It had only been about a week since Seena had been traded to this new Warren, away from her Father and the life she'd always known. Gone were the private bathing pools from the natural spring, the lush water gardens, the waterfall concealing the secret entrance to the Warren, the dirt walls that were always decorated with the flowers growing right from them. Gone were her Father Jack and Mother Doe. Good fricking riddance. Seena was tired of that place. Tired of how the only people intelligent enough to carry on a decent conversation looked down their twitchy little noses at her. How all the Leverets looked at her like she was crazy every time she attempted to speak of something interesting she'd read lately. No, they DIDN'T care where the leaves had originally been grown or developed, or what Rabbit poets had made mention of them. They just wanted to serve her tea and leave the room in silence. All she wanted was to be accepted for what she was. A Doe who actually cared about more than looking beautiful, falling in love with a Jack, and having babies. Not that those weren't nice things, but they were certainly not all that she aspired to. She wanted a Jack who would appreciate her as a companion. And in punishment for actually hoping her Father would take these wishes into consideration...she was now with a Lowlander. Well she'd show Father. She'd show them all! She would become more than just a pretty face to her new Jack. At the moment, though, things were pretty busy in the Warren. So she sat in her newly aquired room and sat on her bed, withdrawing from her bag one of her most prized possesions: a book that she had managed to sneak in with her belongings when Father wasn't paying attention. Smiling, Seena opened it to the spot she'd marked. ((ooc: sorry it's so long. XD))

And oh, what a pleasant surprise this doe would have in her new jack! They'd only briefly seen each other most likely during the trading process, but he was quite the stand-up fellow for all that a bit of his Rot was visible in his proud ears..... ear. He held himself well, and the light upward turn of his lips was a natural expression rather than some nervous or forced smile. How bad could he be? Well- now was the time to find out, wasn't it? Once the lovely little selkie was settled comfortably upon the sheets and had begun to absorb herself in the book, she'd like as not startle or glance up at the light rap of knuckles. It might have been odd to her, hearing the sound echo off stone rather than earth or wood, but that was the way of this place, wasn't it? As much as the place could seem cold or hostile, great pains had been taken to have her room prepared with soft rugs and plush blankets, even tapestries hung upon the walls to lessen the oppressive feel some found when surrounded by stone. Back to what was important, though.... Rhodney was here, her new Jack. And while certainly he was keenly aware of just how lovely a creature she was, he wasn't staring at her as though she were a piece of particularly tender meat. He'll even be so polite as to remain within the doorway, grasping the cap from his head in a show of respect. "I thought I might be so bold as to come and meet you properly. I hope you do not think me uncouth for waiting so long to greet you, but I supposed you might want time to become accustomed to the room and your help." His daughters were perfect in his eyes, but how well the lowlander knew that even a bit of the characteristic Rot that haunted his sort could upset those of a delicate nature. "Ah- you brought a book with you. Are you able to read, or is it pictures?" Odd if the former, though the tone used is hardly disapproving. At worst he's leaned in a bit as though it might earn him a glance at the cover.

Before Seena could really absorb herself into the reading, she heard the gentle rap on knuckles on the door. Her large lopped ears perked forward, and she swiftly turned her head, wondering who it was. As she saw her Jack, in all his brown and green...and rotting...glory, she almost shoved the book under the covers...but no. No hiding who she truly was. If he didn't like it...well, he'd just trade her again, and that would be that. She...WAS a bit surprised that he had knocked, though. Maybe it was a good sign?
"Of course, Sir," she said, greeting him with a cautious smile. "I appreciate that." Despite all her knowledge and spirit, the Doe suddenly felt a flutter of anxiety, of uncertainty. Would she be accepted despite her oddities? She wasn't sure how he'd want to be addressed, either, so she went with the safest route, figuring he'd correct her if he didn't like it. She tried to keep her eyes from straying to his ears, though really, the rot wasn't affecting her as much as she'd thought it would. It helped that she had read about Lowlanders before, and knew they weren't...contagious. Though she found herself selfishly hoping that if she had any children by him, they would be pure Selkies...but it was way too early to think about that!
She gave him a cautious look at the question, but she replied immediately and confidently, if her expression was a bit guarded. "I can read, Sir, and have since I was but a young one. I find it's...fun to indulge in academic pursuits, and to learn about places and things I will likely never get a chance to experience first hand." She shrugged slightly. It was just a fact of life that it wasn't safe for Rabbits, least of all Does, to travel much. "Like, for example...the odd social structure of those enigmas of the civilized world..." She lifted the book a bit so Rhodney could see that it was about Card politics...Courts, Ranks, Suits, and so on. It seemed to have been written by a Rabbit. Probably one of those brave Leverets who ventured into Card society every so often. She nearly held her breath, waiting for the Jack's reaction...this was the moment of truth.

As deep cerulean eyes met his own- Rhodney was truly struck by the beauty of the girl. Pure, clean color... attractive rippling markings that accented the curve of her body. Lop ears were a bit of a rare trait too, and the Jack was no more immune to the allure of them than any other. The mane... the tufts of silken fur... it was all the parts to create an amazing whole! Even the gold rings she wore attractively accented her natural beauty, leaving the lowlander struck with her.
"An academic doe?" he'll echo to her admitted hobby, striding into the room and approaching her perch upon the bed. "Odd, perhaps... but I am not so unsure of myself as to see intelligence as a threat to my authority. If you wish more reading material, you may ask either of my daughters to fetch you something from my sitting room. I could care less for the culture of Cards myself- but if it fascinates you I'm sure it's no more harmful that the fool romance novels that some does indulge in."
Doing so slowly enough to give her a chance to shift aside should she find discomfort in her Jack, he'll look to seat himself on the edge of the bed as well. "Have you been comfortable? Properly fed? I know that what you ate in your father's warren was very different from what we have here, and I wouldn't have you feeling sick." Perhaps he was a bit business-like seeing how often he would be visiting her in the near future, but seeing as she'd been a trade from the warren of her birth he knew well and good that she'd be untouched. No fear of her getting the crazies if he took some time before diving into the uh... meat and potatoes... of their relationship.

One ear perked cautiously forward as her Jack walked into the room. He was...admiring her, she could tell, and she had to force herself to stay still, to not...preen or something equally as embarrassing. After all, that wouldn't help the respect she was trying to foster in this relationship...she nodded bravely at him, feeling herself relax as he didn't condemn her hobby in the least. A wry smile made its way onto her face. She'd allowed herself the occasional romance novel, but they were normally fairly boring, given that they were written by Does, for Does, most of which had very little skill or knowledge of language. The very-glorified war stories written by Jacks with plenty of free time were far more interesting. Her eyes lit up at the prospect of being offered actual free access to the Jack's collection.
"Thank you very much, Sir, I appreciate that," she replied as she let the book fall flat again, only slightly dissapointed that he wasn't interested in this particular subject. But she was sure they'd find something interesting and suitably important to discuss, and the thought made her tail give a small wag. She only moved enough to give Rhodney room on the bed next to her, intentionally letting her leg brush against him as he sat. She was determined to be a good Doe, in all ways.
"Yes, thank you," she said again, smiling. "The room is lovely, and I researched something of Sorgaire local dishes before I came, so I knew what to expect." She had no reason to complain...she'd been treated well, and given space to adjust, and now her Jack seemed open to the idea of her continued reading. Everything was going well. She may have a tendency to be a bit blunt at times, but she'd been taught what was 'proper' same as any other young Doe.
