Parzifal stared at the script on the page, wondering who had written it. And why. "Oh, it worked. I'm just not quite sure..." He trailed off and nodded absently as Harold took his leave.
What did that mean? The skin of a dead general? He could think of several who had died during the war, though there were a few far more significant names than others. There was Geremaine of the Spades Court, and Lythero of the Tulgey, and... well, probably not Yvani, she didn't have much skin by the end if the accounts were correct. Hmm. And 'the book of a Queen' was especially ambiguous. There were a large amount of high-ranking Cards involved in the war and many Queens who could have left behind a book. One of the Tulgeys? A Court Queen? Someone else?
So many questions. Part of him was frustrated, but another part was thrilled.
He glanced over to the pages that Harold had written down for them to take away and stood, peering over the notes to see what was on them. Was it legible? Did it have anything to do with the oddly fascinating clue he had just uncovered?

Harold was quite thoroughly examining a book when suddenly someone touched him. He yelped in surprise, nearly dropping the precious book he was holding.
"I didn't mean to shock you," said the rather cheerful looking canine Esterberry. "However I was told to come and inform you that your time is up."
Harold gave the woman a rather defeated look. One that read that he had barely accomplished what he intended to. However they had sent a Diamond. A King. The joys of intimidation. Harold cleared his throat before turning to Parzifel. "Do you need 20 more minutes to copy down you notes or are we good?"
The escort looked a little put out. Now meant now. However it was an Esterberry, and from the tiny bit of a number peaking out of Harold's vest he was a red. Twenty minutes wasn't that bad of a time extension even if they had been in their for two or so hours. The cat wasn't particularly clear. "If you need the time... I suppose I'll come back in twenty minutes. However I won't give you another extension."

Parzifal's head jerked up when he heard the human yelp, eyes wide until he realized what was going on. Part of him relaxed while another part tensed up. Already? Well, yes, they'd been in the restricted archives for a while... but... damn it. These were exactly the sorts of books he needed to be looking through. Sometimes regional bias just made him want to beat things. He had lived in the Tulgey for quite long enough to get a feel for it.
Charm was charm, whether they were one of his suit or not. "Thank you so much," he said with a look of utter relief and appreciation. It was the best imitation of a stressed out university student that he could manage, having never actually been a student in any formal institution. "Twenty minutes. I understand. You're an absolute saint."
Appropriately, he started copying down notes as quickly as his writing utensil could move. The bit of book he'd had to rub was discreetly tucked beneath one forearm. He would be done in precisely twenty minutes, and not a second before.

Harold didn't have the same good fortune. He watched as the person left. He deflated slightly as he looked down at the book. He would just have to skim through it and jot down a few notes. It might actually lead him to someone or something who could comprehend his situation.
Probably not.
The attendant however, did not return in twenty minutes. In fact, they had returned even after forty minutes. Harold was more than a little confused as he scribbled down the last of his notes. He glanced up at Parzi, who probably could have used the time to look at a few other books on the pile that weren't written in Esterberry.
"I think something may have happened...." Harold remarked dryly.
Suddenly there was a voice that called out. Harold jumped, though it was possible that Parzifel would recognize that it belonged to a fairy squirrel. "Hey Parzi? Are you in here?"

If extra time was offered, extra time was used. Parzifal skimmed through the books near at hand, those in languages legible to him. There were some fascinating tidbits that he hadn't known and would have loved to sit down and read in depth, but he would probably never have the opportunity. It was disheartening, to put it mildly, but he had to focus right now. They were here for a very generally specific pool of knowledge.
He smirked at Harold's comment and was about to reply when a voice brought him up short. That was... what?
"Parsley?" he asked the nothingness, confused. Unless someone was for some insane reason mimicking the voice of his housemate, there was a Corvie squirrel in this Esterberry library. More specifically, in the restricted section. "What... are you actually here somewhere? Where are you?" He closed the book in his hands and grabbed up his notes, looking around uncertainly.

"Ha! I knew it!" Parsley said as his foot steps came closer. After a few moments the fairy squirrel rounded the corner, a lantern balanced on his back.
Harold looked rather surprised to find a Corvie in an Esterberry library alone. Where the attendants asleep? He remained silent however as he put a few of the books on the shelf. There was no point in getting involved when he had found something interesting of his own to research.
The squirrel glanced at the Esterberry with a curious expression. He shrugged it off and turned to his friend, "You're not busy are you? I happened to get all of my research done and I wanted to find you before wandering off again. I figured you'd be in here after I overheard someone at the front desk talking about a mixed region matching your description."

Not someone Parzi expected to see in this library, especially not in section he'd had to charm and pretty much lie his way into. Student indeed.
"You... what? How did you get back here? They seemed like they were guarding it like overly zealous hawks." Looking bemused, the human tucked his notes into the small pack he'd brought and regretfully put one of the books back on the shelf. Hiding the shame of his rubbings. Eheh... no one needed to know that he practically defiled a rare text. In an Esterberry library. Under false pretense.
"But yes, you've found me. And they'll probably be in here without too much delay. I don't know how you got back here, but if they ask, I'm a student. They probably won't ask." He looked worried regardless. The squirrel's appearance had derailed his concentration on the research at hand and he looked at Harold for direction. Cues. Something. "Are we... done here?"

"Yeah well if they do come by, I'm a student and a girl who is studying at the worst college in Esterberry." The fairy squirrel grinned. "I just wanted to look at the manuscripts they had on a few mechanical creations but they kept them under lock and key."
Harold had remained silent, and rather amused at the fairy squirrel's statement. That was a good way to convince some Esterberries he supposed. Some Esterberries had a rather healthy respect for the region of Corvistowne rather than blinding hatred. Personally he was always on the fence when it came to judging regions as a whole.
When he was finally spoken to he nearly jumped. "I suppose we are. It would probably be best if we all slipped out and parted ways before they come searching for us. I've found the bit of information that I need." He slipped the book back on the shelf. He figured there would be foots steps any moment now.

Staring at his friend for a moment, Parzi eventually nodded. "Of course you are," he agreed with a solemn tone and expression. "I always suspected. Don't worry - your secret is safe with me."
Unable to hold that for much longer, he turned back to Harold and felt suddenly jittery. They'd been in here for a while now, and they'd acquired another member to their little group. He didn't imagine that any librarian in these over-protective buildings would take too kindly to that sort of suspicious behavior. Time to leave.
"That's a good idea. Out the way we came, I suppose, since I didn't see another exit..." He made his way towards the exit of the restricted section as quickly as he could without 'hustling'. The last thing anyone needed to see was him 'running' away from the books. Oy.
Hopefully that little rubbing experiment wouldn't be found until looooong after they'd left. Preferably measured in years.
