Stupid. long claws absently tapped out a gentle rhythm on the stone flooring in the hallway, ears laid back and flushed red on the insides from embarrassment. He'd just tried to help. That was all. He hadn't meant to snag the linens with his claw. And even worse, Valeny had been there to see him chastised by the older leveret. He really didn't know why it affected him so. Valeny was just a new leveret.. but he found himself caring what she thought of him. She was just... different from the rest. So now all he could do was sit there; deemed more a nuisance than a help, and sent away to do 'some other chore'. The issue with that was that Aleah was not -good- at any other chores, and the garden had been tended to already. So what was he to do? He couldn't just sit in the hallway; the Czar wouldn't appreciate him sitting about in plain view with nothing to do. If only he could run errands like the other leverets. Valeny. Always, his mind went back to her! Valeny with the fiery mane, Valeny with the proud way she walked. So full of purpose, of life... She was truly special. Sometimes, Aleah wished he were more like her. Happy, content with what she had. Aleah was not content. In fact, he was malcontent. Never had he felt worse in his life. The few nights he dreamed, they were confusing ones of flashes of highland markings. Warm fur, closeness... like a very nice hug. He liked, and disliked those dreams. The poor leveret was still too naive to even know what they meant, even in his adulthood! Stupid dreams.

Heike had been watching. He's ears twitched furiously as he wrinkled his nose. Really. This was nonsense. That boy got into more trouble than he could even comprehend. Liens being torn, things falling to bits. It wasn't his honest flat that he had massive claws, but it made everything difficult. And he had gone off to sulk after being scolded. He wasn't a child anymore, and honestly the older rabbit forgot. So he went to apologize (as close as he could get to one anyway) and found the boy sitting in the hallway day dreaming. "Where's your head now," Heike said as he walked up to the other rabbit. "You have been out of it more so than usual, and it's starting to show. What is going on?"It was blunt. It lacked class. But Heike wasn't going to sit around and play games while things were getting ridiculous.

Aleah gave a bit of a jump as his thoughts were interrupted, wide eyes going from Heike's face before angling sharply back to the ground as if he were doing some inappropriate thing. Indeed, some of this thoughts felt inappropriate most of the time.
He was messing things up, looking like and idiot in front of Valeny and now even Heike was looking at him as if his head wasn't screwed on right. He glanced self consciously towards the room where the other leverets were at work and heaved a great, weary sigh that told of more than just his typical fatigue. "I feel like I can't do anything right lately. Valeny is just.. such a good worker and I can't keep up with her. She's good at everything she does and she gets things done faster than most anyone in the warren. The poor young man looked mortified that he had just admitted such a thing, leaning back to let his head hit the wall. "I don't want her thinking I'm useless."

Heike raised his eyebrows. Last time he checked, Valeny wasn't particularly special, she did her job like everyone else did. She was a pretty leveret who knew her manners and knew what to do. And beyond that....
His ears twitched as he stared at the other rabbit. Why would he be so hung up on... Oh. That would be a particularly good reason to be hung up on someone. The older rabbit shifted and shook his head.
"I hate to burst your little bubble, but she's not particularly outstanding. I think there's another reason why you think you can't do anything right." Heike rolled his eyes. Why was he the one who was giving him this little talk? Why hadn't he done it sooner? Well, probably because everyone had to learn for themselves. The rabbit chided Aleah for hitting his head before continuing in a more somber tone.
"You clearly have some feelings for her."

At first, Aleah looked as if he were about to advance on the fellow leveret, his tired face contorting into anger as he straightened up and opened his mouth in protest. How could he say that? She was -great-! Everything about her demeanor and overall presence sent chills down his spi-... what?
The moment of anger turned into a blank, confused expression. "F--f....feelings? No... I mean.. what?" He dug his knuckles into his scalp to scratch absently at his short, inky mane as he tried to absorb that bit of information. "Well yeah she's my friend but.. no.. that's just between Does and Jacks, right?" Did leverets actually.. do those things too? For a moment he gave Heike an odd look, and the mental image that struck him made the younger male turn his head in embarrassment. "I.. I didn't know leverets had those kinds of feelings for another. I thought we were... we were all brothers and sisters.. that kind of love."

