Mythiril came very slowly back to consciousness, both brain and mouth feeling rather fuzzy. She opened her eyes, expecting to see the walls and blankets of her little cubby in the Warren...so when she instead saw a decidedly unfamiliar room and the face of a BIRD staring down at her...she had quite the shock. Of course, events flooded back to her all at once, then, but she couldn't let herself dwell on the shame. She was too weak right now to risk more bleeding, and the Card...had seemed somewhat nice, if a little weird.
Was she in some sort of Card-dwelling? She vaguely remembered being bundled in a blanket...and not much after that. She rapidly took stock of the room, coming to the conclusion that there was no one around, but mixed in with the smell of Bird was some sort of other...strange...smell that she couldn't place. She wrinkled her nose, but on her next inhale, a new, delicious smell suddenly overwhelmed her other senses. Her eyes lit up and she jerked to a sitting position. Food!
She was ravenous, and before she knew what she was doing, she'd darted forward and began to scarf it down, not even stopping to see what it was. Once she had taken the edge of her hunger, however, she felt the Card's eyes on her, and realized how... improper she'd acted. She flushed deeply under her grey fur, and looked up meekly. "I...thank you for this nourishment," she said, pausing to lap at a bowl of water he'd also brought. "Sorry for my overeagerness, Sir, but it had been a long journey and...and where are we? Is this your Warren?" She looked around again, now eating at a more controlled pace.

Under normal circumstances, Colin would have been absolutely appalled by Mythiril's lack of table manners. She had set on the food like a pack of wild Banders, and it was, truth be told, rather revolting. But somehow...somehow he found himself smiling indulgently. What would normally have made him lose all respect for the Rabbit instead had him feeling a slight burst of affection for the poor little creature. After all, she did very much look as if she needed this energy. He wondered vaguely if this was what it might be like to have children, but then, he could never imagine himself tolerating this sort of behavior from a child, especially not one of his own.
"You're very welcome Miss. And don't worry, it's quite understandable and forgivable," he responded with another smile, settling in a little more on the bed. He was suddenly exhausted from the very long and trying day, but he was going to stay awake until the little Rabbit was ready to go to sleep. Of that, he was sure. After all, he couldn't let her leave at least until the other residents of Felix's house had gone to bed. He still felt very protective and did not want her to be spotted. Besides, early morning must be a better time for travelling than late at night? No one got up very early in Selkie anyhow, right?
"My...what?" Colin blinked in confusion, but he was able to guess from the context what she might be referring to. "No, I live a long way from here, in another Realm entirely. But don't worry, I kept you hidden from the Cards that do live here. They don't know of your existence, at least not on my account, and you can leave safely in the morning." Feeling his eyelids droop, Colin shook his head, forcing himself to stay awake. Not yet!

Myth nodded, still eating at the respectable, controlled pace. She felt better now, much better. An ear perked curiously at his words. He didn't know what a Warren was? How strange Cards truly were! But then, he had said he lived a distance from here...did that perhaps mean they were still in the Selkie Lakes? Myth felt a thrill at this, positive she could find her way back to her Father's Warren from anywhere in the Realm. As long as he had walked here and not flown, but then, he had been walking when she'd met him, hadn't he?
But the good feeling was replaced with dread at his next words. Wait until morning to leave? How long, then, had she been asleep? There was no way she could wait that long to start her journey back! Already the other Leverets would be muttering about her, already the Does would be ready to make demands, and may at any point notice her conspicuous and unexplained absence! But she had to say something, the Card was looking at her, and he wanted her to wait, and he...he looked...very sleepy. Hope flew wild and untamed in her again, and she smiled up at the Bird most sweetly.
"Why, thank you, you are most kind. If only all Cards were like you, we Rabbits may not have to hide so much," Myth said with a voice like honey. Her heart was beating wildly. What if he saw through her flattery? What if he trapped her? What if--no. She had to be brave, she had to get back as soon as she could. She tilted her head, hopping nimbly off the bed and taking her dishes with her, now empty. "Have no worry on my account, Sir, for I shall sleep on the floor." She drew the blanket around herself and smiled, though she was not tired and had no intention of falling asleep. Please, please let this ploy work...

