Colin was a bit confused by Angavar's hesitation to talk about everything, even this, this most important subject to any Villa...well to him at least, and to most of those of his Realm he knew. He smiled instantly, encouragingly at the expected answer to come from the Hawk's beak, though it fell a bit as...he didn't elaborate. Seriously? Talking to this guy was tougher than he ever would have thought possible before. Anyone else of his region was usually happy to talk about at least this one thing...but maybe he needed a bit of extra encouragement?
"Which instrument do you play?" he prompted with a renewed, bright smile, after a long and rather uncomfortable silence. It was too much to endure for long, especially with questions about the scarf still hanging over his head like storm clouds. "Myself, I am a pianist, specializing in concert piano with a few of my own compositions to my name." He hoped that by divulging this, he might encourage the other bird to open up as well.
Arpeggio tilted his head curiously, staring at the extended claw. Then, his blue eyes lit up and he gave a churr of excitement. He had seen his Master do this! He floated forward and reached out his own claw, grasping the other Tove's in a clumsy approximation of a handshake, and then he imitated the little chirp he had made, quite proud of himself.

He was right, he wasn't the easiest to talk to. He did try however to be more talk active, but he had to find the right subject. His eyes lighted up as the other spoke about playing a piano, ignoring the question without realizing "Really?" He muttered, he would have clasped his hands in front of his chest if he had hands that was "I heard it was quite hard to play.." He listened further and grinned lightly "That's wonderful!" He said, grin widening faintly "I am not sure however if I have heard already, but I'll be sure to do that soon." He again went silent.
It was in that silence that he finally noticed the other question of a while ago, his mind shoving it in front of his brain and he carried a small proud smile "I play the harp mostly." He answered. He could talk about the subtle notes one could make with a harp for hours, but he had learned early on that he shouldn't carry it too far as someone that didn't interest himself in it could get bored with it, quick. He searched for another question though and after a while he found it, continuing on what Colin had said "What are the names of those compositions by the way?" He questioned.
Lith blinked slowly as Arpeggio took its claw in his and then chirped back, overjoyed. It seemed to the Tove it had made a new friend. It placed its claw briefly against the other and then darted away and behind Angavar, who looked briefly back at the sudden hyper-like Tove.

Colin didn't even notice his unanswered question at first, because Angavar was exploiting one of his greatest weaknesses without even realizing it: flattery. "I have to admit, it was rather difficult to pick up," the Cardinal said, waving a wing dramatically. "Especially without hands, or paws, so that the only way to hit the keys well enough is with my feet. So you see, I have to be hovering the entire time, and it can get tiring. But with practice, I can do it easily now, with nary a second thought." He grinned, tail feathers wiggling happily.
But as happy as he was when speaking about himself, it was also quite good to hear about the muscial talents of others. He probably would have been one that Angavar could have rambled to with no fear of boring him; hearing about other types of art or music was fascinating to the Cardinal, and it was quite his favorite subject. "The harp? Well that is certainly interesting. Are you aware that the current Queen of Spades also plays that instrument? And quite well, too. I've heard her." His eyes went unfocused for a moment in memory.
"Oh! Well there are a number of them...the most recent is called 'For Raina' and was written for...well, I suppose she is an official noble of the Court of Spades now, too, but when I met her she was a bit young yet. Had her human form from birth. Lovely girl..." He smiled a bit distantly at the memory. "Others you may have heard include 'Villa Sunrise Concerto in C Major' and 'While Bloom the Hollyhocks,' which must be sung with vocal accompaniment. Those are apparently favorites, as I get asked to perform them not infrequently." His chest was puffed out as he said this, and he did so with an air of happiness, obviously proud of his accomplishments.
Arpeggio let out an excited trill, wiggling in the air and then following after Lith, darting towards his hiding spot and then back, eager to play with his new friend.

He nodded his head "It sounds.. interesting." He had to say. He had to smile at the other's enthusiasm and kept looking at him with a half-interested/distracted look. He let out a small chuckle "I wouldn't be able to do that at all.." He admits, looking a bit embarrassed.
He nodded his head "I assume you would be correct." He sounded a bit more distracted than before, although he was going to say something that again could lead to annoying questions if he didn't watch himself "It had been years since I visited the courts." He looked away, moving his wing slightly as if brushing his own words away.
His head tilted to the side and his eyes shone slightly as he recognized a name. He had heard it somewhere, but he wasn't too sure anymore. It could also be called otherwise, a subtle difference, but the music would be a lot different. He didn't voice himself however on that matter, less he would walk against a wall "I would lie if I didn't admit I feel a bit of envy." He spoke, honestly clearly shining from him once more "I, myself would love to play for someone else. Although on the other hand it is still so very personal." He let out a small sigh, a chuckle escaping him afterward.
The Tove let out a small screech as it was discovered, darting away again. It stopped briefly in front of Colin and then darted behind him, looking from behind said card's shoulder, trying to spot the other Tove.