He honestly hadn't expected him to be that stupid. What little hope Heike had flew out the window with that over leveret's statement. It didn't take a genius to figure out that you could have feelings for someone else. Even if they were absolutely disgusting. Heike personally didn't want to admit that he had feelings "like that" for one person. The fact that he tolerated three rabbits was a miracle alone.
"I never gave you the "sex" talk because I thought you were smart enough to figure it out on your own. However, let me explain in the simplest way possible." Heike sat on his hind legs, raising his paws and putting them together as he launched into an explanation.
"Leverets can have emotions for other leverets, and sometimes when they do... they have sex with each other. Nothing can really come of it, thank the White rabbit. But you do have the proper genitalia to put in the proper place. So you can like someone in a more than sisterly or brotherly way." He opened his paws. A rather unamused expression on his face. "Does this make any sense to you?"

As Heike talked, Aleah's face became a more distorted version of shock. Eyes bulging, ears pinned back, his mouth dropped and an expression that looked something akin to horror as he listened. It was like a young kid walking in on their parents having sex, thinking daddy was beating up mommy.
At the mention of genitalia, his legs snapped firmly closed as if to hide his shame. "But.. but.. It just... It seems so -dirty-. Perhaps I have.. romanticized the notion of Doe and Jack love, and everything else seems just a touch.. odd." Leverets worked... how could they work if they had such notions in their head! Then again it at least didn't seem to prevalent. He didn't remember seeing or hearing anything that sounded like what went on in the Czar's bedroom.
"Have... have -you-.." He couldn't even finish the sentence. It made him almost want to throw up asking. Not necessarily because it was a vile thought so much as the embarrassment of asking, and the upheaval of all of his notions of how things were up until this point.

Oh for the love of the White Rabbit he was as dumb as a post. Heike made a rather irate sound as he slowly repositioned himself on all fours. How could anyone be this left in the dark? Was it that hard to figure out two plus two?
Clearly he got his smarts from that crazy mother of his. That Doe... and her notions. His ears quivered at the very thought of the terrifying Hisstor.
"I hate to burst your little romantic bubble. But sex is sex. If you really think about what the Does and Jacks do it's... not that pleasant. It's just ten times worse between two leverets because there's no real point to it." He tilted his head. "Well, the point would be showing affection but I think there are better ways of doing so. And, frankly, it's none of your damned business if I've had sex or not."
He would smack the boy if it was worth the effort, and it most certainly wasn't.

Staring.. was getting old. That wide eyed, deer caught in headlights stare seemed permanently plastered to his face. It was obvious he didn't like what he was hearing. His eyes were glazing over, thinking.. of other things. Not entirely related, but yet with some segway in his mind.
not that pleasant... ten times worse...
No. It couldn't just be that cut and dry. It couldn't be so depressing. Being a leveret was... horrible, and having confusing urges to boot with none of the power... Yes... it was ten times worse.
But there was no way things could still be so lackluster as a Jack. His head was slowly beginning to shake side to side, mouth moving wordlessly for a few moments before hoarse mumbles began to escape. Eventually, they grew loud enough to become legible. "You're wrong..." He said it over and over, raising in tempo before he jumped to his feet. "NO! You're Fucking WRONG!"
Seething. Tired. All he saw was red, his claws threatened to dig into the cobblestone floors. "Heike. You're bitter. You're never going to be -anything- but a leveret. Of course you're going to be bitter. But you're wrong. It's a hundred times better -running- your own warren than cleaning up the refuse of those who you work for! Damnit Heike, the Czar -tolerates- you. But he's not going to tolerate me, not for long. He's made it -quite- clear, Heike, that if I don't do something with myself... I'm disposable. -DISPOSABLE- We -both- know what that means, Heike!" He was all but spitting the name out every time he uttered it, hackles raised and claws clacking ominously on the cobblestone. "Don't you sit there and try to tell me that my life is gonna be shit no matter what I do, because -that- is what you are doing! So FUCK OFF."

Heike slowly turned bright red under his fur as he listened to the boy rant about he knew nothing. The one who knew nothing was clearly the idiot in front of him. Aleah could never understand what he had gone through in his childhood. What he wanted to do. Who he wanted to protect. That he was in love with Igni and could do nothing about it. That his sister could be taken from him at any moment.
"You idiot boy. You know nothing," he said in a completely level voice. "You have no idea what it's like to be miserable and powerless. You have no idea what it means to fall in love with someone, and know how much you want to be with them but can't because you'd be murdered if you tried. You could never understand what it's like to worry about your family the way I do. Do you know why? Because you've had it easy so far. You haven't had to pretend. You haven't had to worry for your life each night."
He shook his head. "You're just a boy still. So leave if you can't find your dreams here. You obviously have time since you aren't so bitter and jaded as I am. You are not as disposable as you claim to be. So grow up, and prove your father that you're worthy already. Life has never been perfect and true love isn't as romantic as you make seem in your head. Those are just facts that you would have found out one way or another."
