Under her careful washing, it wasn't long before the fruit's flesh went refreshingly cool and the skin felt smooth. Once both peaches had been washed off and Kaiesha felt satisfied, she returned the other fruit to her new-found friend and settled in to eat her own. "There's a river over on the other side..." she said thoughtfully. "I think almost all of the water comes from there. Have you never seen a lake before, though?" She tilted her head to the side slightly, curious. After all, she'd never seen a waterfall, so she couldn't quite imagine what Mirriam was talking about.
Then she bit into the peach, savoring the taste as the sweet juice filled her beak. She chirbled happily, settling in and holding the fruit as a predator might clutch their prey, digging in eagerly. For once, she didn't really care if she made a mess of her feathers, not when the water was so close by.
After a particularly juicy bite, the sparrow hybrid returned her attention to the young bat. "So you're gonna live here now, huh? Do you wanna be a noble? You know, when you grow up enough for it. Sometimes I think about doing it, but... I really don't know yet." What Kaiesha was really wondering was about why Mirriam had arrived with that strange bird-man. It didn't seem like they were related, which must have meant that there was some other reason for their travelling together.

Mirriam hovered anxiously, eyes shining with excitement, as she watched Kaiesha wash the peaches. She somehow refrained from making comments and asking how much longer it was going to take...it seemed like the manner lessons from her guardian were helping after all. She squeaked happily when the fruit was passed to her, alighting on a nearby bench, but hanging upside down from the top of it, grasping the fruit in her wing claws.
"Oh, I've seen plenty of lakes, but usually the water flows down from above, and its really loud and pretty, and it sends up misty drops of water that sparkle on your fur," she said, eyes going a bit distant in the memories. "The water's always really cold too, and sometimes there's caves behind it!" Distractedly, she brought the fruit to her mouth and paused from her story to take a bite. Her eyes lit up and she squeaked happily, taking a second bite and licking the extra juice. "You're right, this is really good!" She giggled, licking at the 'fur' and enjoying the feeling against her tongue.
She blinked and looked up as the other child asked her a question. "Hm? Oh. Yep, this place is home now," she said solemnly. "I use ta live in Avington, in a tall tree, where it was nice and pretty and my mom was there and..." She stopped, an odd look coming over her... something sad and regretful and...scared flashed through her eyes, before it vanished to be left with her childish solemnity again. "Well I dunno if I wanna be a noble...they seem like very grumpy people with lots of rules. Except maybe the Queen of the whole Suit, who can make all the rules." Then she took another bite of her peach.

As Mirriam spoke, Kaiesha listened, bright blue eyes bright. For a long time she was fascinated by the way the girl hung upside-down, but she'd read in a book once that most bats sat like that, so she supposed it made sense. She made the occasional chirp of agreement or understanding, but mainly let the bat speak as she listened and tore into her peach. They weren't something she ate too often, just because she worried about getting tired of them or something, but she did enjoy them from time to time and this one was perfectly delicious right now.
"From above?" she said as she swallowed the fruit that was in her mouth, considering this thoughtfully. Kaiesha had never seen a real waterfall, and so the mental image of one hung just outside of her grasp. "Wow... That sounds beautiful. And fun. Sometimes I go swimming, but then my feathers get all soppy and sometimes my da scolds me." she giggled quietly. Then, she nodded in reply, some part of her understanding the weight of Mirriam's words. After all, her own sister had lived here before, and now she called some other place home... Thinking of her sister, she felt sorrow. She wished Aliyah could be here now, meeting her new friend too...
She quickly shook aside the sadness, instead noting the rather abrupt change in Mirriam's tone and the change of subject. It seemed rather... strange, in a way, but she didn't press the matter. That, she knew, would be rude.
"Yup, like my grampapa. Well, my parents are both really nice and not that stuffy, they always make kissy-eyes at each other when they think no one's looking." she stuck her tongue out, but couldn't keep from giggling softly. "Well, even if you aren't a noble, it's really nice here. There are lots of people to watch and books to read, even some with pictures! But really.. I don't know if I wanna stay here my whole life. I went to the Capital once and saw dancers there... I'd like to be a dancer and go across all the Realms."

Mirriam nodded, munching more sweet, juicy peach, not caring if her muzzle was getting sticky. She smiled, showing pointed teeth. "Yeah, swimming is hard with wings...I've tried it, but it never works out so well. At least you have front legs!" She glanced at the afore-mentioned scaled bird feet, then brought her bright gaze back to meet her friend's, curious as always.
"Well, das good then," the bat said, giggling a bit too even though she wasn't sure what 'kissy eyes' were. Didn't kisses only involve mouths or tongues usually? At least, they had whenever her Mommy had given her one. How did you kiss with your eyes? But she knew better than to ask...those were usually the sorts of questions she got told she was too young to know the answers too. And that was a very frustrating thing to be told for the eager child. "Oh good! I like books, especially the ones about adventures and princesses and wizards and dragons and superheroes! One time I read a book where--oh, a dancer? How pretty!" Mirriam's eyes shone with wonder and envy. The Capital must be such an interesting place...she'd heard rumors but had never visited. Her eyes widened even more. "You mean you're going to visit everywhere? That's amazing! It sounds like a lot of fun. I want to visit all the Realms too, but dancing is hard." She shot a gloomy look down at her claws, which were perfect for gripping branches, rocks, and other perches, but not so much for dancing.

"Routine, yes... I'll have to see about establishing one. I really haven't the faintest idea what children need in their daily structure, but I'm sure that advice will be forthcoming from various individuals, yourself included." Khushrenada's smile was charming around his curved beak. Yes, he would be utilizing this woman's knowledge, otherwise he might irreparably damage the child without realizing he'd done it or knowing how to fix it. That would be absolutely unacceptable.
The politely intrusive lead-in question gave him pause and he took a sip of his drink before answering. "I have, some years ago. I used to be a King to Her Majesty Cerevanna and serve in the Court's military. I held a very respectable rank before unusual circumstances called me away for... quite some time. I only recently freed myself from the personal entanglement and was able to return to the palace. I apologize. It is a moderately sensitive subject." And one that he didn't particularly want people poking around in. Not that they would find much. He still barely believed the whole series of circumstances himself.

((*headtilt* Do you guys want to continue this one, or has it been long enough muse-wise for it to expire? I might have trouble dredging Khushrenada to this particular point in time...))
