Felix's eyes tried to follow Horatio, but gave up when the effort made him dizzy and flipped to his back again to float, closing his eyes and sighing lightly in a contented sort of way. The water did feel nice, as much as it was annoying to try and get his quills into some semblance of order afterwards. He opened one eye when the penguin seemed to have stopped circling like a hungry shark, and immadiately his face lit up at the suggestion.
"Oh, of course not, that'd be awesome! It'll be great to have more people there." Too often many of the lazy didn't want to come because it was too much energy, and many of the non-lazy ones were too busy -ughshudder- working to come partake of the nightlife and fun. Not to say there weren't a decent amount of folks there, but not nearly as many as could be there.
"Aw, really? That kinda sucks...no wonder your peeps write such depressing stuff," he said in what was obviously intended to be a sympathetic tone, but Felix had never really been the comforting type.

That was pretty awesome. He could party crash at his own pace. Maybe this place wouldn't be all that bad if he ever decided to move to a region beyond his own. Though he was going to stick to renting an apartment in the city until he found a proper job. "Well I'll put on my Sunday best and crash the dance party!" Of course, he didn't have any clothing and his definition of Sunday best was a bow tie.
He couldn't help but snort at the sympathetic comment. He would have burst into a fit of laughter, but he didn't feel like sinking again. "I think people are depressed because of the curse. Personally I don't think it's all that depressing. Though I do respect it of course. I imagine things would be different if the ball and chain I wore wouldn't let me swim. But if that was the case I would be dead and wouldn't have to worry about anything." He gave a little shrug as came to a complete stop, paddling his feet. "But I think a more cheery subject would be best. When exactly do the competitions start?"

Felix grinned. "All right, man! Sounds like a plan." He wondered what the penguin was going to be wearing...not exactly catching on to the fact that he wasn't being literal. Himself, he prefered to go just as he was. Then again, most of those with animal forms did just that. Besides, why cover any of his natural good looks up with...well, anything? And wearing clothing with quills was really more trouble than it was worth.
"Ah, right, the curse. Well a lot of the songs talk about the curse," Felix commented, "As well as death and stuff like that." His eyes widened a bit with a serious expression as Horatio requested a change of subject. "Oh, sorry man! Didn't mean to get all depressing and stuff," he laughed a bit. "It starts at 7 and ends whenever most of the participants pass out." It was hard to tell if he was being completely serious or not, though given that it apparently took place at a club, it wasn't likely to be too far from the truth. "Speaking of, I should really get to drying off...time is of the essence." Turning, his eyes narrowed in concentration and he began splashing toward shore.

Death and stuff? Most Torquehelm residents were pretty depressing. He refrained from rolling his eyes at it all. What was the point of being depressed because you were cursed? You could live your life to the fullest cursed or otherwise. He had to admit he was lucky but...
The change of subject was welcome. Seven o' clock was still a while away. At least, he figured it was. It wasn't like he could find a waterproof watch to swim with. The penguin was a little confused by the passing out comment. Would people actually pass out at the place? He couldn't tell when Felix was being serious or not.
"All right," Horatio said, "You can--" He was promptly splashed by the Lakelander as he swam to the shore. The penguin spit out what water had found its way into his mouth and grinned. "I'll stay out here a bit longer."

"Ten-four, man!" the porcupine called over his shoulder, yelled really, to be heard above the splashing he was making with every sloppy stroke. Unfortunately talking while swimming was a bit too coordinated for him and he, too, ended up with a mouthful of water, so he sputtered and choked and paddled desperately for the shore, which seemed to finally be getting closer...closer...!
With a dramatic gasp, Felix flopped out onto the sandy edge of the lake, digging his claws into the ground to pull himself a little farther out, until only his long spiky tail remained in the water. Then he lay there, spread eagled, panting, on his stomach. He let out a low, long sigh. Fun, if exhausting. And now, he could lay here, basking in the warm sun. Ahh...he smiled, closing his eyes. He was so happy. It had been a great afternoon, he'd made a new friend, and best of all said friend was going to come to the dance off tonight at the club! Life was good. He shook the water off his quills and zoned out contentedly.

