At last! The sweet cries of fear she had so been looking forward to hearing. She let it continue on for a few moments, trying to judge if they were as satisfying as she thought they would be. They were. She supposed she should get up and step in. She just wanted to terrify the munchkin, after all, and after a while panicked brats got annoying in a very specific yet undefinable way.
She roused herself from her blanket and made her way over to the bramble while uttering some appropriate "Oh you poor dear hold on!" type noises. She crouched down where the spawn had entered the thicket. The Hair gave a disgruntled wiggle when she told it to move branches, but complied.
"Come on, dear! Come back a little further!" Then the brat could escape easy. And she could deal with the bander. And a traumatized little child would never want to return. It was beautiful in its simplicity.

Mirriam kept backing up, tears of pain still stinging her eyes, looking balefully at the angry Bander. That didn't go at all as planned. Noticing a piece of the branch on the ground, and needing a way to slow the creature down, Mirriam elected to use the new ability she'd recently discovered. Touching the branch with a claw, she held it there just long enough for the bander's claw-filled paw to come crashing down...and stick to the now-liquefied branch like it was a patch of glue. The Bander sneezed, struggling to free its paw, and Mirriam continued to back up, ears twitching as she heard the King calling her. But as she made it the final few feet out of the thorns, she cast one last, almost apologetic glance at the Bander, who had finally managed to get free and was sullenly trooping back to its nest, sneezing angrily all the while and shaking its paw.
"I'm sorry Fangyteeth, but you should have listened when I said I just wanted to be friends! Then I wouldn't have had to stick your paw to the ground." Shaking her head, Mirriam got free of the branches and walked awkwardly back a few paces, shaking out her blood-speckled fur. She looked up at the King, then. "You were right...it wasn't a very nice monster," she said sadly.
Mnem may have known about traumatizing experiences, but she forgot to account for childhood's sheer resilience. Mirriam would, however, be more wary around both Banders and thorns in the future. Especially since her cuts were stinging oddly now.
Small Ability: Once a week, this ability allows the user to melt objects made of stone or wood that are the size of their hand or smaller into a viscous fluid similar to honey. It will re-solidify after 30 minutes/hours in whatever shape its liquid form took.

Huh. The little girl seemed to have stopped the bander on her own, by, from what she could see and gather from the kid's words, goo. Some people had such odd little abilities. No matter. Mnem was sure she had experienced enough sorrow at that point for the lesson to be learned, the most important lesson any child could hope to learn: Mnem's space was to be avoided.
She would likely be very upset to learn that Mirriam was, in fact, as dauntless as her dottiest offspring.
She put on her Concerned Authority Figure face. That one always fit kind of awkwardly, but she could work it.
"Come now, let's take you away. Those little thorn bites are going to be a horrific rash soon. But the infirmary can take care of you for a few days till the pain stops." She patted the sprog awkwardly on the head. Affection to Children was not part of her emotional makeup. "I'll take care of the bander now that you've lured him closer and ensnared him. Be mindful of this place from now on; it's deadly. There's a good girl."

((ooc: I apologize. I somehow did not think it was my turn.))
Mirriam scrunched her face up in confusion. Why was the King looking at her like that? Did she taste something sour? She would never have acosiated it with any sort of concerned anything expression, other than perhaps someone concerned about finding a spider in their breakfast cereal.
"A rash? Aww that doesn't sound fun. I got one of those once from some weird plants I found in our neighbor's yard and Mom made me this white cold stuff that she put on it and it felt all tingly and better," she said, smiling again somehow, even though the cuts were starting to sting. "What is an in-fur-Mary?" She tilted her head curiously, but then gasped.
"But if it is deadly, why are you here? Does someone make you live here? Or! It must be your job to take care of all the mean Fangy monsters and thorny plants! Well that is sad, but I will come if you ever need me to stop them for you!" Mirriam looked up at the canine happily, as if she had just offered something very helpful. After all, she was going to have to get used to saving people if she was going to be a superhero!

