Though her answers were quite often short, Rhiannon seemed to be quite pleased with them and she danced around the woman as they made their way to her home. Her tongue lolled out of the corner of her mask quite comically. Compared to the temperate climate that the girl had grown up in, it was positively toasty here!
She couldn't deny it, though, the sun did feel quite lovely on her coat.
She moved close to the squirrel, practically touching her leaf-shaped nose to the woman's face in her excitement. It would seem that she had quite a bit of difficulty with understanding boundaries. The nose twitched slightly before the girl sat back, taking up a more comfortable distance once again. "You're amazing, miss Zuberi!" she exclaimed, wiggling with excitement. Many long hours had been spent between her and her brother staring at the object and wondering if they'd ever meet the craftsperson who'd made it. "She loved it. She actually kissed papa when he gave it to her," she giggled. It was a story that Seth had been forced to tell herself and Hadrian many, many times - there was a period of their lives when they'd asked about it almost daily.

Zuberi... was positively giggling her head off, despite the intrusion. Well, there was certainly a lot of puppy in her! That would probably be thanks to the coyote in her. With the compliment though, she grinned a bit bashfully. It wasn't often anyone called her amazing. In fact, she couldn't even remember at time such a compliment had been donned on her. Still grinning, she reached out and gently ruffled the girl's mane good-naturedly.
The comment about Heilyn though, made her giggle even more. By word of mouth, she'd heard what a notorious woman Seth's particular interest was.. and she'd suspect such a token of affection would be a rare thing between the two. Well... nothing particularly bad to say about the Bog dwellers.. but the stereotype... Bah. There was the exception to the stereotype right in front of her, though that very well might be because it was Seth's daughter.
"Well, I be glad she loved it. They were prolly already totally fallen for each other by the time I came into the picture, but I like to think I.. helped things along." She'd began to walk again; they really should get back to the house so she could cook the plantains.. "Come to tink of it, I might have even contributed to your existence, in that way, helping your parents fall in love!" She was being silly, and could barely contain her mirth at that. "So I s'pose ya haf me to thank, then."

The squirrel's giggling sent the child into small fits of laughter as well, hiding her face under the tuft of hair that sprouted from under her mask. She listened to the woman speak, considering her words carefully. She didn't understand any of what Zuberi was saying, when she truely considered it, but... Love and babies were something that she would learn more about when she was older. She was sure it had a lot in common with the magazines that she and Hadrian had found hidden under her mother's bed, but... That couldn't be all of it. People liked love, and those magazines were just gross!
She froliced a few feet in front of the woman, her entire rear wiggling with the force of her wagging tail. "That's... that's AWESOME! Miss Zuberi, thank you!" she cried, practically spinning in a circle.
Then she froze again, one eye twitching very subtly under her mask. "But my creation occured before there was mutual love. Sex, lust, and love... Not always connected as they should be, wouldn't you agree?" she commented, then began to walk once more, tail swaying lightly as she did. "All the same. Without you, I would likely only have my mother. That wouldn't be pleasant."

Zuberi gave the girl a rather odd look, contemplating just.. what exactly transpired. Finally, she decided that she really.. didn't have much to say. This was.. quite the odd girl. Instead, she smiled, gesturing kindly for the girl to continue following.
"Never mind that right now though.. We have some cooking to do!" Her grin broadened as she swayed her bag a bit, letting the fruity smells waft through the air.
It wasn't a far walk to her home; it was slightly to the outer edges of the village, but not necessarily in seclusion. It was rather.. just a little into the jungle.. just a few steps into the thick underbrush, thick vines running up the sides of the house. She'd moved into it only recently.
Pushing the door open, it revealed the heady scents of fruit, astringent herbs.. and the obvious scent of cooked chicken. There were.. odd bottles everywhere.. just little knick-knacks floating in vinegar. Zuberi just suddenly had the urge to collect things out of nowhere. Chicken eyes... feet.. the different organs from other animals. Cleaned skulls lined shells, often draped with shells threaded onto woven hemp. The overall effect of the mostly one room home was.. spooky... Not Zuberi's usual motif at all... not until lately anyways.
With a sigh, she set her bag down, stretching to pop her back before busying herself with lighting the fire to the stove and starting up a cone of incense on the table. "Sorry about the mess. Feel free to make yeself at home."