Like all creatures with an ego, Colin responded fairly well to flattery. His guard was down and he was tired, so he suspected no trickery from the small, meek creature that was Mythiril. A smile curved his beak and he flushed a bit in pleasure. "Ah, well, that's nice of you to say...oh, where are you going, you don't need to get off yet..." He blinked, then shrugged, settling in on the bed. His wings busied themselves gathering a nest of blankets, though of course he was only preparing it for when he would sleep, and that wouldn't be soon...not too soon anyway...
"Well, if you're sure." His head began to tilt to the side, his wing to come up to cover it, and he started, frowning and forcing the limb back to its relaxed position. Treacherous body! But then...the Rabbit did look comfortable, there, with the blanket...and it was late enough...and he had to get up early in the morning to see the Rabbit off and to leave for his friend's house...
"Nice to finally meet a Rabbit of noteworthy character," Colin mumbled as his head drooped and his eyes closed and the world went comfortably, wonderfully black...

A strange, hungry quality glittered in Myth's turquoise eyes as she watched Colin, something dark and malicious. His words though...his words made a sharp point of guilt stab through her, and she made a small, unhappy noise. What had she done? Why had she betrayed Colin's trust like that, when all he had shown her was kindness? Her ears drooped, and that familiar, almost friendly by now dizzy feeling of wanting to bleed but not allowing herself to swarmed up. "I'm s-sorry, Sir," she muttered to his unconscious form, trying to ease her conscience. Though really, it's not like she'd drugged him or anything...he fell asleep on his own. Shaking her head, Myth hopped quietly towards the door, and after a few minutes of finagling, managed to get it open (luckily it was paw-friendly, just a little high for her, since she was so small compared to a Card).
Sniffing the air, ears perked forward, every sense on high alert, she poked her head out the door...and froze. Coming up the stairs was a large...spiky...Selkie...thing. Quickly, praying to the White Rabbit that she wouldn't be caught, Myth darted behind a bookshelf, shivering. Luckily, the thing didn't see her, and she continued cautiously...
It was with great relief that she finally burst out into the night air, taking a deep breath before dashing off as fast as she could. Somehow, she instinctively knew where to go, and hopped back in the entrance of her Warren before the first pink tinge of dawn showed in the sky. She just listened to the earful she got from the head Leveret, and went to go quietly bleed out her shame for the events of the day and for being so late. Somewhere in the back of her mind, though, she almost...relished the small adventure she'd had, and the chance to meet a real Card...

Upon waking the next morning, Colin was hardly surprised, though he was a little sad, to see the Rabbit was gone. After all, in the end, Rabbits and Cards were too entirely different to really connect, he thought, though the admission came with great regret. He cleared the dishes and packed his bag, unsurprised to see that he was the only one in the house up, since it -was- still early. The sun had just barely begun to rise over the surface of the lake as he pushed open the door to freedom. But before he could take his first step, a voice stopped him cold.
"Wait! Mr. Colin?"
For a moment, Colin's gut twisted, feeling guilt and annoyance in one, until he realized it was a woman's voice that had spoken. Turning, he saw Felix's mother, still rubbing sleep from her eyes. She very much looked like Felix, though with a slightly more feminine build and without the horns. "Yes, Ma'am?"
"I just...well. Do you need anything, before you get on the road?" Gloria asked, looking slightly distressed, though Colin didn't know why.
"I'm all right, thank you for the offer, though. And thank you for letting me stay the night." Colin turned to leave again, but stopped, and looked back over his shoulder, not feeling regret exactly but...something similar. "And...say goodbye to Felix for me, will you? He's...a good guy." He turned to go, and this time Gloria let him. As soon as he was out of the house, Colin took to the air. He was ready to be -done- with Selkie, ready to get to his friend's house as soon as possible, stay exactly his welcome and no longer, and then...go home and try to forget any of this ever happened. Yeah, right.
