Kazifel was not impressed by the charming grin. He simply gave the man a blank look. He glanced to the heron biped. This was an interesting situation to say the least. "Yes. My name is Kazifel. And yes, I have some tools in my workshop, but I'm not going to let you use something of mine when I barely know who you are and what your intentions are."
He pointed to the couch. "Sit down, we talk, then I might not kick you out." He was going to be terribly blunt about all of this. He almost was crushed by a tree, his hand had almost been squeezed off, his son was hurt, and it was a huge mess. Everything would be fine, but damn, it could have been a horrible disaster. Loreta didn't argue with the man. She simply walked over to the couch and sat down without protest. She gave Hatter a look before crossing her legs and trying her hardest to look comfortable. A little white form peer around the corner of the door. Rosemary's ears perked when she saw the brightly colored stranger, her tail wagged behind her as she suddenly burst out from her hiding place. Before Kazifel had time to react she was hopping up and down in front of the stranger. "Hey! Mister! Are you a Corvie sorta like my Daddy?" She asked. The little girl had half a mind to tackle the large human figure. The man made an annoyed sound. As he sat down in the chair. He would have reprimanded Rosemary but he didn't have the will to at the very moment.

Femi came back downstairs after grabbing something from the icebox for Alphonse to roll around in his mouth and suck on, only to see one of her daughters almost bouncing in front of the strange people. Six year old Rosemary was harder to deal with than five year old Rosemary, who had been harder to deal with than four and three year old Rosemary, though nothing had yet managed to top two year old Rosemary. As it was, the fur on her tail bristled in distress, half at just having the people in her home and half because of her daughter's proximity. She stalked over and picked up the girl, not looking at the human, and then went to sit next to Kazifel. She didn't care how much the little wolf-squirrel squirmed. The girl was staying in her lap. Thyme peeked her head around the doorway, having heard her sister exclaiming about something after she'd left their room, and now she was curious. When she saw Rose sitting in their mother's lap, she decided to stay out of sight and just watched.

"Of course, of course! I wouldn't let a stranger touch my tools either." Hatter nodded solemnly and was about to turn and sit as directed when, to his pleasant surprise, the little wolf-squirrel burst into the room with a chatter of excited conversation.
The Joker's expression twisted into one of pure pleasure. "O! Hello! Yes, I'm a Corvie!" He beamed cheerfully, abruptly distracted from the doll maker. ADD was a beautiful thing. "I'm Hatter, and -- oh...er..." The Joker got no further than that, before Femi swept in and captured her daughter once more. "Oh, uhm. Okay."
Slowly he sat back and settled onto the couch, blinking in confusion. He really should...have expected that. The Wood wasn't known for it's friendliness, really. Back to business then!
Sitting close to Loreta, he set Doorie down in his lap and began to stroke her prone form as he spoke. "So, Kazifel, what can I clarify you? My intentions are honest, I'll tell you anything you'd like to know."

Kazifel sighed at the display unfolding in front of him. He sat down a bit further down in his seat from Femi. He knew that Rosemary would eventually wiggled her way free or Femi would have to storm out of the room with the bundle of fur. At least she wasn't as terrible as she was when she was two. "Why would you bother to come all of this way to find out about my sister's research? You seem... rather skilled at what you do." He pointed to the damaged Doorie briefly. Rosemary was doing her best to wiggle out of her mother's grip. She refused to sit still no matter what, and she wouldn't admit defeat. "Mom! I don't want to sit in your lap! I want to talk to the nice man in pretty colors when Daddy's done deciding if he's safe or not! Anyway! Daddy wouldn't bring someone dangerous in the house!" It was Rosemary's logic that anyone in the house was free game to interrogate. She wanted to know more about the region of Corvistowne. Dad couldn't tell her everything after all. Loreta watched in mild amusement. Hopefully she would never have a child that bad. And at least... the girl hadn't really taken notice to her. Of course, the piece and quiet didn't last very long. "Are you a Corvie too?" said a rather small voice from behind the heron. She turned around wide eyed to spot a rather odd looking Corvistowne squirrel... with fairy wings. How very odd. "No kid. I'm form Torquehelm."He gave her a slightly disappointed look from his perch on top of the sofa. "Oh... well I carry acid in this vile around my neck."Loreta wasn't sure how to take that. She didn't have much time to recover when another child walked in. How many did they have? This one looked terribly shocked when she spotted the strangers in the room. She was holding a small doll in her paws--a biped. Sage squeaked before hurrying over to her father's side. Mother was busy with Rosemary so Daddy could handle her. She slipped up next to him with a worried expression. Kazifel sighed. This wasn't how he planned it.