"Well, I'm sure you could with enough practice. I mean, you play the harp and that must be hard enough without paws or hands too," Coin said, though he was practically glowing with the praise. He didn't even register how distracted the bird was being right then, a large grin on his beak and his head held high. Such a different picture from the distracted, disgruntled bird that had been sitting on this same ledge before Angavar had come.
He thought he noticed a shot of recognition in the Hawk's eyes, though because the other didn't mention it, he didn't feel like he could either. Which was a pity, because he would have loved to casually hear what another Villa he'd never met (and who, presumably, was not a professional critic or another composer) thought of some of his work. Though the ego-padding from the next statement was enough to make up for it. "Well, perhaps someday you will get that chance?" he offered, smiling. "After all, the concert halls are always looking for new talent, especially for rarer instruments." One of the few problems with being a piano player...you had to be really good to get noticed, since almost every Villa who had been taught in a good school learned at least basic piano, and many of them had it as their central area of study. Colin had been noticed. He thought that spoke for itself pretty darn well. "And it still feels rather personal, even while on stage, well as long as you have a well-mannered audience." Which was something you could count on in the Villa, but not necessarily everywhere.
His eyebrow rose at the antics of the Toves, but he supposed they were mostly harmless. Arpeggio flew past his master's face, trilling joyfully. It was a while since he'd had this much fun, and he was glad his mater was all right with him still interacting with others of his own kind.

He nodded his head in agreement, it really Was hard "You wouldn't believe." He spoke, hints of irony in his voice "Or maybe you do.." His voice was a slight whisper, unheard as he forced another small smile, it looked surprisingly real as he did rather enjoy this... 'situation'. He even found some amusement at the new pose the bird had struck, he looked different in a -dare he say it- good way.
He nearly noted the disappointment, but shrugged it off quickly "Who knows." He spoke, his gaze drifting to the skies as he let out a small sigh "That would be rather awesome." He looked at him. He also realized that nearly everyone played the piano and he had to applaud him silently for getting so far. He had heard piano-players here and there, but those where more for breaking the eardrum than stroke it gently as one relaxed with a good glass of wine or other beverage that people could enjoy in a fancy place. He had to laugh; almost sounding surprised, the other spoke true words "I have to agree." He said "Our realm knows what it is like." He shifted himself once more to be comfortable, looking at the Toves himself as they played around, darting around himself and Colin, chirping and being noisy in general as they played.
The Tove was really enjoying itself, it had a new playmate and its owner was speaking with someone of his own realm, its small world looked wonderful right now.

Colin grinned at Angavar in a knowing sort of way, eyes shining. "Oh, I believe, my friend. If I may be so bold as to conjecture it, you and I have not had such different experiences after all with our musical endeavors." Except for the fact you're less successful, and don't have the creativity to write your own compositions, he thought, but had the good manners to not say this egotistical thought aloud. One claw tapped absently on the rock as Colin watched the clouds move over the valley out of the corner of his eye.
"Well, all it takes is a bit of luck, a bit of skill, and a bit of connection to those who arrange that sort of thing," Colin said, hoping to encourage the bird. Though truth be told, how much skill the hawk had he couldn't be sure. After all, he thought of how talons, especially those of a raptor, would affect the delicate strings of a harp, and barely kept the wince at bay. That wouldn't be so very good. Seeing a break in the conversation, Colin's eyes again fell uneasily to the Selkie Ace scarf, and then quickly away, looking back out over the view beyond them. He needed a new topic of conversation, it would seem... "So are you living here in Villa, or someplace in the Capital?" As good a start as any.
Arpeggio was quite happy as well, still chasing the other Tove merrily and with much energy around the area. He was glad his Master actually seemed happier than he had in a little while.