Mnem did her very best not to issue an exasperated sigh and simply dropkick the little bat out of her garden. If the kid opened her wings at just the right moment, she could catch some impressive air. Probably just glide all the way to Corvistowne or something. Somewhere far, far away.
She led the spawn forward, trying to take her to the infirmary. She wanted to hand the kid off to other capable hands, as she didn't want to be near her when the itching and pain got unbearable; the miserable tears of children were like poison to her soul. It wasn't that she wasn't sympathetic, it was just that...well, she wasn't sympathetic. Nobody's perfect.
"That's right, I take care of all the mean things here. If I ever need a hand again, I'll be sure to give you a call."

The little bat let herself be led forward. Already her cuts and scratches were feeling very uncomfy, and were only getting worse. "Well okay! Hey wait, you must be a superhero too then, protecting all the Kings and Queens and Princesses from evil fangy monsters," Mirriam exclaimed, ears perking at this new revelation. "That's really cool! We must be the only two superheroes in the whole Palace!" This thought excited the child, who gave an excited little flap and then continued to follow the woman...until a thought struck her, and she stopped, absently scratching at her side and wincing slightly as it seemed to only make the cuts hurt more.
"But wait! We can't go to the in--the fur thing yet, what about the cake?" Leave it to a kid to remember something like that, and right when they were almost out of sight of the garden. But she knew better than anyone else that the hero always got his award! Or...reward? Whatever it was. Hers was cake, instead of a kiss (though what was so special about those Mirriam didn't know, though it was sort of nice when her Mommy kissed her before bed) or money, like it was in the stories.

Oh, double damn. Leave it to a child to have a terrible memory about everything except what you actually want it to forget. Blasted cake. She should never have promised the little vermin cake. Somehow she was turning all of Mnem's attempts to frighten her off into some kind of harmless child drivel.
Did this little brat share a brain cell with Thalia? Was that it?
"I'll tell you what," Mnem said, trying not to grit her teeth, "I think your health is a little more important. While you let the doctor look you over, I'll make you some delicious cake, and bring it to you so you can eat it while you recover." What did she say she liked? Oh, right. Cheesecake. "Some cheesecake, for my favorite superhero."
Maybe she'd put some bloody sedatives in it, or something that would cause a nice little lapse in memory. Forget visiting Mnem ever happened...Yes, that was right. Unfortunately, just because something was a possible side effect didn't mean it would happen. It was just as likely that anything she put in the cheesecake would just make the bat groggy.
Next time, she was just siccing Monty on her.

Of course, Mirriam took all of Mnem's efforts to get her out of her hair as soon as possible as a sign that the woman was actually very nice. After all, she obviously cared a lot about her health! And, she said she was her favorite superhero! She already had fans, and she hadn't even done anything official yet! This was an awesome day, and the bat giggled happily as she resumed fluttering after the woman. "That would be soooo great! Thank you, Your Highness! You're my favorite superhero too!"
With no inkling at all of the very real danger she had been in (or possibly still was in depending what was put in that cheesecake) Mirriam genuinely liked the woman with the brightly-colored hair, and actually thought her little adventure had been fun. The thought of cheesecake (hopefully with a delicious fruit topping, too!) was enough to keep her mind off the pain and itching of the rather nasty-looking rash that she now had all over. Luckily her wings hadn't come out as bad as they might have and she could still fly, or else the woman might have had to carry her to the infirmary.

Sometimes she forgot that sarcasm was wasted on children, whose brains had all the size and learning capabilty of a mushy pea. And the bat, on top of that, appeared to be more dense than most. She got the bouncing ball of rash-afflicted child to the infirmary and happily dumped her into the capable hands of someone who was not Mnem. She left as fast as she possibly could.
Superhero! Bah. What nonsense. Mirriam clearly had no idea how these bloody things worked. Mnem was not a fellow crimefighter. Mnem was an arch-nemesis. A villain.
She strode purposefully to the kitchen, expression sour, Hair curling and uncurling in irritation. Cooks fled before her. Their fear cheered her mildly.
She made a cheesecake. With delicious apple topping. And if she just happened to add a small untraceable amount of something unpleasant, well, that could always just be a side effect of the briar rash, couldn't it?
Bloody children.
