After all she'd said to defend Peaches, he still went ahead and continued to badmouth the Jack of Hearts. But maybe since he was being so adamant about this, then there was some truth to what he said? Maybe she should still be wary of the Torquehelm feline...it was definitely something to consider.
The stupid bitch comment came out of nowhere, and it was like a verbal slap in the face. It made her growing hatred for the King of Hearts flare up considerably. However, what he was saying...maybe her choice of words weren't that well thought out. No one ever said she was brilliant when she was angry.
By the time Pale was finished sneering and speaking to her, Cal stood there, practically glued to the floor, in horror of what he had said. All the anger that had been building up was practically gone now. A rash? All over his penis? That didn't sound pleasant at all. And what was this about an Incompatibility? She'd never known about such a thing, until the man before her mentioned it. What did it mean?
"I-I've honestly never heard of this Incompatibility before now, Your Highness. I'm terribly sorry you had a rash in such an...uncomfortable place, for a week because of it. Would you mind explaining this to me? And possibly without that scary look on your face?"

There was a flicker of something in the woman's eyes, and it sent a little thrill through the King's body. He wasn't fully sure of what, exactly, he was seeing, only that it made him feel that much more justified. It might have been revulsion over the discussion of his manhood - Yarrows were uncomfortable with that aspect of half the population, weren't they? That, or he'd genuinely made her realize what affect her actions had unleashed on someone. His own pain was humiliating, terrible, and even thinking about it again was making him tremble ever so slightly.
And she'd never heard of the Incompatibility. He couldn't reasonably be upset by that - after all, Bogs were anything but common in most of the world outside of the Court of Hearts, but he wasn't exactly feeling reasonable. He laughed, the sound short and harsh.
"Of course... And I wouldn't let you experience it firsthand, either, though it would be easy for me to do." His pitch lowered, voice slipping into a silky-soft tone, his sneer relaxing - though his lips were still pulled back from his teeth, a wordless threat. "All I would have to do is sneak some time with my Queen before you, as you did to me. The Bog and the Gardens are both rather... chemically active realms, are they not?" So saying, the man began to walk, slowly circling around the canine. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end.
"Our bodily fluids - sweat, spit, blood, come - all of them share those properties that make us so... unique. When my mother was new here, only a Jack, she brought Bernard samples of Bog gases. When they were mixed, they exploded - quite violently, if rumors are to be believed." He paused for a moment, maintaining a safe distance from the woman, his expression almost thoughtful. Then, he grinned again. "I'm sure that you can put the rest of it together, right...? Xiven doesn't usually sleep with idiots more than once."
((Sorry for the asshole. <3 And the shitty reply. >>; I just felt like I should get something for you. <3333))

Although the King of Hearts before her was quite terrifying, his words and body language continued to make her blood boil. She wasn't stupid, just uneducated about all this, obviously. After all, she never expected to leave her home region at any point during her lifetime. If she hadn't, she would have never encountered this problem. But then, that would mean she wouldn't have met Xiven either, and even thinking such thoughts made her upset.
She quickly shook off the feeling, and brought her thoughts back to the issue at hand. "Thank you for educating me, Your Highness. I'm sure if my parents had known about the Incompatibility, they would've told me about it long ago. But, as they, or I, never expected to leave the Gardens, it wasn't common knowledge. Again, I apologize for your plight, but you didn't have to call me an idiot. If it's not asking too much, I'd like for you to apologize for that. That's not asking too much, is it?"
Her last remark could go one of two ways: really well or really badly. Cal hoped it was the latter. Whether he was a King or not, everyone deserved to be respected. Right?
((OOC: I'm SO SORRY this has taken me this long. And I hope Pale won't be too upset with Cal. XD))

((No worries, dear! <33 And.. I guess we'll see, huh? XDD))
As someone who had spent as much time as he had trying to get things out of people, Apocalypse had gotten quite good at reading emotions. What he saw from Calanthe at this point made his heart beat a little harder - though not for the usual reason. He could feel himself getting more enraged rather than less. She was... upset with him? What the hell gave her the right? She might have been Xiven's lover - but so was he, for the love of the Suits, and she'd done him serious physical harm.
The doctor hadn't known how bad the rash was going to get, and with the pain he had been in, some very strong words had been spoken. At his side, the man's hands clenched into tight fists, relaxed, and then clenched again.
"Perhaps," he said in a soft voice, his eyes unflinching as they focused on the woman's face and held there. In a heartbeat, his grin vanished completely, leaving his face a picture of practiced calm. "And perhaps calling you an idiot would have been out of line, as you're simply ignorant. Of course, I never called you an idiot - I said Xiven wouldn't bed an idiot more than once, and one assumes you've been with her on several occasions... Unless I'm wrong?" There was the flash of teeth, and the man was grinning again, though there was nothing pleasant about it. "Wouldn't that be amusing?"

Cal blushed deeply at Pale's last remark. She and the Queen had been together more than once...but that wouldn't have been so if Xiven didn't like her, right? She really didn't like where this conversation was headed. He was a pompous King of Hearts, and a dangerous one at that. If she crossed the line, there was no telling what he'd do. Especially if his pointy grin was any indication.
But she would stand her ground. Cal was obviously naive to an extent, but it only made her want to learn more. She could do research later in the library to see what else her parents had no way of teaching her back in the Gardens, since they had no way of knowing themselves.
"No, you're not wrong, Your Highness. Xiven and I have been together a few times now. I won't deny that. Why was she going to contradict what he already knew? It would have been pointless, and very stupid to have said otherwise. "Is there anything else you'd like to know about me and the Queen? Or are you done humiliating me for the time being?"