"Yes!" the girl barked cheerily at the news, nose raised high once more to catch each hint of odor given off by the bag of fruits. Her strange speech from before was completely forgotten (or was it unknown to the girl? She definitely did not give off the air of one who was entirely in control of her own mind), replaced with only the strong desire to help this amazing squirrel-woman as much as she possibly could.
As they entered Zuberi's hut, her joyful prancing slowed somewhat, and her ears flicked back against her neck as she glanced over the objects that decorated the walls and seemed to fill the room with their imposing presence. She sniffed at one of the bottles, nosing it to better see what was stored inside, then cringed away as an eye rotated inside. "EEH! she exclaimed, bouncing away from it. Almost shyly, the girl crept towards the skulls, blinking in wide-eyed amazement as she glanced them over. They were much more appealing than the eye in vineagar, that was for sure.
"Miss Zuberi! Miss, why do you have all these things?" she asked, whirling to look at the squirrel again, ears flicking forward in earnest interest. "Could it be that you understand that which scares most, as I do? It is just the unknown..."

Zuberi paused, turning slowly away from the stove to give the girl a curious look. Oh yes, she was noticing things, alright.. and she wasn't sure whether to be afraid or intrigued. In the past, she would have probably been fearful, rejected the girl, but now.. very new avenues had been opening up to her in the past year or so.
"The remains of what once lived.. and even those of what still do live... are not a thing to be feared.. but respected... utilized." Absently, she went back to cooking, tossing the peeled plantains into the frying pan, causing them to sizzle in the oil she had put onto the cast iron.
In another pot, she placed a variety of herbs and spices, pulling out a net from her bag that held a variety of seafood life and brought them to a cutting board placed on the top of a hoosier style cabinet and went about preparing them.
"People often exhume the bodies of our dearly departed and keep dem within our homes. Those skulls... are people in me family who are no longer a part of this plane of existence."

The woman spoke a language that seemed to flow through Rhiannon's body, tickling her ears and pulling her interest away from the skulls and back to the busy little Midori. The girl walked to the woman's side and watched with keen eyes as she busied herself with the cooking, listening closely to every word she said.
"I never thought I would meet another with my ideals," the girl finally said, a small smile appearing on her muzzle as she turned to study the skulls once more. Such reverence and respect towards the dead and death itself... It sent a small shiver of pleasure through the girl, and she had to take at least some time to sit back and enjoy it.
When she walked over to the squirrel, the expression on her face was... different, somehow younger and more innocent. She put her nose on the board, careful to keep her distance from the sharp knife and pinching claws of the seafood, lifting amber-toned eyes to study the woman. "...Do you miss them, miss Zuberi?" she asked, voice wavering slightly.

Zuberi paused, her thoughtful working expression melting into a more.. somber one. It wasn't a question she was asked often; normally those who had even seen the inside of her home were people who fully understood the significance of the skulls and didn't.. ask such questions. Still she wouldn't take offense to it, for it merely was.. a chance to reaffirm her beliefs.. if only to herself, that was.
"Sometimes.. but it is selfish of me to feel that way.. at least by our customs. Death is not the end to things and it is disrespectful to mourn." So we desensitize ourselves to death by surrounding ourselves with it... That last comment was staunchly kept to herself. It would do her no good to talk of such things with the girl... all messed up enough right now, it seemed.
With a soft smile, Zuberi reached out and scruffed the young child's hair, the other paw firmly keeping the flailing lobster pinned. She frowned at it, taking the hand in which she had inflicted such affection to pick up a strange blade and...
The metal sliced through the softer part on the lobster's head, severing nerves and arteries and causing the creature to flail violently before going still, only the mild pulsing and twitching as nerve endings fired brainlessly through the body, the death throes of a beast that no longer felt pain.. felt fear. "I... think we go someplace better.. after it all."

One of Rhiannon's ears twitched slightly as she listened to the squirrel's reply, her head tipped to the side. The girl was the picture of thoughtful consideration, her vivid eyes bright and considering. For a long time, the girl was perfectly silent, simply listening to the squirrel speak. When Zuberi fell silent between thoughts Rhiannon rested her head on the counter once more. Her eyes fell on the previously-offending lobster, and ever the daring child, she sniffed at it, letting out a muffled squeak as it made one last lunge for her nose before the squirrel pulled it away. A wide and happy smile spread across her muzzle at the ruffling of her hair, mostly hidden by her mask, and her tail began to beat a quiet rhythm on the floor.
It matched the beat of the chopping knife, and then, the death throes of the animal. Amber eyes widened.
Death was inside her. It was with her, holding her, guiding her to the lobster.
A small death, but a death, worthy of praise. She didn't blink, just watched the body spasm, the legs pulsing slightly with the last desperate cries of a nervous system separated from its master. She could taste it, and in her mind, it was as if she could see the beady eyes go dull.
Zuberi's words seemed to wake the girl from some sort of stupor, and she blinked, shaking hair out of her eyes before peering up at the squirrel. "Someplace... Better? I like it here, though... Can you tell me about it? Would there be grass to roll in there?"
