At the yip he hopped back, raising his little hackles momentarily before setting them back down when the tail bopped him playfully. Usually that kind of noise was followed by a bite from Vesper, or tears from his brother but he didn't receive either from the larger canine. In fact it looked like papa was going to play with him! He snapped at the air near the paw that batted at him before dropping his front half to the floor and curling that still wagging tail of his over his back.
He flipped his ears back and flattened them again his skull, a growl rumbling up from his throat as he tried to look like a big bad puppy.
all of Brokat's fur puffed out when the large stranger that was supposed to be their papa made that noise. It caught him completely off guard and even cause him to tremble a bit. His sister moving closer to him was a little comforting, but he wasn't exactly the bravest child.
Tavor couldn't help but chuckle lightly at the antics of his ... hyperactive child. He just looked so silly when he decided it was time to play ... and Toli looked just about as funny.
So what do you think?

Anatolius beamed, hunch down ever so slightly as his tail began to wag heavily. Cas definitely reminded him of himself as a kid and... well, damn... he was cute. He flipped his own ears back for a moment, giving a little wiggle as he abruptly brought his paw up yet again and offered a playful bat that would either lightly knock the canine or would simply land within his vicinity.
...Or Tavor could speak up and distract him from his game.
The older canine tilted his head, giving a little hrm with his paw suspended in midair.
Cas was so going to catch that dangling paw-hand, even Toli knew it though he didn't bother to immediately set it down... He'd just be sure he didn't jump when he felt little puppy teeth on his fingers.
Toli's tail gave a brief but overly excited thump and he grinned widely up at Tavor.
"I love 'em."
He could've almost forgotten that Acheron was upset with him, if only the Torque's blank and terribly distant stare didn't continue to bore into his soul. Slowly he shook it off, refocusing on the group before him once more.
They deserved all his attention and warmth, no angsty brooding would be escaping him in their lovely little presence.
Vesper pressed firmly against Brokat, unsure whether she was attempting to reassure him...or to deflect attention from herself. Slowly, though, she eased up and rested her head lightly over her brother's feathered shoulders. Brokat was more afraid than she was and, hopefully, 'papa' would be distracted by Cas in all his... Cas-ness... and not come attempt to play.
Not that he really seemed all that bad. He was a nice guy, however strange and brightly colored he was.

He froze for a moment, preparing for the paw to come down and get him .... but it paused as it's owner was distracted by momma ... perfect! He wiggled his rump a bit and hopped up, seizing said hand paw in his teeth with another little puppy growl ... and hung on. He wasn't about to lose his 'prey' easily.
Brokat relaxed a bit when his sister rested her head over his shoulders, she didn't seem to concerned with the bright canine, no one did actually .... so he relaxed. He turned his head, eying Toli a bit before continuing and began to groom Vesper's shoulder. being careful with the sharp curve of his beak. He'd definitely rather have Cas burn up all his energy on the seemingly willing play partner he had now then on him .... so he also didn't mind the lack of attention.
His ears remained perked as he waited for the canine's thoughts, and the response he got managed to ease his nerves for the time being, but this was still a bit awkward for him ... and he wasn't entirely certain what to do. He shifted a bit, running purple claw tips through the fur of his arm.
Can I ... get you anything?
He cringed a bit as Cas seized the hand paw ... knowing full and well that those little teeth of his hurt.

Toli managed to to keep from jumping when the nip finally came, though he gave a little laugh as he cringed. Boy those teeth were sharp... Tilting his gaze so that he caught the boy in one big-orange orb, he flashed a wide and knowing grin. "Be careful with how hard you bite, lad, those teeth are mighty sharp." He gave a light tug at his hand, attempting to display that he wanted that appendage back now that it had been captured.
While he waited to see whether or not Cas would return his hand without a true 'fight', Toli glanced back at Tavor and smiled gently. "Not at the moment, I'm content to play with these little guys..." Or well, with Cas. He would've played with all three of them if it didn't seem that Brokat and Vesper weren't exactly the 'playing' types. That or they were simply just that shy. Toli could understand, Vana was dreadfully shy and it was generally easier to allow that sort of Card to come to him first.
Vesper's tail curled a little with pleasure as Brokat began to groom her, the little rat mix's eyes slowly falling shut as she leaned into the attention. Brokat was her favored sibling by far. He was far less obnoxious and playtime with him rarely resulted in more than a couple of scrapes... unlike Cas and his unfortunate habit of burning as well as scraping. Ugh. Lightly she licked her brother back, nuzzling his cheek.
She may be a bit of a brat, but she'd always look out for her Brokat.

When Anatolius declined his offer he finally came off the wall and slipped across the room, dipping down and poking the puppy in the side, in a spot he knew was a nice tickley one and kept going before flopping himself down on the floor near the other two. He knew that Kat was painfully shy and Vesper was more the suspicious type, traits they undoubtedly picked up from him, and he figured his presence might bring them more to life then they were. At least they'd investigated the wolf on their own, definitely more confident then he'd been when he was younger.
Nova wasn't about to let go of the hand, although he did loosen up his bite a bite when he was told to be careful with his teeth, momma told him that all the time, especially when he grabbed his tail. He did instantly let go when Tavor poked him in the side and flopped over with a little laugh, swatting a paw at the rat-eagle, that wasn't fair!
Brokat's little rat ears perked forward when momma started toward them and his olive eyes followed him until he flopped down on the floor near him and his sister. He made an odd little sound in his throat when Vesper returned the affection, the kind that had to be avian, and then licked her forehead in return, his big, bushy tail thumping lightly. He nudged his sister so she knew he was moving, and could also point out that they'd been joined on the floor, and rose up onto all four limbs and headed quickly over to Tavor.
He didn't just snuggle up to the rat mix either, he climbed up onto his back, causing Tavor to wrinkle up his nose every time one of those talons slid, and placed his front paws on the top of his mother's head and kept his hind feet on his shoulders, finding enough courage from the familiar presence to further investigate the strange one. Although his little beak muzzle didn't twitch like his siblings would have, he was scenting the wolf from this position, his tail swaying ever so slightly behind him.