It was quite the scene. Horatio couldn't help but chuckle to himself as he watched the porcupine swim to shore and then promptly flop on the shore line to get dry. Felix was quite the comedian even if he was unaware of the fact.
The penguin took his sweet time, and had no intention of getting out of the water until he absolutely had to. He was more home here than anywhere, and he was going to savor the feeling.
He really wished more people enjoyed the water. At least Felix had enjoyed it when he decided to throw caution to the wind. Horatio couldn't help but feel accomplished over that. He hoped that this wouldn't be the only time the porcupine swam with him but that was something to be left to the future.
It was twenty or so minutes before Horatio decided to come out of the water.

The wait didn't bother Felix in the least. He was used to just...taking his time with things, and thought that an afternoon lazing around doing nothing was time well spent. Patience was really almost a serendipitous side effect of being so lazy. The only movement he made in the extra time the penguin spent paddling around was to pull himself a little further up onto the shore and flop over onto his back, shifting until his quills were comfortably resting in the sand. He soaked up sun and dozed off a bit, scratching idly at his side from time to time -- the one bad thing about sand, it could get itchy when it got in his fur -- and had probably nearly forgotten about his friend by the time the twenty minutes had passed.
He started up as he heard someone walking near him, and grinned instantly at the sight. "Horatio, good to see you! I trust you enjoyed your swimming in the lake?" He stood up, stretching cramped muscles and shaking a bit of sand out of his fur, quills making a curious clicking noise. He turned a bit to look at the sky, noting that the sun was slowly, very slowly, heading down towards the horizon. Everything was laid back in the Selkie Lakes. The porcupine zoned out for a moment as he admired the beauty and tranquility of his home.

Horatio waddled out of the water with a grin. "Oh yes, it was fantastic!" he said cheerfully as he waddled a bit away from the porcupine. The other Card was bone dry now, so he wasn't about to get him wet when he shook off the water what little water was still clinging to his feathers.
He shook very briefly, the water rolling off him. It was good being built for swimming. Though he wasn't particularly fond of the sand that was now clinging to his wet feet. Oh well, you couldn't have everything when it came down to it.
He glanced over at the Lakelander, who was looking up at the sky. Horatio took note of it--it was much prettier than anything in Torquehelm. His home was always a dreary sort of dark, but this was quite a beautiful sight. He made an appreciative sound as he watched for a minute or so.
"Ah, wait, are we going to be late to your Dance contest?"

It always made Felix feel...good when people appreciated his homeland, especially the little stretch of it that he and his family had lived in his whole life. He couldn't explain the feeling...perhaps it was something like homeland pride, though when he thought of that it put him in mind of snooty Highlanders, and this wasn't like that. It wasn't about being -better- than the other Realms, it was about being able to share the beauty that he'd always loved. So he was perfectly content to enjoy the way the sunset looked for a few minutes. In fact, he would watch the sunset fairly often. His lakeside house had a lovely view, and he was never up early enough to see the sunrise (at least, not by choice) and it was a sight he didn't think he could ever get tired of.
He turned, horned head tilting a bit, when Horatio spoke up. "Hm? Ah, no, we'll be on time. It's not a strict sort of thing, anyway. Seven o'clock...Five minutes after seven...seven thirty...same difference," he replied with a laugh, shrugging a bit. "Still, perhaps we should make our way in that direction." With a smile and a gesture to follow, Felix began lumbering in a slow but steady gait down a small path that led around the lake and away from the comfortable looking house behind them.
"Don't worry, it's not too bad a walk," he called back, checking to make sure Horatio was following. And if Felix didn't think it was bad, surely that meant it truly was easy, considering how little the porcupine liked exerting too much energy. Most of the walk, in fact, took them along the edge of the lake, though the club itself was actually out on a dock a short distance into the water. Sometimes customers came by boat.

Right. Everything was easy going here. The penguin gave a small sigh of relief at the thought of not being late. From the sound of it it was impossible to be late in such a place.
Walking. Ah. He wasn't very graceful when he walked around. Not like his grace in the water. Perhaps that was one of the reasons why he was so fond of staying near the stuff. Either way he gave a small nod and followed the porcupine.
He was happy the walk was slow. It made things easier on him. His ball dragged across the ground with very little protest. When he spotted the club his eyes lit up. It was so close to the water! And it looked like an interesting place!
It really was a shame he couldn't dance. He shrugged it off. At least he could have a great time watching.