If Femi had been a canine like her husband, she would have outright growled at their daughter. As it was, she refrained from chittering and hugged the girl to her stomach as tightly as she could. "If you don't stop acting like this, I'm taking you upstairs and sitting on you to make sure you stay away from these people," she hissed quietly, trying not to get kicked in the girl's squirming and flailing. "Then you won't even be able to see them."
And then Parsley turned up and started talking to the ugly bird with the rotting leg. With her arms full of squirming child, there was no way for the squirrel to tend to the others as well. She bristled, her tail going even larger than it was normally, which certainly said something. At least Sage was a sensible child and went over to sit by her father.
Was that Thyme peeking around the corner as well? Trying not to show too much distress in front of these Outsiders, she locked eyes with the young Highlander and jerked her head down sharply.
The wolf chose to take that as a 'come' and slunk over to the couch where her mother sat, giving her sister a confused look as she hopped up. "Mommy, why are there strangers in the house?" she asked with eyes a little wider than they would normally be. She'd never seen someone with a rotting leg before. It smelled bad to her sensitive canine nose. Eww...

Hatter's head was going to explode. There were children everywhere, and they were cute and he wanted to say Hi. Of course, these were also typical Tugley parents and they'd both probably prefer to skin him alive than let the kids get close enough to say 'Hi' again.
Ah well.
"Well, there's always room for improvement in any trade." He shrugged his shoulders and stroked Doorie again, desperately wishing he could turn her back on. There was going to be an awfully unpleasant distraction. "Nevertheless, my skill with animation...only goes so far. I would like to make a sentient doll. Doorie only has a personality because I programmed her to have one, not because she's developed one of her own. I was hoping something in your sister's research could help me figure out what I'm lacking."
Hatter didn't really think much of the distance traveled to get here. This place was fascinating, he enjoyed coming. Even if the natives didn't much appreciate his wandering about without a disguise. Ah well, whatever.
As he spoke, he kept one eye ever focused on Loreta and the children around her. They seemed terribly fascinated by her and while Hatter thought it was cute, he couldn't guarantee that Lore would agree.

"My sister was trying to find a way to bring her creations to life so they would have a unique personality and life all their own. She got terribly close before her research shifted. She never got to put her research into actual use." He brushed Sage on the head when she went to hug him. It was reassurance to some degree, but focusing on too many things at once was difficult for even him. Hopefully she would get the idea that Hatter was at least someone all right. "I imagine you have enough magical skill and technical skill to put something like that together, but you should probably be careful. A lot of my sister's experiments backfired."
Loreta twitched as the fairy squirrel closer. He glanced at his mother for a moment before deciding that his perch on the sofa was going to be good enough. "Why do you have a rotting leg Miss?"
"It was a terrible accident and now I can't get it off." And she didn't want to run the risk of taking a hack saw to her leg. Not yet anyway. She shifted uncomfortably under the gaze of the child. This whole entire situation made absolutely no sense.
Rosemary continued to flail. She wasn't going to let her mother get the best of her. Maybe once she was upstairs she could teleport like she did that one time? Of course she ended up inside something but... that was beyond the point! "It's not fair!" she whimpered as she wiggled in her mothers grasp and proceeded to lick her with the help of her awkwardly long tongue.
Sage meanwhile was watching the brightly colored man intently as she leaned against her father. She wanted to sit in his lap but he was busy talking, so this would be good enough. Plus, the man in the bright colors was sort of pretty. The wolf squirrel glanced down at the doll in her hands and used her jack ability to change it into a miniversion of Hatter. Once Mommy left with Rosemary (at least it seemed like it was going to go that way) she would give the doll to the man, hopefully.

Femi bit the inside of her cheek to keep herself from saying something she didn't mean. Well, she would have meant it, but would have felt sorry about saying it later. An armful of squirming, writhing, kicking, flailing six-year-old was a horrible thing. That wasn't even adding the strange, nasty people in her house, or the fact that her son was upstairs crying because something hurt his mouth. Having all of her children swarm down and converge upon these Outsiders made it even worse.
Still, Rosemary would have to be her priority. Sage would stay by her father, Thyme would probably stay on the couch, and Parsley... well, she would just have to trust Kazifel to grab him if he did anything. The Tulgey wolf-squirrel she knew would do things she didn't want done. Thus, they were going upstairs.
Her arms squeezed in a vice-like grip as she stood and mumbled something towards her husband, then grunted against an inadvertent kick to the gut and carried the child upstairs despite any protests or wailing. She just couldn't hold on tight enough for long enough downstairs. She would need the added help of a room alone to keep the girl at bay.
Thyme watched all of this with wide eyes and scooted closer to her father. What... was going on?

Even as Hatter listened intently to Kazifel, the Joker kept an ear and an eye open for the surrounding conversations. Loreta seemed to be doing well enough and only one child had taken the courage to approach her, so at least she wasn't being swarmed yet. The little wolf-squirrel that had called herself Rosemary was still struggling and throwing a fit so intently that her mother simply hefted up and left the room with the mass of flailing six year old.
Oh man, were children really that much of a handful? The prospect was vaguely unnerving.
Hatter briefly noted the doll changing in the young biped's hands but was too focused on what Kazifel was saying to really take in details. "Backfired? How so?" He leaned forward a little, keen with curiousity. At very least this proved his pursuits were possible. Kazifel's sister had gotten close, closer than Hatter had so far, but he wasn't too far off.