He nodded his head lightly "So it seems." In a stroke of luck he seemed to catch the other's thoughts and gave a rueful smile "I didn't make any music yet though." He said "Maybe I should get started on it..." He fell back in his memories for a bit and then cocked his head.
He gave a short laugh "Indeed." He agreed once more "But if you haven't such connections you're kept stuck..." He bowed his head, as if sad, although he was just thinking. He really didn't know someone that could help him there, maybe the other, but that would be rude to ask, after all. They didn't know each other for more than a day yet and it wouldn't be likely that they would meet each other again, less they talk. Although maybe, he did want to keep talking to the other. He was slowly relaxing and was prone to slipping out more than he otherwise would do.
He looked up and blinked "I live around." He said, mentioning to the rest of the realms "I'm rather daring with coming here." A bitter look crossed briefly over his features "If my.... father would discover it I wouldn't have seen the end of it yet.." The last was said more in a whisper again, but loud enough for the other to hear if he did his best "But alas, where do you live?" He questioned, noticing Colin's eyes once more on the scarf around his neck and he nearly again tugged on it, uncomfortable; seeing it as a barrier between the two of them for having a -normal- conversation, although they had a good one going now already.
The Tove squeaked in an odd way as it was nearly caught and dived lightly, sticking its tongue out once more in that slight playful mood.

Colin's eyes flashed with surprise when Angavar almost seemed to read his thoughts. But, no, that was silly...it was just a coincidence; it wasn't uncommon for two like-minded people discussing the same subject to come to similar conclusions, was it now? He smiled to cover the flicker of shock. "You never know where your talents may lie until you make the attempt," he said bracingly. "After all, not everyone does have the head for making their own compositions, but there's no shame in that. After all, some of the most famous of musicians never write their own pieces, but they can play all the classics in such a way as to move an audience to tears." Hopefully those words would make up for the errant, vain thought he'd briefly entertained before.
Colin frowned at this, and nodded...then shook his head. "Well, actually...some concert halls have a 'free night' where they allow anyone to play (well, anyone of Villa heritage). All you must do is show up a few days previously to sign up, and you'll be able to play. Now the upside of this is there are -always- talent seekers in the audience, so if they like your performance, then you may very well get approached after the show and get an offer." He'd heard of several aquaintences that got their start that way, though Colin was lucky enough to have some rather famous relatives. Though he almost envied those who were unknown until they made a name for themselves...at least they knew that they could get by under their own merits! That was, above all, what Colin wanted...to become famous apart from his sister and his grandfather and his uncle and...yes, he did have a number of famous relatives.
"Oh?" Concern showed on the Cardinal's face. "So you have...family troubles, then?" That might explain why the Hawk was so secretive. Even now, he had given the vaguest answer possible to the simple question of where he lived. "Anyway, I'm terribly sorry, I don't mean to pry. At the moment, I live very near here, actually. About five minutes fly away, in the Villa of course." He stood up, and leaned over the edge a bit, pointing up and to their left, in the direction he would fly to get home. Of course, how much longer would that be home? Ah, what a depressing thought...
With an answering 'mrrr' sound, the purple-and-blue tove stuck his tongue out in return, rolling over in the air before darting towards his brethren once more.

He chuckled lightly, his mind going in another direction finally "Again you speak true." He replied, getting the faint strains of acting 'normal' already. He pushed it forcefully back and kept his attention on the other "Hmm.." He murmured, his eyes narrowing a little in thought "Tears of happiness or horror?" He made a faint attempt at horror. Oh well, there was always a start for something. He raised his head, looking at the other once more, trying to gouge his reaction. The errant thought of getting lessons to develop social skills again flashed across his mind, if there was something like that anyway.
A 'free night'? How... delightful interesting. He would have to check this out someday very soon. A rather frightening smile curled the corners of his mouth and he bowed his head "I will be sure to check it out soon." He said, voice carrying neutral tones as if he wasn't really following anymore. He blinked slowly "Talent seekers?" He didn't know if he really wanted to be -noticed- on one side, it would be wonderful and his family, or was once his family, would be amazed. On the other side, the recognition everywhere would haunt him everywhere he would go, especially in the Villa en Mirr region.
He would do it, someday. He really wanted to make his family regret doing the things. He was spiteful against them, yet they didn't anything -too- bad. They only left him behind, left him abandoned. He raised his head as the other asked him that question, a thin smile curled his mouth again "You can... say that." He said lowly, trying to get his reactions back in check. His violent behavior had been suppressed for a while now. He shrugged his shoulders lightly "No problem. I can understand curiosity.. if it's that." He seemed to hesitate again if it was the correct choice of words. He really found that he would have bitten his lip if he could. He looked as Colin pointed out his house and he could gather up a small smile "Nice, I hoped if I could get a house here somewhere." He then shrugged "Not having too much luck however." He chuckled again.
The Tove squeaked and skidded away, turning lazily a few times.