The canine's grin only widened further as he watched Tavor poke the pup, causing him to collapse in a heap of giggling puppy. Adorable. Toli so did love children! When Tavor relented, Toli took up the position and promptly poked the fiery pup a couple more times.
From the corner of his eye he slowly watched Kat climb up onto Tavor's back, leaning a bit closer than he had before. Those two, Kat and Vesper, really were that shy. Poor things. Toli had never really been prone to shyness or wariness for that matter, being social just sort of... came to him. Perhaps it was being raised in the middle of such a large family?
Whatever the case, Toli didn't immediately acknowledge Kat but allowed the boy to continue scenting him while he affectionately poked Cas again.
Vesper kept quite, hunkered down now as she watched the goings on. Kat had left her side to go climb on Mama, and that was fine... except 'Dad' was there too. Slowly, however, the little rat-canine would give in and crawl tentatively to Tavor's side, peeking out from around the rat-eagle in order to watch her siblings with him.

Oh he wasn't expecting the pokes to continue after momma left him, not at all. A surprised little yip left his maw, followed by another little growl as he flailed his paws in the general direction of the pokes, trying to beat them away with big paws and the little claws he had as well. That was just ... so beyond unfair! He continued to flail a little after the pokes had ceased, not realizing they had at first, and then he rolled back over on his belly and readied himself in a rather wiggly manner before he pounced, trying to deliver a nip to the older canine's nose.
Tavor was quite glad that he'd gone through the trouble of fire proofing the little room as he watched Cas and Toli. After all it wasn't like you could just tell a child not to roll around and have fun like his siblings could ... it just wouldn't be fair. Speaking of siblings ... Brokat wasn't exactly light and the rat-eagle wasn't exactly enjoying supporting him with his head so he simply dipped it down and rested it on the floor, pulling a weird squawk like nose of surprise from the full lowlander. He tried to do it as slow as possible, but he'd accidentally surprised to boy anyhow ... oh well.
He twitched his ears a bit as he felt another little body, this one at his side, and flicked his tail to that side, wrapping it loosely around the girl's form. The shyness of the two was definitely his fault ... but they could grow out of it ... right?

Toli was smitten, very smitten.
Nova was terribly adorable and he couldn't help himself from wanting to play with the boy. Even with his utter curiosity for the other two, Nova's persistent pouncing kept him on his toes.
Especially when the boy suddenly flew for his nose. Toli's eyes widened briefly, but he managed to catch him and hold him out of nose biting reach. "Good try, lad!" He chuckled warmly before casting his gaze over to Tavor once more.
Vesper nuzzled into the feeling of her Mama's tail, chittering her teeth a little in pleasure. Tavor was something warm and familiar and safe, she didn't have to worry about getting weird looks from him and he didn't burn her like Cas did... or like the older canine seemed like he might be able to do.
Maybe that's why they liked each other so much, they were both burny-bright colors like fire. Vesper glanced back at herself. She had some of those colors, closer to Cas's shade than Toli's, but they weren't nearly as prominent as either of theirs. She looked more like Kat, and he was easier to deal with by far.
Absently Vesper began to yawn again, finding herself more or less flopping against Tavor rather than watching all the 'excitement'.

The full canine flipped his ears down to the sides of his head and then flopped himself down on the floor in a rather ungraceful manner ... all four limbs spread out. He couldn't quite figure out why no one seemed to like to let him bite them .... it wasn't like he was doing it to be mean ... he was just trying to play. He put his head down between his paws and peered up at Toli, giving him the cutest look he possibly could and then wiggled his wings a bit, sending little licks of flame up and away from them.
In an effort to make himself more comfortable, Tavor carefully lifted his head just enough to cross his arms under his chin to use as a little bit of a pillow whilst the triple breed continued to lounge atop him. He curled his tail more snuggly around Vesper when she didn't protest and peered up for a moment when Kat decided to start preening the fur atop his head.
However, when he felt Toli looking at him his attention shifted and he simply gave him a soft little smile. This was actually a nice evening... considering how it started off ...

Anatolius hadn't stopped smiling since little Nova had started playfully attacking him.
It was nice to be playing with another canine, especially one that seemed to take so much after himself. It was funny how these things happened, personalities lined up in families without the child ever really knowing the parent. Toli was glad, though, glad that the kids had mostly accepted him.
They may not have a 'perfect family', but at least Toli could be there and be responsible for what he'd done.
No regrets. Even if Acheron couldn't... or wouldn't... see it that way. The thought of Acheron made his heart twist, but Toli focused his thoughts away quickly. Nova and Brokat were both being so adorable, and even the stand-offish little Vesper was melting into an undeniably adorable state of sleepy.
Kids were precious.
Vesper yawned again, stretching now as her long tail curled around Tavor's own. Everyone was busy doing their own thing and she really doubted anyone would care if she just went back to sleep. Right?
