, glad when their mother told them that it wasn't nice to tug on such a pretty pet's hair. Nasty little sprog. He hoped she ended up as chubby as her mother.

Acantha pranced prettily causing the small rings on her mask to chime and ring beautifully. She was out on a mission, a task at hand. After giving a cute pout and plead to her grandfather she had convinced him to give her money for a new gift. He had not asked specifically what it was but if he had she was sure that he would not mind. He was her grandpa after all. Tilting her head she looked at her partner. "Which one do you think I should choose, Uncle Levi?" She asked him, though considering that she had not told him what mission she was on - other than buying a present for herself - he might not have figured it out. Then again he was a smart horse. They had just made it to the beginning of the booths that were selling Aces. Her options looked to be quite numerous.

Levi still didn't really understand why in the world he was here, but now that he was he was forced to come along, he found himself growing interested. Aces were something he didn't really understand; why would anyone want something so entirely dependent on you? Also, Aunt Dre's bander scared him quite often. He said very angry, ugly things, and sent everyone very dirty looks and! It was always very cold around the thing. Dre never reacted, however, and the Tulgey Wood Ace sometimes made him wonder if he was insane like Uncle Se. The colt's ears twisted through the flames back towards the girl and he sent her a sidelong glance. "I'm not your uncle, Acantha." He gave a small sigh and stared towards a bound Torquehelm Ace. "I don't think this one could even move."

Winnie maintained his vacant 'showpiece' expression as the crowd passed him by like a stream full of colorful debris. He'd only been up for sale about four days now and had heard predictions that he wouldn't be here much longer thanks to interest. Plenty of people had looked at him, some charmed by his delicate appearance and others not liking the hints of intelligence they saw in his eyes. A few Yarrow women had even stopped by and been appalled when informed of his gender. Apparently he was an affront to the region in the eyes of more than his father. He'd been told to look 'more vapid', whatever that meant. The people selling him knew he was more educated than the average Ace, and probably smarter as well. Maybe he was just supposed to look bored? He could do that.
A flash of flame to the side caught his attention and he started, leaning away from the whatever-it-was that burned. After a moment, he could see that it was actually a Card with a fiery mane and tail. People were giving him a wide birth in the crowded bazaar thanks to the heat from those flames. How... remarkable.
He couldn't help but stare as the individual moved closer to the stall where he sat on the counter. The Highlander next to the creature hadn't yet distinguished herself from the crowd, though only because of her companion.

"Of course you are." She replied definitively as she moved to stand before the Torquehelm Ace. She tilted her head to the side causing a soft chime at the action.
"Hrms . . . No, he would not do very well would he." A pet who could not move would be no fun to have around. She might as well get a Bander if she wanted someone who was going to be a lot of work like that. She moved on to look at the one that was next to him, a Morganberry sparrow, but soon became bored with this one as well.
She wanted a pretty pet. Though not so pretty that people would look at the pet and not her. No that would never do. The pet needed to compliment her, not contradict.
Sitting down she gave a small shake as if to brush off imaginary dust, causing her glass ornamentations to catch the sunlight and the rings to chime again. She loved doing that.
Turning her attention back to the Aces she pondered the few that she could see from this angle. That was when she spotted the posed yarrow Ace. He was pretty. "Levi, look at that one." She pointed to the Ace with a paw.

Levi gave a brief shake of his head, tossing flames a bit haphazardly, though they were quick to dissipate without the source encouraging their existence. He idly watched Acantha as she 'cleaned' herself up, but he was already beginning to suspect that she posed because she liked the attention.
It worked for her, though, and that caused the equine to smile briefly. A few of the passerbys paused to watch and one woman gave a delighted laugh. Levi snorted softly in amusement, but the girl was already off again, her attention diverted one more.
With a sigh he trotted after her, instinctively arching his striped neck to fit in with their little showboat attitude. He stopped next to the girl and his ears went back as he stared in some shock at the Ace. A very pretty canine with fairy wings.
"It looks like my Uncle Iphis," the boy said in some awe. "Acantha, you have to get this one; wot if it's related to me?!" The thought of selling his uncle's children appalled him; even the pet Aces should stay in the family!

The fire-maned Card was moving nearer and Winnie leaned away a little bit more, both fascinated and intimidated by the flames. He noticed the fiery reflection bouncing off something next to it and wondered how the other Card achieved that effect. It looked like... glass? What an utterly bizarre pair. He watched them with a curious, analyzing expression until he saw the paler one point a paw in his direction and realized with a start that they were talking about him.
His attention quickly snapped back in front of him, but he had trouble holding the showy pose when the fire moved closer in the corner of his eye. He very determinedly didn't look in that direction until they were practically in front of him and it was a lot harder. He sneaked a glance, eyes the only things to move, before flicking them back straight ahead.
...related? He wanted to laugh. He wasn't related to anyone anymore according to his handlers. Pet Aces weren't allowed to have families besides the one that purchased them. The thought was a bitter pill in his mind and he shivered reflexively, papery wings waving as if a breeze had run through the stall. They were definitely potential buyers, and he could already feel the person behind the booth coming up behind him. The Morganberry feline man could practically smell a sale.

"Who is Uncle Iphis?" She asked Levi, interested by his comment. She was not aware that he had any other brothers.
Turning her attention back to the pretty ace she tilted her head from side to side as she took him in. She already knew that he was a pretty ace but now she took in all of it. It had really pretty coloring, the white and yellow was close to her own. The purple were beautiful highlight to the prettiness. And the wings. Those were something she wanted to squee over, though it was a little sad that they were not as pretty as her own.
There was nothing about him that would suggest that she would not like him. Not to mention Levi said that she should get him. Seeing the Morganberry feline coming closer she gave him a winning smile while she pointed at the Ace. "How much for him?"

Levi turned to tilt his head at the girl; oh, right. Most people probably wouldn't be overly aware of his family history. Sometimes he forgot that not everyone immediately knew what he knew. It was such a novelty sometimes that he could only pause to wonder before off-handedly tossing out an answer to her question. "He's my Uncle Iphis, of course. One of Auntie Ira's younger siblings." The colt paused, head-tilting briefly to one side. "I guess that means he's actually my half brother." Really, it was just easier to refer to them all as uncles and aunts than to think of them as siblings. At least Father didn't have any living relatives; that could have made things awkward.
The pet seemed a little bit leery every time Levi leaned forward, and the boy felt obligated to test this theory by leaning forward and then leaning back again.

Winnie swallowed and leaned back again when the fiery horse tilted towards him, trying to disguise the movement as a shift from balancing on one paw to the other. He didn't know how successful or nonchalant the gesture turned out, but the thought of that fire so close to him left him sweating a little. He was made of fur. Fur was flammable.
The Morganberry stepped up to the counter, glanced at the canine in question, and leaned his elbows on the wooden surface. "You have lovely taste, m'dear. He's a well-bred little thing and completely housebroken. I'm sure he's also very trainable and his nature is docile. Responds to the name 'Winnie'." He quoted a price, about the equivalent to buying a purebred dog in a pet store, and raised his eyebrows. "I could also throw in a pretty little collar and leash so that you could take him off in style. There have been other people interested, so I'm not going to be holding him for anyone in particular. The first person who meets the price is going to be the one who gets him."
