Judging by what Ven was muttering under her breath, Vishne had a sinking suspicion that he was going to get blamed for all of this, which made him want to go home all the sooner. Maybe if they all just beat him up they could get it out of their systems and leave him alone.
But now they were on their way a whole different place that was most certainly not in the same direction as his warm fluffy bed. He was dismayed to realize that he wanted his mother. Or just Ven. Anyone who would tell him that he was stupid and worthless and that he should never do something like this again.
The second town they wandered into was in no better condition than the first--it did, indeed, look a little bit worse, and there was some kind of foul odor that was even more noxious. He looked hard at a couple of the houses and saw a telltale sign of lack of sanitation systems.
That was just uncivilized.
He wondered if Se knew exactly where they were headed or if they were gonna need to stop and ask another rotting beast.

Ira smiled beatifically at his sister and tucked his hindquarters so he could bump hers lightly with his own. "Eventually we'll either find wot we're looking for, or we'll die trying." This concept seemed to amuse him a great deal more than it should. He glanced back over his shoulder and his smile turned slightly malicious. "Keep an eye on him, Ven, or he won't come back out of here." With that sage advice-- and perhaps something of a warning that he wouldn't be keeping an eye on the pretty little boy-- the teal colt skipped back up to their youngest sibling.
Ira glanced around the next town with the same amount of curiousity he'd had when they first entered the region. It looked, amazingly, almost exactly the same only worse. The Lowlands were truly a marvel of architectural wonder.

Just as Vishne feared, Se stopped at one of the first people who didn't immediately bolt upon their entrance into town -- he was lacking most of his hindquarters and both of his hind legs-- and demanded to know where Niklaus was.
It took a few minutes of some bullying but they finally got directions from a small Lowland child who spat in Ira's direction. "Niklaus is right at the west side of town and he'll put you in your place! He knows Zeus!"
Obviously this was something of some import to the child, but Se blew it off; though still young himself, they were all older than the puppy and the yellow mix turned and headed to the west without another word.
The puppy yelled insults at their backs, joined tentatively by a few others, though they grew more bolder the further away the group went.

At her brother's words her ears went back again. Those were definitely a strange set of words for warning. Feeling more than a little threatened by her brother, she had to quickly squash the urge to reach out and bite at him. It would not do her any good to edge him on. He had eaten flesh flesh for fun before after all.
Watching him head off to catch up with their younger brother she gave a small growl that had to have come from what small part of her mother she had in her genes. Glancing back at her twin she considered their options. At this point in time, there was nothing that would cause her to admit defeat and head back home.
"Keep up." She told her brother. She was tempted to bite at his feet if he did not keep pace. Stress and her was something that did not mix well.

Vishne did not need to be told twice. If he was going to be stuck here, he was also going to be stuck damn close to his sister. He felt like, if things got messy, she would be the most likely person to protect him from harm. Of course, when compared to zero chance and zero chance, anything else would look pretty good, but he tried not to think about that.
He didn't want to be put in his place by some Lowlander thug so now, on top of the general evil of the area, he had something else to worry about. Death and danger lurked around every corner. Why couldn't there be safe danger?
"Guys," he said, nervously. "Can we forget about the knife and go home? I mean there are plenty of knives in the capital and I'm sure that you could find one that would suffice for cutting carrots into finer slices or whatever it is you want to use the knife for and--" He stopped when he realized he was rambling.

Ira tilted an ear back out Vishne and dropped back so he could talk to that particular sibling now. He smiled at the froofy-coloured boy and adopted an almost normal tone and attitude, ignoring whatever looks or warnings Venka sent his way. "Hey, Vishne. You think we're just here for a lark, huh? That we need to prove ourselves our something?" He tilted his head closer to the boy as though about to impart some deep secret. "This. Is Not. A Game."
Se called his name and Ira flicked his tail, snapping it against V's side as he trotted back forward. "Stick with Venka, Vishne."
His amusement slipped away as he went to catch up with his youngest sibling. He regarded the yellow back and awkwardly mantled wings with a great deal more concern than he would show to anyone else. At least his warnings should keep the fear of rot in his other two siblings.
"Heyla, Se," the young horse was all smiles and joy again. "Wot'd you need?"

When Ira came up to his side, it almost seemed as though Se had forgotten he'd even called the eldest sibling. He turned to side-glance at the taller boy, but his eyes quickly fell back forward. "Look."
Only a few yards away, a small hut sat precariously at the edge of something that might have been a clearing if it weren't for the fact that everything was covered in and falling into and simply being disgusting rot. Despite appearances, however, the house was a great deal more stable than anything else they'd seen thus far.
"There's prosperity here." Ira's voice was low.
Se snorted in response. "Not prosperity. He's doing better though. This is the one."
He didn't wait for any further agreement from the colt; he strode forward confidently despite the muck and grossness. He banged on the door which re-confirmed his suspicions. "Niklaus!" he growled.

She was slightly amazed when the next small village they came to in their journey looked - amazingly enough - better then the one before. There seemed to be more people around in a more organized manner. Something she had never wanted to see and would not have believed it she had not.
She would never admit it but she was on board with what her twin suggested. That sounded like a good idea. Why had her brother wanted to come here in the first place? Seriously "V, keep close, okay?" If her brother caught any hint that she was slightly scared she would have denied it and then stepped on his foot with her hoof.
When her youngest brother went to the door and started banging on it her ears flattened once again in agitation. He was going to get all of them killed.

Staying close to Ven seemed to be the order of the day (and, really, the order of his life), and he was more than happy to oblige. He had no desire to be the first in the path when this Niklaus person barged through the door and incinerated them with fiery evil or something for daring to disturb him. He wondered why Ven didn't step up and put her foot down and stop all this nonsense. Surely Se and Ira would see the error of their ways when their brave and smart sister showed them the light. Perhaps she had her reasons. Or she was scared. Vishne didn't want to think about Ven being afraid of anything.
There was a faint patter of slow footsteps inside the shop that were immediately drowned out by the pounding on the door. Vishne tensed up and waited for the end to come.

The door creaked open partially and an old Coonhound stood there, looking blearily out. "Zeus?" the creaking old voice asked curiously. "You're back early. Did you get the information you needed?"
"My name's not Zeus," Se snapped. "I require your services."
The man's head tilted sideways, wariness entering his gaze. "And who are you, young one?" the man asked slowly. "You aren't familiar to me."
The winged hybrid glowered towards the man, but, unlike the others, he seemed entirely unfazed by Se's strange, pupil-less gaze. Se's lip curled. "I am Se. Let us in."
The Lowlander dog considered it for a long moment, but finally he stepped back and let his door creak slowly open with him as he retreated back inside. "Enter then, brash one. Come and share your woes."
Se trotted in without hesitating.
